UFC bantamweight champion Petr Yan revealed what led to his title fight with Aljamain Sterling being postponed.

Yan was originally set to defend his title for the first time against Sterling in the UFC 256 headliner on December 12. However, it was recently reported that the fight was off and would take place at a later date. It wasn’t reported to be an injury for Yan either which led many to wonder what led to the postponement.

According to Yan, it was visa issues.

Speaking to fans on Instagram Live on Monday (via RT), the Siberian-Russian revealed multiple factors related to his visa led to the fight being off. However, things are looking good for the fight to take place early next year.

“Everything’s in force for the fight. It’s going to be postponed for about a month and a half, but everything’s in order,” Yan said. “There were different problems, with the flight, with the visa, during training I flew away for a visa deadline, lots of factors.

“We decided with the team to move everything to next year, perhaps the card will be more suitable. … Everything is good, training continues.”

While for previous fights, Yan may have gone ahead with taking risks with his preparation, this time is different.

“In the past, I could fly out to battle without thinking about anything, I could take risks,” Yan explained. “Now I need to do everything right, so that afterwards there won’t be any, ‘this wasn’t right, that wasn’t right.’”

Regardless of when the title fight is eventually rebooked, “No Mercy” remains confident of emerging on top.

“I see that I can beat him, it would be stupid not to believe in yourself,” he added. “The fight will happen.”

Yan became the bantamweight champion after winning the vacant title following a fifth-round TKO win over Jose Aldo at UFC 251 in July.

Deiveson Figueiredo On Brandon Moreno: I’m Going To Destroy Him

FigueiredoAhead of their verbally agreed UFC 256 meeting on December 12 – flyweight champion, Deiveson ‘Deus Da Garra’ Figueiredo, and challenger, Brandon ‘The Assassin Baby’ Moreno, seem to share quite a personal rivalry, with the Brazilian titleholder claiming he’s going to “destroy” the number-one contender in less than twenty days.  Headlining UFC 255 on Saturday […]

Ahead of their verbally agreed UFC 256 meeting on December 12 – flyweight champion, Deiveson ‘Deus Da Garra’ Figueiredo, and challenger, Brandon ‘The Assassin Baby’ Moreno, seem to share quite a personal rivalry, with the Brazilian titleholder claiming he’s going to “destroy” the number-one contender in less than twenty days.

Headlining UFC 255 on Saturday at the UFC Apex, Figueiredo managed to score a highlight-reel first-round guillotine over short-notice challenger, Alex Perez, lodging his first successful flyweight title defence.

Taking featured preliminary headlining status, number-one contender, Moreno retained his status as incoming title challenger when pitted with streaking up and comer, Brandon Royval – finishing the Marc Montoya trainee with a flurry of ground strikes, after the latter had suffered a nasty dislocation of his right shoulder, which was later relocated by his coach in the Octagon

In stunning fashion, UFC president Dana White revealed to media how the promotion was planning on keeping Figueiredo in the United States rather than allowing him to return to his native Brazil, in the hopes to book him opposite, Moreno just twenty-one days later.

With the pair verbally agreeing to meet on December 12, the UFC 256 card seems to have regained at least one title matchup, following the ultimate postponement of the scheduled bantamweight clash of reigning gold holder, Petr ‘No Mercy’ Yan, and standout contender, Aljamain ‘Funk Master’ Sterling.

Speaking with media following his stunning submission success against Perez, Figueiredo detailed how he plans to “destroy” the 26-year-old Tijuana born finisher.

I think I’m going to destroy him (Brandon Moreno),” Figueiredo said. “If I touch him, I’m going to break him. Just touching him. Because Brandon Moreno talk (sic) a lot of bad things about me. I have a personal problem with Brandon Moreno. I think I’m going to destroy Brandon Moreno in December. But I want the boss to show the desire to see this fight.”

