It’s happening. Kamaru Usman’s first UFC welterweight title defense will indeed be against Colby Covington at UFC 245.

The action goes down from the T-Mobile Arena on December 14 in Las Vegas, Nevada. LowKickMMA has confirmed an initial report by ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, who broke the news on Twitter. Usman vs. Covington will be the third title fight on the card.

It initially looked like Usman vs. Covington wasn’t going to happen after negotiations broke down earlier this month. However, now the date is set for later this year. Usman is currently on a 14-fight win streak at the moment, last beating Tyron Woodley to capture the 170-pound title earlier this year. “The Nigerian Nightmare” has proven to be a dominant wrestler, who is also a danger on the feet with his power.

As for Covington, he is on a seven-fight win streak since suffering his first and only professional MMA loss back in 2015 to Warlley Alves via submission. “Chaos” holds wins over Demian Maia, Rafael dos Anjos, and Robbie Lawler. He was briefly the interim welterweight champion of the world before being stripped due to inactivity.

Now, the personal beef and title picture will be settled at UFC 245 in December, as Covington and Usman finally lock horns.

Who are you picking in the Usman vs. Covington title fight at UFC 245?

Alexander Volkanovski is extremely confident heading into his fight with Max Holloway at UFC 245 for the featherweight title.

Volkanovski has openly stated he’s looking past Holloway, as he fully expects to beat the Hawaiian, but will grant “Blessed” an immediate rematch when it’s all said and done. Volkanovski doubled down in an interview with Submission Radio, saying he believes he’s “too much” for Holloway to handle inside the Octagon.

“For Max, I know this might sound disrespectful, it’s not. I don’t think he gives me crazy problems that I have to worry about. He’s still… just purely the fact that he is very good, I give him that. He is very technical and there are things I need to worry about, but when it comes to power, knockout power – obviously his cardio, you know, the cardio’s a big factor for most people in fights, but for me it’s nothing that I need to worry about.

“And just striking and the fact that he’s a volume puncher and stuff like that, I don’t believe that’s a big threat to me. If he wants to punch in volumes, I’m gonna be there swinging back and swinging back heavy. And then I got my shots there, you know what I mean? So, I really do think this is going to be my fight and I’m gonna be pretty comfortable in there.

“I just gotta make sure that I’m prepared, prepared for the worst. I’m gonna be prepared that we’re going for a five-round war. And he’s obviously tough, he’s got a good chin, but I reckon I’m stopping him.”

UFC 245 goes down from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on December 14. Volkanovski is currently on a 17-fight win streak. He has looked impressive in his UFC run thus far; racking up wins over Darren Elkins, Chad Mendes, and Jose Aldo. He’ll take on, arguably, the best featherweight of all time in Holloway, who is on a 14-fight win streak at 145 pounds.

Volkanovski is likely the most well-rounded young fighter Holloway has ever faced. It will be interesting to see how the stylistic matchup plays out inside the Octagon.

Do you think Volkanovski will be too much for Holloway inside the Octagon?

It looks like a fight between Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington might happen after all.

According to a report from ESPN’s Ariel Helwani on “The MMA Reporters” podcast (via Aaron Bronsteter), the UFC is closing in on booking Usman vs. Covington for UFC 245 this December. The bout would end up being the third title fight on the card.

Other title fights on UFC 245 currently include a women’s bantamweight bout between Amanda Nunes and Germaine de Randamie, and a featherweight title fight between Max Holloway and Alexander Volkanovski. UFC 245 goes down from the T-Mobile Arena on December 14, 2019, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Kamaru Usman is currently on a 14-fight win streak, not having lost since his first and only mixed martial arts (MMA) defeat back in 2013 before he entered the UFC. In his last outing, “The Nigerian Nightmare” bested Tyron Woodley over the course of five rounds to capture the 170-pound championship via unanimous decision.

As for Covington, he also only has one loss on his record, a first-round submission defeat to Warlley Alves in 2015. Since then, he has embarked on a seven-fight win streak that includes victories over Demian Maia, Rafael dos Anjos, and Robbie Lawler. Covington is also a former interim welterweight champion.

Now, hopefully the UFC can put together a title bout between both Covington and Usman, so the pair can settle their issues once and for all.

Do you think Usman vs. Covington will get done for UFC 245?
