Costa Adesanya

Israel Adesanya was offered a fight with Paulo Costa as early as UFC 251 this weekend — only for him to turn it down according to manager Wallid Ismail.

Adesanya has been expected to defend his middleweight title against Costa for months but there is yet to be any movement on that front.

There was recent talk of them coaching on the return of The Ultimate Fighter leading up a title fight before it was denied by Adesanya’s coach Eugene Bareman, who claimed nothing regarding Adesanya and Costa fighting at all was presented his way.

Ismail: Costa Fight Was Offered For UFC 251

But according to Costa’s manager Ismail, that is a lie.

“His coach lied,” Ismail told MMA Fighting. “He has to understand that when he says something in Australia we can see it right away in Brazil through the internet. He can’t lie. There was an offer for July 11, and then they said August, and now they are talking September or October.”

Costa would confirm the same in a recent Instagram post.

As for The Ultimate Fighter, Costa’s team was campaigning to coach on “TUF” and according to Ismail, Dana White loved the idea as well.

While there is no update on that front, Ismail believes having Costa and Adesanya on the returning edition before facing each other for the title will only lead to ratings.

“It would be huge,” Ismail said. “Everybody loves watching two guys that hate each other. When was the last time you saw two undefeated guys fighting for the belt? It’s going to be incredible.”

When it comes down to a potential fight between Adesanya and Costa, there are also complications as the latter trains in Brazil and won’t be able to compete in the United States at least when the UFC returns there in August amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

For now, Ismail can only hope “The Last Stylebender” accepts a fight sooner rather than later.

“Don’t run away from this fight please,” Ismail added. “His coach is trying to act like a manager now and that’s how careers end. We’re hoping to have a date some time this year, and I just hope they stop crying. Adesanya is crying. He can’t say anything online until he actually signs the deal. If you’re offered a fight and don’t take it, you can’t say anything.”

Do you think we’ll see the fight this year?

The new UFC 4 video game cover has been allegedly leaked.

UFC 4 is the latest installment by EA Sports which was set to be revealed during the UFC 251 pay-per-view event taking place this Saturday in Abu Dhabi.

Much debate has been going on as to who will star on the cover this time. Manager Ali Abdelaziz recently hinted that it was Israel Adesanya and Jorge Masvidal as he felt lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov should have been on the cover.

Masvidal, Adesanya Star In UFC 4 Cover?

It turns out he was right as the Microsoft store seems to have leaked the UFC 4 cover a bit early.

You can see it below:

While this is not 100 percent confirmed, it certainly looks to be the real deal.

Nurmagomedov or another fighter could still yet be on the cover, albeit on a different and premium version of the game as was the case with UFC 3.

With Masvidal competing in the UFC 251 headliner against Kamaru Usman and Adesanya set to defend his 185-pound strap against Paulo Costa, they will certainly be hoping the UFC cover curse doesn’t strike again.

What do you think of the cover? And do you think another fighter such as Nurmagomedov should have been on it?

Jorge Masvidal expects to win the welterweight title this weekend — and he’s already looking ahead to future opponents.

Masvidal is stepping in on six days notice to challenge Kamaru Usman for the welterweight title in the UFC 251 headliner on July 11 at Abu Dhabi’s Fight Island.

It will be a first shot at UFC gold for “Gamebred” who remains confident of getting the victory over his bitter rival in Usman despite not having a proper training camp. If that is what actually happens, what would be next for Masvidal?

Masvidal Targeting Rematches

There are two opponents in mind for the BMF champion and they don’t include Conor McGregor or even Colby Covington. Instead, they are rematches with past opponents.

“There is two guys on my radar heavy,” Masvidal told Ariel Helwani (via MMA News). “Nate is definitely one of them. No matter what, it is a good fight, and me and the world didn’t get the results we wanted. I know Nate obviously wants to run it back and, I’m telling speaking from heart, I want to run it back. When I get this belt, nothing would be better, then to give him the opportunity he gave me to fight for his BMF belt. Come on, come fight for this belt now.

“Another dude that we’re definitely going to be scrapping at some point is [Stephen] Thompson. Not because of nothing personal, got nothing but love and respect for this individual, I would just love to run it back. I think I could do better than I did the first night we met, I think I match up well. I would love to run it back with Thompson. So, that is definitely something that will be happening. Promises made, promises kept.”

Masvidal, of course, defeated Diaz after dominating their UFC 244 contest back in November. However, it was via doctor’s stoppage due to a cut on Diaz’s eye.

As for Thompson, “Wonderboy” was the last fighter to defeat Masvidal when he outpointed him at UFC 217 in November 2017.

Either one of those rematches would not disappoint fans whatsoever.

Who would you like to see Masvidal face after Usman should he win the title?