Figueiredo, who had the opportunity to claim vacant flyweight title spoils at UFC Fight Night Norfolk in February, seen that chance pass by after he tipped the scales at 127.5-pounds – and ahead of a quick turnaround next month, claims Moreno will feel the same pressure as him to make adequate championship weight in such short notice.

The pressure I’m going to have to get the weight, he’s going to have [as well],” Figueiredo explained. “We’re in the same spot, It’s a war for both sides. If I have pressure, he’s going to have pressure.” (H/T MMA Fighting)

It doesn’t look like Tony Ferguson will be competing before the end of the year.

Ferguson recently called for a fight with Michael Chandler with the expectation that it would take place at the UFC 256 pay-per-view event set for December 12.

““Time-2-Rise” # D’arceKnightRises … Again ?? Lets Close out 2020 In Style. Michael Chandler you Putz, Ya Asked For It. # AddedToTheListBish’ CSO™ ????? December. @danawhite @seanshelby @ufc @MikeChandlerMMA # My?Mat -Champ ?

Given that the event lost its original headliner in the women’s featherweight title fight between Amanda Nunes and Megan Anderson along with it being card lacking major names, a lightweight bout between Ferguson and Chandler would have certainly beefed it up considerably.

However, that doesn’t look to be the case according to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani.

“Here’s Tony Ferguson begging to be added [to UFC 256] and I don’t think he’s going to be added,” Helwani said on DC & Helwani. “… He’s getting no response and I’m told he’s hitting a brick wall.”

It’s unclear why exactly the fight isn’t being given the green light.

After all, both fighters want to compete against each other and it’s a matchup that makes plenty of sense given the current state of the division. Hopefully, things change in the next few days.

UFC 256 is currently set to be headlined by a bantamweight title fight between Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling.

What do you make of Ferguson potentially not being added to UFC 256?

The main event of UFC 256 on December 12th. has taken a major hit. Promoted to headlining status, the featherweight championship pairing of Amanda ‘The Lioness’ Nunes and challenger, Megan Anderson has fallen to the wayside, with the former withdrawing from the tie, with reasons still undisclosed.

According to a recent report from ESPN MMA reporter, Brett Okamoto, Nunes has withdrawn from the event’s main event opposite Anderson, however, the matchup between the pair is set to remain intact, ahead of a rescheduling for a card in early 2021.

Nunes, the undisputed bantamweight and featherweight titleholder most recently took main event status at UFC 250 in June at the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas, scoring the first defence of her 145-pound crown with a relatively one-sided unanimous decision win over contender, Felicia ‘Feenom’ Spencer.

Australian striker, Anderson earned her premier title challenge under the UFC’s banner off the back of two consecutive victories over both Zarah Fairn dos Santos, and at UFC Fight Night Norfolk took home a knockout win over Norma Dumont Viana in February.

Bahia bruiser, Nunes is the consensus greatest female mixed martial artist of all time, as well as the most decorated practitioner among her UFC peers. With victories over former and current world champions, Valentina Shevchenko (x2), Germaine de Randamie (x2), Cris Cyborg, Holly Holm, Miesha Tate, and Ronda Rousey – the 32-year-old has convincingly cleaned out the 135-pound ranks.

Anderson, 30 has amassed an 11-4 professional record, scoring three wins under the UFC’s banner since her promotional bow back in 2018.

Claiming the interim Invicta FC title in a second-round high-kick knockout win over Charmaine Tweet, Anderson was promoted to the undisputed gold holder prior to her move to the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

While Nunes and Anderson follow the fallout of a scheduled welterweight title matchup between champion, Kamaru ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ Usman, and grappler, Gilbert ‘Durinho’ Burns – the UFC 256 showcase features a well-overdue bantamweight championship clash between Petr ‘No Mercy’ Yan and streaking challenger, Aljamain ‘Funk Master’ Sterling.

As of writing, it’s currently undisclosed if the promotion will promote the 135-pound title match of Yan and Sterling to the main event, or if the organization will attempt to put together another clash to take headlining status.
