Newly crowned UFC interim welterweight champion Colby Covington is riding high.

The top contender is coming off the biggest fight thus far in his pro-MMA career.

As seen in the co-main event of the main card for Saturday’s (June 9, 2018) UFC 225 pay-per-view event at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, Covington was able to score a decision win over former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos to win the interim welterweight title.

If you recall, the original plan was for them to fight at the UFC 224 pay-per-view event Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. However, those plans got scrapped.

This leads us to former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping. Covington made an appearance on the UFC 225 post-fight show on FOX Sports 1 after the event where he spoke with Karyn Bryant, Kenny Florian, Michelle Waterson, and Bisping.

This led to a heated exchange between Bisping and Covington. It all started once Covington started out the interview by addressing the studio panel as “his haters” and saying the foursome was about to “make excuses” for his decision win over RDA.

He then went after Bisping’s coach Jason Parillo, who also coached dos Anjos for UFC 225. Thus, this led to Bisping not being very happy about it.

As a result of this big win and winning the interim welterweight title belt, Covington is slated to take on UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley at a date that has yet to be officially announced.

Both fighters have expressed interest in fighting at the upcoming UFC 227 pay-per-view event on Saturday, August 4, 2018, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. However, the UFC has yet to officially announce the bout.

UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley has given his take on Colby Covington’s big win.

Following the fight, Woodley took to his official Twitter account to give his take on the bout and fighting Covington next. He wrote the following on his official Twitter account:

“Get this bitch ready! @ufc @danawhite hit my line now! Bitch Please! I let you bump your gums. Now you got smoke! I’m exposing you. You were and always will be my warm-up round!”

Woodley suffered a partial labrum tear early in his recent title defense over Demian Maia, which he won by decision. Woodley has been a fighting champion as he has defended it twice in 2017 with winning decisions over Stephen Thompson and Maia.

This tied with three other fighters for the most active 2017 schedule by a UFC champion.

Although the promotion has yet to officially announce when this fight between Woodley and Covington would go down, Woodley has gone on record in the past by stating that he wants to return to the Octagon under the UFC banner in August at the upcoming UFC 227 pay-per-view event.

This show is set to take place on Saturday, August 4, 2018, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

The main card will air on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET while the preliminary card will air on FOX Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass.

This event will be headlined by a bantamweight title fight pitting champion TJ Dillashaw against Cody Garbrandt in a rematch.

CM Punk Breaks Silence On UFC 225 Loss

CM Punk has broken his silence on his big loss.

CM Punk has broken his silence on his big loss at the UFC 225 pay-per-view event.

He lost in his MMA debut against Mickey Gall at UFC 203 in September of 2016 by first round submission.

Despite not having a ton of experience, UFC President Dana White gave the former WWE champion another shot at fighting inside of the Octagon.

As seen in the opening bout of the main card for Saturday’s (June 9, 2018) UFC 225 pay-per-view event at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, fellow welterweight Mike Jackson was able to beat Punk, real name Phil Brooks, by unanimous decision.

Jackson dominated the fight and Punk showed a ton of heart but was winded after the first round.

Punk did not do a post-fight interview or make an appearance at the post-fight press conference to speak with the media.

Instead, he waited until after the event went off the air and broke his silence in a message posted on his official Twitter account. He wrote the following:

“You win some, you lose some! I’m 1-1 this week and I’ll take it! Thanks to my team, my family, my friends, and THE FANS! Wouldn’t be here without any of you. Respect to @TheTruthJackson, thanks for the fight! You only live once, and… I’M ALIVE!”

Following the fight, White gave his take on the bout during an interview with Megan Olivi on the post-fight show on FOX Sports 1.

White went on record by stating that he believes Punk should wrap it up and call it a career. For more on that and more, click here.

Dana White Thinks CM Punk Should Retire

Dana White said the CM Punk experiment is over:

WWE champion CM Punk returned to the octagon for his second fight against Mike Jackson at last night’s (Sat., June 9, 2018) UFC 225 from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, losing a one-sided laugher of a fight that was wholly panned by the MMA world.

There was little doubt that Punk showed heart and toughness in doing something few could, yet he failed to mount any form of offense outside of a short-lived takedown in the first, putting his fighting future in serious question.

But the question was soon answered when UFC President Dana White addressed it during an interview with Megan Olivi on the post-fight show on FOX Sports 1. White believes that even though Punk has shown a ton of toughness, it’s time for him to stop fighting in the octagon:

“Did he retire back here, backstage with you? Yeah, I think that’s probably a wrap for CM Punk. I think he should do it for himself. He’s 39 years old, the guy’s got a lot of guts, he came out here and tried it twice. He earned the respect of his team and a lot of other people. You know, he looked tough tonight.”

While he may have been impressed with Punk’s effort despite him not winning his two UFC fights, White wasn’t impressed by Jackson’s effort after he showboated in a bout he was dominating. In his mind, Jackson should have finished the fight rather than clowned Punk:

“Michael Jackson, I was not impressed with. You know, that guy was out there goofing around, throwing like bolo punches from the top. If you could have finished that fight, you should have finished that fight. I probably shoulda put that on the Fight Pass prelims in hindsight.”

The UFC closed on the topic by reiterating that it was time for CM Punk to hang up his gloves:

“But yeah, I think CM Punk should probably hang it up, he, uh, it’s time.”
