Conor McGregor vows to never retire from MMA ahead of his UFC return

Former two-weight UFC champion, Conor McGregor has vowed to never call time on his professional mixed martial arts career ahead of his Octagon return – with the Dubliner gearing up for a welterweight comeback Michael Chandler.

McGregor, 34, a former undisputed lightweight and featherweight champion under the banner of the UFC, has been sidelined from active competition since headlining UFC 264 back in July 2021, suffering a fractured left tibia and fibula in a first round doctor’s stoppage TKO loss to Dustin Poirier

The Crumlin native returned to Las Vegas, Nevada for the first time since suffering his leg injury two years ago back in February of this year, filming The Ultimate Fighter 31 as an opposing coach against the above-mentioned lightweight contender, Chandler.

Conor McGregor admits he thought his career was over at UFC 264

Set to feature in the release of a new episodic documentary on Netflix, titled ‘McGregor Forever’ in May – McGregor claims he will never hang up his gloves from mixed martial arts, having claimed previously that he was under the impression his career was over after fracturing his leg against Poirier.

“I thought it was over, as well,” Conor McGregor said of his career during a snippet of ‘McGregor Forever’. “That’s why I flipped into a different mold. Now it’s the adrenaline as well, and I wouldn’t know –  I would have calmed down, and part of me’s thinking, ‘Jesus, imagine if it’s just been taken from me like that.’ I would go into – I would be a different person.”

As well as vowing never to call time on his professional career, Conor McGregor offered to rematch former undisputed featherweight champion, Max Holloway in the future.

Without a victory since January 20202, MCgregor managed to stop former lightweight ittle challenger, Donald Cerrone in a dominant, opening round 40-second knockout at the welterweight limit.

Conor McGregor opens on Dustin Poirier rant I thought my career was over UFC

Conor McGregor has explained the reasoning for his expletive-filled rant aimed at arch-rival, Dustin Poirier following their UFC 264 trilogy rubber match back in July 2021, claiming he believe his career was over off the back of his fibia and tibula fracture.

McGregor, a former undisputed lightweight and featherweight champion under the banner of the UFC banner, most recently headlined UFC 264 back in July 2021 against Lafayette native, Poirier, suffering a first round doctor’s stoppage TKO loss to the latter, having fractured his left tibia and fibula in the opening round.

In the immediate aftermath of the stoppage defeat, McGregor launched an x-rated and expletive-filled rant in the direction of both Poirier and his wife, Jolie Poirier – even going as far as to gesture gun signs to the pair and insinuating death threats in their direction.

Set to star in an upcoming Netflix multi-part series titled ‘McGregor Forever’, the documentary series focuses on McGregor’s fighting career and infamous leg injury, as well as his road to an earmarked comeback.

Conor McGregor admits he believed his career was over at UFC 264

Reflecting on the run-in with Louisiana native, Poirier, McGregor claimed he was under the impression his storied mixed martial arts career was over.

“I thought it was over, as well,” Conor McGregor said of his career during a snippet of ‘McGregor Forever’. “That’s why I flipped into a different mood. Now it’s the adrenaline as well, and I wouldn’t know –  I would have calmed down, and part of me’s thinking, ‘Jesus, imagine if it’s just been taken from me like that.’ I would go into – I would be a different person.”

“And it was scary, to be honest,” Conor Mcgregor explained. “It’s McGregor forever, that’s it, isn’t it? It’s McGregor forever. And don’t you forget it.”

Expected to make his Octagon return later this year, McGregor has teased an end-of-summer return against one-time vacant lightweight title challenger, Michael Chandler in a welterweight showdown.

The last fight between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier was almost a year and a half ago, but it seems to still be as fresh in McGregor’s mind as it was the day after.

The Irish superstar has lobbed many insults and brought various arguments to light about why things ended the way they did. Now, he’s back at it again with a fresh take on things.

Poirier and McGregor last clashed at UFC 264 in July of 2021. It was the trilogy fight, and coming into the bout, the two were 1-1 with each other. The men exchanged many heated blows, but McGregor’s tibia broke with less than 10 seconds left in the first round. The doctors would stop the fight, and Poirier would be crowned the victor.

Conor McGregor claims Dustin Poirier was “in space” during their last fight

Recently, McGregor would bring up the fabled trilogy fight once again. This time to say that he firmly believes the fight was going his way before the injury, and that his own strikes on ‘The Diamond’ had him lost in space.

“He was in space the last fight, he didn’t know where he was when giving his speeches and interviews. That fight was going only one way. I had the quad chewed up,” McGregor claimed. “The stand-up was even, he landed not one shot. Look at the velocity of the shots coming at him. He was in space post-fight. Smelly brown writing a novel post-fight so they please god won’t have to go through it again, but they will have to. Think goat fed to god.”

“I took not one calf kick in the trilogy,” Conor McGregor continued. “Trust me they won’t be getting given for free again. Little w****r kicks they are. If you can’t kick, kick the calf.”

Responding to fans who claimed the fight was in fact not going his way before the injury, ‘The Notorious’ said: “That’s dribble, and you know it. Time will show. I’ve beat everyone I’ve fought multiple times in the UFC. I’m the boss of the business.” (H/T The Mirror)

Since July of last year, McGregor, 34, has been sidelined from the Octagon, headlining UFC 264 against former interim lightweight champion, Dustin Poirier.

Featuring in the main event trilogy rubber match, Conor McGregor suffered a first round doctor’s stoppage TKO loss to the Lafayette native, Poirier, after fracturing his left tibia and fibula at the end of the first round.

Spending the time since recuperating and recovering following a surgical procedure in July of last year to address the leg injury, Conor McGregor is currently filming footage for the upcoming Roadhouse remake in the Dominican Republic.

Conor McGregor is currently ranked #11 in the official UFC lightweight rankings

The 34-year-old, who is still currently ranked #11 in the official UFC lightweight rankings, has, however, yet to be subject to anti-doping testing by the promotion’s partners, USADA, throughout this year.

As outlined by TSN reporter, Aaron Bronsteter, the only reason McGregor would be eligible to avoid testing would be formally notifying the UFC of his retirement from the sport, or if his contract with the organization was officially terminated.

“A. All Athletes under contract (i.e. have executed a Promotional Agreement) with UFC, from the effective date of their contract until the earlier of the termination of their contract with UFC or such time as they give notice to UFC in writing of their retirement from competition; (for the avoidance of doubt, if an Athlete returns to UFC under the same or a new Promotional Agreement, this Anti-Doping Policy shall apply to such Athlete);”

Yet to book an expected Octagon return in 2023, McGregor has teased a return to combat sports in the new year, maintaining he still intends to make a professional boxing return, however, insists a return to professional mixed martial arts must occur first.

Tuivasa Responds To Hardy’s UFC 264 Take With Trolling Instagram Video

Tai Tuivasa, Greg Hardy

UFC heavyweight contender Tai Tuivasa has responded to Greg Hardy’s attempts to downplay his victory at UFC 264 last July.

When heavyweights collide, we tend to either see big shots and brutal knockouts or, often, less-than entertaining decisions. When Tuivasa is in action, it’s almost always the former.

That was the case on the undercard of Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier’s trilogy fight in 2021. After rebounding from three consecutive losses with back-to-back first-round KOs against Stefan Struve and Harry Hunsucker, Tuivasa was matched up with former NFL defensive end Hardy.

After just over a minute, the fight was over, and “Bam Bam” was pouring beer into a dirty shoe. How did he get there? By knocking Hardy out.

After “Prince of War” appeared to rock the Australian, he moved in for the finish, a decision that would prove to be his downfall. With a hard left as Hardy rushed in, Tuivasa sent his opponent to the canvas and quickly forced referee Mark Smith to step in.

Tuivasa Mocks Hardy For Surprising Claims

Despite what appeared to be a fairly clear cut and convincing finish, Hardy provided a surprising view in a recent interview with Combat Sports on Fanatics View. When discussing his latest setback, which represented his second consecutive defeat, Hardy suggested Tuivasa fought like a coward and claimed he “didn’t get rocked.”

“Afterwards he turned into a clown. First of all, he talks all the trash about walking into the middle, and we all know what happened, right. He got slapped around and decided to run back to the cage,” said Hardy. “And I made a mistake… He cowarded out of the brawl that we agreed upon and started throwing little girl haymakers, and luckily lands one… But I didn’t get punched, didn’t get rocked, or anything; just did some stupid crap.”

Unsurprisingly, it hasn’t taken long for Tuivasa to respond. While some would reply in interviews or with statements on social media, “Bam Bam” is different. From the man who brought us an image of the face of a viral self-defense trainer on the body of Daniel Cormier, we’ve now got an edited video of Hardy that mocks his recent claims.

In a recent Instagram post, Tuivasa made one thing clear: ‘downplay my victory over you and you’ll have your talking face morphed onto yourself getting knocked out by me…’

“@greghardjr KEEEEFFFFFFEEEE I’ve fucked longer then our fight, like once! Go crawl back in your corner boy you all (cap)”

With his ’90s pop walkouts, his constant shoeys and newly-created shoeyvasa, and social media presence, Tuivasa really is the gift that just keeps on giving.

What do you make of Greg Hardy’s remarks about his loss to Tai Tuivasa at UFC 264?
