UFC 239 just got that much better with a bantamweight bout between Sean O’Malley and Marlon Vera.

The news was first reported by ESPN’s Ariel Helwani via Twitter:

UFC 239, which takes place on July 6, will be the culmination of International Fight Week.

O’Malley recently tweeted regarding his USADA imposed suspension coming to an end. He stated that his suspension would be ending on July 6. Coincidentally UFC 239 falls on that date.

Vera has won three straight fights. He defeated Frankie Saenz in March on ESPN+. “Chito” has been in the UFC since 2014 and he has been in the Octagon with some of the very best the division offers.

It’s unclear at this time where this fight will take place on the card. UFC 239 will be headlined by Jon Jones defending his light heavyweight title against Thiago Santos.

Ben Askren will face Jorge Masvidal at July’s jam-packed UFC 239.

Most fans assumed “Gamebred” would be locked inside the cage against Leon Edwards. The pair engaged in a backstage brawl at UFC London last month. Instead, Askren has been paired with Masvidal, while Edwards remains without an opponent.

Speaking at today’s (Fri. April 12, 2019) UFC Seasonal Press Conference, Askren said he also expected Masvidal to be paired up with Edwdards. But when they share the cage on July 9, he wants more than Masvidal’s signature “three piece and soda” (via MMA Fighting):

“I definitely thought that,” Askren said. “I thought Leon was getting the fight for sure. Besides that, Jorge was making excuses that whole week about why he didn’t want to fight me. He wouldn’t say my name, it’s a little thing that he does.

“And Jorge needs to know that I don’t get full on a three piece and soda. He better bring the whole damn family meal for that night.”

Masvidal was unable to make the press conference today, but that didn’t stop he and Askren from insulting each other on social media:
