It looks like Jeremy Stephens’ return to the Octagon will be against some stiff competition.

ESPN’s Ariel Helwani is reporting that a fight between Stephens and rising featherweight prospect Zabit Magomedsharipov is in the works. The fight is targeted for UFC 235 on pay-per-view (PPV), which takes place on March 2nd from Las Vegas:

“Zabit Magomedsharipov vs. Jeremy Stephens is in the works for UFC 235 on March 2 in Las Vegas, multiple sources told ESPN. The fight isn’t finalized just yet but moving in the right direction.”

Stephens comes off a disappointing defeat to former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo. After racking up a three-fight win streak, Aldo stopped Stephens in the first round back in July. Now, “Lil Heathen” is looking to get back in the win column. However, he’ll face a difficult challenge against a grappler in Zabit, who has proven extremely dominant on the mat.

He is undefeated in his UFC tenure at the moment. The Russian is on a 12-fight win streak and hasn’t lost since his sole defeat back in 2013. Zabit has been chasing a high-profile fight in the division for quite some time. He finally has it in a proven name like Stephens, whose knockout power can end a fight on the drop of a dime.

Contrary to what Dana White said last month, Nick Diaz says he has not accepted a fight at UFC 235 agaisnt Jorge Masvidal.

White told ESPN last month that Diaz had agreed to his first fight in four years against Masvidal at the upcoming UFC 235 PPV on March 2 in Las Vegas. However, Diaz has been radio silent since the news broke.

That is, until now.

“I think it’s rude of the UFC to try and lowball me and expect me to negotiate a deal while I’m training for a fight,” Diaz said. It’s not gonna go down like that. If anybody wants to fight me they know where to find me. I’m not a hard guy to find. Come get some.

“I have a lot going on trying to manage a few different businesses. Once things make sense for everybody in that they actually have some fighters that they respect and I respect, we can try and come to a deal and do a show. That’s how I feel.”

The 35-year-old Stockton, California native last faced Andrson Silva at UFC 183. Despite the long layoff Diaz has not ruled out a comeback.

“As soon as I am in a good place with what I’m working on and things look the way it should, I’ll be happy to give the fans what they need. But I think they will be OK for now with what’s out there. There aren’t any fights for me until someone stands out.

“I’ll fight if they can be more reasonable, but, really, I didn’t even talk about what it would or could [take]. They are the one’s tripping.”

Nick Diaz’s UFC return has been confirmed by UFC President Dana White when asked about it at the UFC 231 post-fight press conference. Just last month it was reported that Diaz would fight Jorge Masvidal at the upcoming UFC 231 pay-per-view event. White made it known that this is the fight that they have made.

He also wondered as to why it has yet to be officially announced by the UFC as that is a big fight. This is due to the fact that Diaz is one of the biggest stars that the promotion has right now.

Masvidal has been out of action since he lost a unanimous decision to Stephen Thompson at UFC 21. He has lost his last two fights in the Octagon after having a three-fight win streak.

Diaz has not been seen in the Octagon since his bout with Anderson Silva in January 2015. This fight was later overturned to a no-contest after Silva tested positive for banned substances.

“As far as I know sitting right here right now, that fight’s on. As far as I know, that fight is on, White stated. “Unless something happened since Tuesday, which is very possible, it’s on.”

The UFC 235 pay-per-view event is set to take place on Saturday, March 2, 2019 in at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main card will air on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET. The preliminary card will air on ESPN at 8 p.m. ET and the TV network’s streaming service, ESPN +.

Quote: Nick Diaz Is The ‘Greatest Fighter Of All Time’

It looks like someone within the mixed martial arts (MMA) community believes that UFC veteran Nick Diaz is the ‘greatest fighter of all time.’

Nick Diaz is rumored to make his highly-anticipated return to the UFC’s Octagon next year.

Diaz hasn’t fought since January of 2015 when he suffered a unanimous decision loss to Anderson Silva. However, after Silva tested positive for a banned substance, the fight was overturned to a no contest. The 35-year-old is expected to return to fighting at UFC 235 action on March 2, 2019. He’ll face Jorge Masvidal in a very interesting welterweight match-up.

Its been over seven years since Diaz has won a professional mixed martial arts (MMA) contest. His last win came via unanimous decision over UFC Hall Of Famer BJ Penn in October of 2011. However, Diaz then had an 11-fight win streak snapped by Carlos Condit via unanimous decision back at UFC 143 in February of 2012 for the interim 170-pound title. He’d then lose a welterweight title opportunity to Georges St-Pierre the following year.

The Greatest?

After years of issues trying to get both the Diaz brothers back into the Octagon, it looks like Nick Diaz’s return is closer than ever to being made official. Recently, Diaz’s roommate and training partner, A.J. Agazarm – who recently inked a deal with Bellator MMA – joined “Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show.”

During the interview, Agazarm made a rather bold claim about Diaz. He called the Stockton native the “greatest fighter of all time” (via MMA Mania):

“He is the greatest fighter of all time – he really is. Every fighter aspires to be like Nick Diaz. Just having been around him for the time that I’ve been and understanding his psyche and the way he operates,” Agazarm said.

“He is very efficient and effective in every single thing he does. Not just fighting. He’s got his daily routine. I know what it looks like on social media because I am with him every day.”
