UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic is looking to make his second consecutive title defense when he takes on Junior dos Santos in the main event of UFC 211 this May.

The pair previously met in the main event of UFC on FOX 13 back in December of 2014, in which ‘JDS’ took home a unanimous decision win in one of the best heavyweight fights in UFC history. That bout was the last contest Miocic ever lost inside the Octagon, as he has since embarked on a four-fight knockout streak.

Miocic recently spoke to FOX Sports ahead of his rematch with dos Santos and was made aware of the statistical proof that has shown past heavyweight champions struggle to defend the title more than two times. The Croatian champ says there’s one thing that separates him from the rest of the UFC’s champions, past and present, and that is that he wants it more:

“I want it more. Plain and simple,” Miocic said. “I worked so hard to get that [title]. I put so much sacrifice and my coaches put so much sacrifice, you put so much sacrifice into family and I’ve just worked way too hard to give it up. Screw that.”

Recently UFC President Dana White referred to up-and-coming heavyweight prospect Francis N’gannou as a ‘future heavyweight champion’ who he believes could hold the strap for a very long time. The comments came as a slight to Miocic, however, he isn’t a stranger to being doubted throughout his mixed martial arts (MMA) career:

“Listen, I understand it’s promotion but no one ever gave me a chance. No one ever thought I’d be the champ and look where I’m at now. I’ll keep shutting people up and that’s what I love doing,” Miocic said.

“I love it. I strive off it. I get high off of it. I want you to tell me how bad I suck and how I’m going to get knocked out and how I’ve been lucky my whole career. That’s fine. All day. I’ll take it and I’ll keep shutting you up and pissing you off and then onto the next.”

With a murderer’s row of contenders such as Fabricio Werdum, Cain Velasquez, Francis N’gannou, Derrick Lewis, and many more waiting for their respective shots at the heavyweight title, Miocic has some bad news for them in their quest for the moniker ‘Baddest Man On The Planet’:

“I’m hungrier than all of them,” Miocic said. “They didn’t put in the effort that I did to get the title. So I don’t care what it takes, I’m not giving up that title. I worked too hard to get it and I’m not going to lose it.”

Do you think Miocic will be the first UFC heavyweight champ to retain the title more than three times?

Reigning UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk has her next fight set, as sport.pl has reported that she will defend her title against Jessica Andrade in the co-main event of UFC 211 on May 13, 2017 in Dallas, Texas.

“Joanna Champion” is undefeated as a professional, while also boasting a perfect 7-0 UFC record. The Polish Striker has defended her 115-pound title four consecutive times, most recently edging out Karolina Kowalkiewicz in a back-and-forth five-round war at this past November’s UFC 205 from Madison Square Garden in New York.

Andrade, on the other hand, is currently ranked No. 4 in the strawweight rankings, as she possesses a 7-3 Octagon record. She is currently riding a three-fight win streak that includes victories over former title challenger Jessica Penne, Joanne Calderwood and Angela Hill. Two of those victories also came by way of stoppage.

UFC 211 is set to be headlined by a heavyweight title rematch between champion Stipe Miocic and former titleholder Junior Dos Santos.

Alistair Overeem is throwing his support behind Junior dos Santos at UFC 211.

‘The Reem’ and ‘JDS’ previously met at UFC on FOX 17 in December of 2015, where Overeem won the contest via second round knockout. The Dutchman then went on to muster up a four-fight win streak before having it snapped by heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic in the first round of their title bout this past September.

Overeem is looking to get back in the win column when he takes on Mark Hunt at UFC 209 live on pay-per-view (PPV). Dos Santos on the other hand has a title bout of his own to look forward to against Miocic, as he will challenge for the title at UFC 211 this May. Overeem feels that if ‘JDS’ emerges victorious come fight night in Dallas, he’s first in line for a crack at the throne (quotes courtesy of MMA Mania):

“That would be very good for my title attempts if Junior would win,” Overeem said. “Because the rematch could be there. So I’m definitely rooting for Junior in this one, for a change.”

If Overeem does want next in the title picture, however, he has to get through ‘The Super Samoan’ first. The pair previously met under the Dream banner back in 2008. Overeem took home the win with a first round submission with an americana.

How do you see the rematch between Overeem and Hunt going down this time around?

This is shaping up to be one of the funniest rivalries ever…

Although they are yet to be scheduled to fight, Michael Bisping and Yoel Romero are sharing an intense feud. Since ‘Soldier of God’ knocked out Chris Weidman at UFC 205, the beef has been cooking with current champion ‘The Count.’ Directly after taking out the former champion, Romero called out the in-attendance Englishman. After undergoing successful knee surgery, Bisping has been railing the Cuban wrestler about his USADA drama. Responding in kind, ‘SoG’ took things to a new level this week.

Setting up a GoFundMe page for Bipsing’s ‘retirement expenses,’ Romero showed he has some serious banter. Expecting to face ‘The Count’ on the May 13 UFC 211 card, ‘Soldier of God’ is getting his digs in early.

Radio Show Argument

During Bisping’s segment on ‘The Countdown,’ another heated exchange started on Twitter. Claiming it was not Romero in control of his social media, Bisping threw out some insults that spurred his rival to phone in. Obviously, this led to some comedy gold. Here’s the Twitter banter, followed by Romero and Bisping’s hilarious argument on Sirius XM:

There’s More

Keeping in line with the current stream of bowel movement news, Bisping points out a rather gross moment from Romero’s past. Under the new set of proposed rules, Romero would’ve actually suffered a TKO loss during this obscene moment. Garnering him the nickname ‘poopy pants’ from Bisping, Romero’s unfortunate mid-combat release is not forgotten.

This Rivalry Has It All

Once they finally meet in the octagon, there’s going to be a rich rivalry to settle between Bisping and Romero. Having already overcome the odds against Anderson Silva and Luke Rockhold, can the long serving Brit take out the explosive ‘Soldier of God?’

Only time will tell.
