Highlights: Jessica Andrade Sleeps Karolina Kowalkiewicz With One Punch

You don’t see that in the strawweight division every day.

In last night’s (Sat. September 8, 2018) UFC 228 co-main event, Jessica Andrade made a statement.

The Brazilian came into her fight against Karolina Kowalkiewicz on a two-fight win streak. Andrade had two dominant decision wins over Tecia Torres and Claudia Gadelha. A big win over Kowalkiewicz would likely get her the next nod at the 115-pound title.

Kowalkiewicz also hoped to solidify herself as the next strawweight title challenger. She racked up back-to-back wins as well over the likes of Jodie Esquibel and Felice Herrig. Unfortunately, her win streak was cut short by Andrade.

Right out the gate, Andrade stung Kowalkiewicz with her power. Eventually, Andrade wore down Kowalkiewicz’s chin enough that one solid hook to the jaw was able to shut her lights out.

It is one of the scariest one-punch knockouts (and maybe the only) in UFC women’s strawweight history. Check it out here:

Last night (Sat. September 8, 2018) Dallas, Texas played host to the UFC 228 pay-per-view (PPV).

In the main event, Tyron Woodley defeated Darren Till to retain his welterweight championship. Woodley hit Till with a bomb in the second round that planted him down.

After swarming on for ground-and-pound, several minutes later Woodley locked in a D’arce choke and forced the Englishman to tap out.

Woodley was awarded his black belt in jiu-jitsu by his coaches afterward. The mixed martial arts (MMA) world wasn’t surprised by Woodley’s victory, but how he pulled off the win was a bit unexpected.

Tonight’s (Sat., September 8, 2018) UFC 228 from the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, is in the books, and the card delivered a night full of hard-hitting finishes from the top down.

In the main event, welterweight champion Tyron Woodley picked up by far his most impressive defense by submitting formerly surging contender Darren Till following a brutal second-round onslaught.

Nicco Montano was set to defend her women’s flyweight title for the first time against Valentina Shevchenko, but the bout was called when the champion was rushed to the hospital Friday. In its place was a women’s strawweight bout between Karolina Kowalkiewicz and Jessica Andrade, which Andrade won with a brutal right hand of a knockout.

In other highlights, several rising stars put on impressive performances to make a name for themselves, with Zabit Magomedsharipov, Abdul Razak Alhassan, Aljamain Sterling, Geoff Neal, Darren Stewart, and Jim Miller all securing massive stoppages in legitimately one of the most exciting UFC cards in recent memory.

There’s a lot to digest from Dallas, so join LowKickMMA.com for the post-fight press conference streaming live right after the main card:
