Michael Chandler Conor McGregor

Michael Chandler is not wanting to fight Conor McGregor in order to bust out the red panties.

Following his back and forth war with Justin Gaethje at UFC 268, Chandler made it clear that he is interested in a fight with McGregor, something that the Irishman said he was down for, though perhaps not immediately. However, the former Bellator champion wants this for a different reason than one might assume.

Speaking on The MMA Hour, Chandler explained that he has a lot of respect for the changes that McGregor has made for the UFC and the sport in general. So while a big payday might be nice, his true interest is in putting on a show for the most amount of fans possible, which is something that comes with a McGregor fight.

“Everyone wants Conor, obviously. But I think I want to fight him for a different reason. Everybody wants to fight Conor because it’s a big payday. I’m here in mixed martial arts to do big things, to be in big fights, big stages, against big opponents, in big arenas, with a lot of eyeballs. That’s what excites me about a fight with Conor,” Chandler said.

“I’ve got a lot of respect for Conor, and people will discredit what he has done because of certain things that he’s said, but what he has done is revolutionize the entire sport. The sport of mixed martial arts is better because Conor McGregor is in it. It’s bigger, and it’s got more eyeballs on it because of what Conor’s done. So to share the Octagon with him, that’s why I want to do it.

“It’s not the payday, it’s (not) the red panty night, it’s not all the other things that these fighters are chasing. Of course, do I want that? Do I want to proceed for my family? Of course. But I want epic moments of maximum amounts of impact, and that’s what you get when you fight Conor McGregor.”

Michael Chandler continued by explaining that he wishes Conor McGregor a successful recovery from his broken leg. He is aware that McGregor has options for his return, but hopes to stand apart of the shortlist.

“We’ll see what happens. Conor, I wish him well in his recovery. It looks like on his social media, he’s back out there, he’s training, he’s moving around, but he needs some time. He deserves some time. He’s set for life, he doesn’t need to fight… He fights because he loves, and he fights because of what it does for his soul, what he gets to do with his platform,” Chandler said.

“I think it’s a fight that makes sense. I think I’m a guy who’s solidified himself in the top of the division. Conor needs to come back and get a win, but he’s also got a ton of options. We’ll see what happens.”

Chael Sonnen Frankie Edgar

Chael Sonnen is not ready to close the door on Frankie Edgar’s UFC career just yet.

The entire UFC 268 card was filled with amazing fights. There were amazing finishes from start to finish. One performance that stood out was Marlon Vera’s front kick KO of Frankie Edgar. The nature of the finish has some people calling for Edgar to hang up his gloves, but the outspoken Chael Sonnen does not agree. He took to his YouTube page to air his feelings towards Edgar in the UFC 268 bout.

“Frankie won every bit of that fight. He won every exchange, every round, and every minute of that fight. He lost one second of it. One second and boom, kicked in the mouth, falls down, fight gets over,” Sonnen said. “That’s a horrible way to go out. Frankie definitely proved to us he could still do this. He definitely proved he still trains, he’s still in great shape, he’s got the speed, he’s got the power, he’s got the range, his boxing was on point digging to the body. Frankie looked great. He lost one second. We don’t know if we’re going to see a future Hall-of-Famer, a former champion again because he lost one second of a 13 and a half minute fight? Man, that’s tough.”

Edgar is 40 years old and has been competing in the UFC since 2007. Recently he has been asked about retirement on several occasions. Following the KO at UFC 268 this topic has been coming up a lot but Edgar is yet to address it head-on.

The loss against Vera was the second in a row for Edgar at his fourth loss in his last five fights. He is still being matched up with the very best the UFC has to offer and although he is a two-time champion, he is looking to add another belt to his mantle. This recent drop to bantamweight seemed like a last-ditch effort, but Edgar has explained that he is fighting because he loves it.

Sonnen knows a thing or two about fighting for such a long time. He continued to fight until he was 42 years old. Now he is passing his knowledge on using his YouTube channel and podcast. In his expertise, he believes Edgar has more high-level competition in him.

Do you agree with Chael Sonnen that Frankie Edgar can continue to fight in the UFC?

Henry Cejudo Claims Kamaru Usman Is ‘Without A Doubt’ The Welterweight GOAT

Henry Cejudo

Former undisputed UFC flyweight and bantamweight champion, Henry Cejudo has claimed that is it now beyond doubt that Dominance MMA stablemate, Kamaru Usman is undeniably the greatest welterweight mixed martial artist of all time off the back of his fifth consecutive title defense at UFC 268 last weekend.

Usman, who racked up his fifth straight successful welterweight title knockback at Madison Square Garden last weekend, managed to even out a late rally from two-time opponent, former interim welterweight titleholder, Colby Covington to land his second decision win over the Clovis native.

With the victory, Usman, who is the current pound-for-pound #1 fighter on the UFC’s books as per the official rankings, became the most prolific streaking welterweight in the history of the organization — lodging his fifteenth consecutive victory since his bow on The Ultimate Fighter in 2015.

Immediately following his unanimous judging win over Covington, comparisons between Usman’s run and the legendary streak of former two-weight champion, Georges St-Pierre rose to the surface once more — with UFC president, Dana White claiming that an argument could be made that the Auchi native had surpassed the former welterweight and middleweight kingpin as the best welterweight of all time.

Henry Cejudo backs Kamaru Usman as the greatest welterweight of all time

Backing up those claims, however, is another former two-division UFC champion — the aforenoted, Cejudo. Speaking with The Schmo post-UFC 268, the Olympic gold medalist laid out a pretty cut and dry argument as to why he views Usman as the greatest welterweight to ever compete in the sport.

Of course, without a doubt,” Henry Cejudo said when speaking of Usman’s status as the welterweight best. “I mean, GSP [Georges St-Pierre’ has done some amazing things but GSP has also had close fights.

You can almost put an asterisk when he fought Johny Hendricks,” Henry Cejudo said. “He’s had close fights before and like I said before, Kamaru Usman is putting people away, he’s hurting people, I mean he’s literally knocking people out essentially. He wasn’t able to do it against Colby Covington but you can’t deny it, man.

Cejudo continued and claimed that Usman’s numbers as champion speak for themselves, as well as his status as the promotion’s pound-for-pound king. And also believes the ONX Labs trainee and Trevor Wittman student can make further evolvements to his overall game.

“Those numbers don’t like and there’s a reason why Kamaru Usman is pound-for-pound — and the crazy thing about it too is that there is a lot of room for improvement that I see with Kamaru Usman,” Henry Cejudo said. (Transcribed by MMA News)

This year alone, Usman lodged the third and fourth successful title defense of his reign with a pair of knockout wins over both former teammate, Gilbert Burns, and two-time foe, Jorge Masvidal — the second of which came in April in the form of a brutal second round one-punch finish in Jacksonville, Florida.

UFC president Dana White recently stated that one of his UFC 268 prelim fighters made close to $1 million to fight on the undercard.

White has been criticized by fighters, fans, and pundits for the alleged underpaying of his athletes. But during a recent interview on the podcast ‘Pardon My Take’, White was asked how much one of his fighters made during the recent UFC 268 pay-per-view and gave an eye-opening figure.

“You know this kid [Badou] Jack, former [boxing] world champion,” White said. “He’s fighting this weekend in the middle east, and he’s making $75k, okay?. A guy who’s on the prelims, never been a world champion, and I won’t mention his name, is making $750,000.”

Dana White Revealed One UFC 268 Prelim Fighter Made $750,000

After the clip went viral, speculation ran rampant regarding who White could’ve been referring to. One theory is that White misspoke, and meant to point out one of the fighters on the main card, including Justin Gaethje or Michael Chandler.

White has been the target of the controversial YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul regarding UFC fighter pay, and the two have gone back and forth in the media over the issue. Former UFC fighters Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley have claimed they made more to fight Paul in the boxing ring than they ever did during their UFC tenures.

It’s important to note that the interview in question took place on Nov. 5, one day before UFC 268 in New York.

What are your thoughts on Dana White and the ongoing UFC fighter pay debate?

Kamaru Usman Thinks Colby Covington Made One Huge Mistake

Kamaru Usman

UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman thinks Colby Covington overlooked him at their rematch in the UFC 268 main event.

Usman closed the door on his rivalry with Covington with a unanimous decision victory at UFC 268. It was a back-and-forth war from start to finish, but Usman had his way in the championship rounds and earned the win on the judges’ scorecards.

But Usman feels that Covington wasn’t completely prepared for the bout in the right way, and felt that the welterweight champion hadn’t made any strides since their first matchup. Usman believes this was a key reason for Covington’s downfall in the octagon.

Kamaru Usman defeated Colby Covington by unanimous decision at UFC 268

Usman detailed his thoughts on Covington’s approach at UFC 268 during a recent interview with Daniel Cormier.

“He went to a new team that was better strategically,” Usman said. “Like, you can tell that they did their due diligence and they were trying to set me up for something. They expected the old fighter, from fight one. So they planned for that fighter, and their strategy was for that fighter.”

“What they didn’t understand is that I was a completely different fighter. I know how to control range now,” Usman continued. “I know how to keep balance in my shots, and I know how to keep him away. So I think he was surprised once he got in there and I wasn’t that same guy.”

Usman’s latest win over Covington was his fifth successful title defense, since originally earning the belt over Tyron Woodley at UFC 235. He’s earned knockouts over Jorge Masvidal and Gilbert Burns during his title reign.

With the Covington rivalry behind him, at least for now, Usman awaits a new challenger to rise up the ranks of the welterweight division. A potential future matchup between Usman and Khamzat Chimaev could be on the horizon, but it’s unclear what the UFC brass has in mind for Usman’s next challenge in the cage.

Weili Zhang used some unusual training tactics to get ready for her fight at UFC 268 in New York City.

UFC 268 took place in New York City at the famed Madison Square Garden Arena. The co-main event showed champion Rose Namajunas defeating former champion Weili Zhang via split decision. This fight was a rematch of the UFC 261 fight which also took place in the United States. After the fight, Zhang spoke about how she feared the fans were against her after anti-communist remarks made by Namajunas.

New York is a place where the fans are notably loud and in some cases hateful. They have been known to boo against their own teams, let alone a rival. Knowing this going in, Zhang utilized some boo simulation to help her get used to the noise. She had tape playing during her practices of fans yelling and booing her. Zhang was asked post-fight if this method helped her.

“So I think the training was definitely helpful,” Zhang said through a translator. “I think why I got booed, I think that I understand that it’s not like they don’t like me. It’s just because I’m not one of their countrywomen. So I’m just not from the same country. So with that in mind, I feel a lot better. So also I remind myself when they’re booing me, I just take a breath, deep breath, and get their energy.”

This unique type of training was just one new piece that Zhang added to her arsenal. She also began training with former two-division champion Henry Cejudo. Although she still fell short on Saturday night, Zhang is happy with her performance and how all the new skills she learned worked out in her favor.

Do you think Weili Zhang will ever hold the strawweight belt around her waist again?
