The UFC continues to stack the upcoming card for the UFC 230 pay-per-view event as it’s being reported by Brett Okamoto of ESPN.com that the promotion is targeting Derek Brunson vs. Israel Adesanya in a middleweight bout for this card.

Brunson (18-6) has his sights set on the UFC middleweight strap as he has already verbally accepted the date for this fight to happen as he is coming off a loss to Ronaldo Souza in January that snapped a two fight winning streak when he picked up wins over Dan Kelley and Lyoto Machida.

On the flip side, Adesanya (14-0) signed with the UFC this year and is 3-0 in the Octagon where he has made his name known as a rising prospect in the division. He is coming off a decision win against Brad Tavares on July 6 in Las Vegas.

It should also be noted that the report states that Adesanya and the UFC are also close to finalizing a new deal as he has completed three bouts of a four-fight deal in the span of five months.

The UFC 230 pay-per-view event is set to take place on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan, New York City with the main card airing on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET while the preliminary card will air on FOX Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass.

The promotion will be announcing more bouts in the coming weeks but for now, here’s the updated card:

David Branch vs. Ronaldo Souza

Luke Rockhold vs. Chris Weidman

Paulo Costa vs. Yoel Romero

Yoel Romero Denies Accepting UFC 230 Fight With Paulo Costa

Yoel Romero’s team says pump the brakes on the Paulo Costa fight.

Earlier today, news arrived that a high-profile middleweight match-up between Yoel Romero and Paul Costa had been set for November 3’s UFC 230 from New York.

However, that booking appears to have been hastily announced, as multiple sources have confirmed to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani that Romero has not accepted a bout with Costa, or any fight for that matter.

“The Soldier of God” apparently had surgery on his orbital bone following his five-round war with Robert Whittaker at June’s UFC 225, his second loss to the current champion in less than a year. Due to the exhaustive nature of his recent schedule, which includes him missing weight before his last two bouts, Romero apparently isn’t in a hurry to get his next fight signed until he fully heals.

Costa has reportedly verbally agreed to the fight, but neither Romero or his management have signed any contract.

One of the fastest-rising fighters in the UFC, the surging Brazilian contender will have to wait to find out if he’ll meet Romero at UFC 230, a card that already features two massive middleweight bouts in Luke Rockhold vs. Chris Weidman and Jacare Souza vs. David Branch.

Yoel Romero vs. Paulo Costa Set For UFC 230

This is going to be an amazing contest.

A pivotal middleweight contest has been confirmed for UFC 230.

The pay-per-view (PPV) event will go down from Madison Square Garden on November 3rd in New York. The UFC’s Canadian Twitter page has announced that former middleweight title challenger Yoel Romero will take on rising 185-pound Brazilian star Paulo Costa:

Romero, 41-years-old, comes off three UFC middleweight championship opportunities. The first came in July of 2017 when he faced Robert Whittaker for the interim middleweight title. He lost that fight via unanimous decision. Seven months later “The Soldier Of God” met former 185-pound champion Luke Rockhold at UFC 221 for another interim middleweight title.

Unfortunately Romero failed to make weight for that contest and was ineligible to win the title with a victory. The Cuban powerhouse picked up a third round knockout victory in the fight. This past June Romero was granted another crack at Whittaker, this time with the undisputed middleweight crown on the line.

However, again Romero missed weight for the bout and the fight was declared a five round non-title middleweight bout instead. Romero dropped the contest via split decision to the Aussie champ.

There was talk of Romero possibly moving up to 205 pounds after his struggles to make weight in the middleweight division as of late, but it looks like he’ll remain at 185 pounds.

He’ll now take on a young-and-hungry rising challenger in the form of undefeated 27-year-old Costa. Four fights into his UFC career, Costa has displayed some amazing knockout power.

In November he knocked out former UFC welterweight champion Johny Hendricks in the second round of their UFC 217 meeting. Earlier this month (July 7, 2018) Costa finished former Ultimate Fighter runner-up Uriah Hall with another second round knockout. He’ll face the stiffest competition of his mixed martial arts (MMA) career against Romero in November.

Luke Rockhold vs. Chris Weidman II Reportedly Set For NYC

One of the middleweight division’s best rematches will reportedly happen this fall.

A high-profile rematch is nearly set for the UFC middleweight division.

ESPN’s Brett Okamoto reported today that sources have confirmed the UFC is close to finalizing a Luke Rockhold vs. Chris Weidman rematch for November 3’s UFC 230 from New York City, New York.

Both men are decorated former champions, with Weidman infamously ending Anderson Silva’s historic run as champion via shocking second-round knockout at 2013’s UFC 162. He defended the belt three times before losing the title to Rockhold in a brutal fourth-round stoppage at UFC 194 in December 2015.

Weidman has been out of action since an impressive submission victory over current title contender Kelvin Gastelum last July, a fight after which he experienced complications with hand surgery that have kept him sidelined ever since.

Rockhold was last seen losing to Yoel Romero via brutal knockout at February’s UFC 221. The former UFC and Strikeforce 185-pound champ teased a move up to light heavyweight in order to bypass the draining weight cut to 185 pounds but apparently reconsidered the move in order to take the Weidman rematch.

A main event has not been officially confirmed for UFC 230 as of now.
