UFC welterweight contender Leon Edwards has claimed that bitter rival Jorge Masvidal turned down five rounds for their upcoming fight at UFC 269.

In a matchup over two years in the making, Edwards and Masvidal will finally enter the Octagon together at the final UFC pay-per-view of 2021. The Englishman was last in action at UFC 263 in June. Despite extending his unbeatens streak to 10 with a unanimous decision victory over Nate Diaz, “Rocky” still found himself behind Colby Covington in the queue for a title shot, and was encouraged to remain active by UFC President Dana White.

Masvidal, meanwhile, will be entering the December 11 clash off the back of consecutive championship defeats to current welterweight king Kamaru Usman. After being controlled for five rounds in Abu Dhabi last Summer, “Gamebred” had a second crack at dethroning “The Nigerian Nightmare” at UFC 261 in April. Despite having a full camp, the Miami native was brutally knocked out in the second round. Masvidal will now look to move one step closer to a trilogy against Usman with an impressive performance against Edwards.

Despite the likes of Daniel Cormier advising him to wait for the title shot many believe he deserves, Edwards is seemingly happy to net the biggest pay check of his career, and in the process, finally get his hands on Masvidal.

The pair’s rivalry began after a backstage altercation at a UFC Fight Night event in London in 2019. After being interrupted by Edwards during an interview, the former title challenger bust the Jamaican-born Brit open with a fast combination. Edwards, who recently claimed the promotion had to hide Masvidal and fly him out of the country to avoid payback, told Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour that he can’t wait to finally face the opponent he says he’s been pushing to fight for nearly three years.

“For me, they came with the right figures. We went back-and-forth for about two weeks. I was just trying to get the right situation that obviously best for me and my team. We ended up getting it done, you know, so I am looking forward to finally getting my hands on him, you know, it’s been, like i said, it’s been almost three years. I’ve been pushing for this fight for three years, and I’m looking forward to it.”

“Rocky” admitted that he was surprised Masvidal didn’t run away from the bout. However, he claimed the 36-year-old did run from one stipulation; a five-round fight.

“I thought he would’ve went running to be fair. Last three years, all he did was make excuses. I asked the UFC for a five-round fight with him. I think he turned around and said he wants three rounds, so that’s the reason we’re at three rounds now. Either way, a fight’s a fight. Put me in there against him and we’ll see the outcome.

“I haven’t fought three rounds now for a long time Ariel, I’m a championship fighter. My last five fights were probably all five rounds, so, I am looking forward to doing the three. I’ll be able to sprint at three, so, I am looking forward to it.”

Who do you think will have their hand raised at UFC 269, Leon Edwards or Jorge Masvidal?

There is certainly no love lost between Jorge Masvidal and Leon Edwards.

After more than two years of buildup, stemming from a backstage scrap, Masvidal is finally set to face Edwards at UFC 269 on December 11th. Naturally, the two have been going back and forth since the fight has been announced and it has certainly not let up.

Speaking on The MMA Hour, Masvidal absolutely tore into his upcoming opponent and his supposed tough upbringing in Birmingham, England. Here, the BMF champ questioned the validity of his life on the streets compared to the experiences that “Gamebred” himself had, stating that if this were the case, there would be a lot of things different in Edwards’s demeanor after the two had their infamous backstage altercation in 2019.

“I’m not going to diss Birmingham or nothing, but I don’t care where he comes from because where I come from, and how I grew up, that guy wouldn’t have lived one day in it. In the actual heat of the moment, he never would’ve survived. He just would have stayed home the whole time, waiting for his parents to get WIFI for him to develop social skills because this guy’s a coward,” Masvidal said.

“What he did to me in England showed me everything that I ever needed to know about this guy. He can say that he grew up in this or that place, but he didn’t. He comes from a place that’s not what he says. I’m telling you man, this guy is not who he says he is at all. Nobody that is like that, that comes from these places, acts like he does. He’s a coward and I”m going to say it to his face before and after I beat his ass.

Three-Piece & A Soda

“You’re talking all this crap and then when somebody gets in your face you’re like hesitant about it. Like, you know exactly what’s going to happen if you come from these places. You see I’m walking towards you and you’re walking towards me, and you’re going to say I assaulted you? That’s coward shit. He was saying assault and he originally wanted to call the cops on me, but what would’ve happened? That wouldn’t have looked good for his brand, and ‘I’m such a tough guy’ thing that he’s trying to proclaim. So that’s why he didn’t want to call the cops, but originally they wanted to press charges on me, when you started this altercation.”

While Jorge Masvidal maintains that this fight with Leon Edwards is not personal, it clearly appears that they do not like one another. Lucky for the fans, they will finally square off in the Octagon before the year is over.

UFC welterweight contender Leon Edwards has revealed the promotion has guaranteed him the next title shot if he defeats Jorge Masvidal later this year.

In a clash over two years in the making, Edwards and Masvidal will collide at UFC 269 on December 11. The blockbuster bout will be the culmination of a rivalry that began at a UFC Fight Night event in London back in 2019. In the aftermath of his knockout victory over Edwards’ compatriot Darren Till, “Gamebred” was being interviewed by Laura Sanko backstage when he was interrupted by “Rocky.”

After a brief exchange of words, Masvidal approached the 30-year-old and delivered the infamous “three piece and a soda” combination, leaving a cut on the face of Edwards. According to the Jamaican-born Brit, the Miami native had to be hid and flown out of the country to avoid a revenge attack.

While it may have taken a while, Edwards will have his chance for payback before 2021 is out.

While you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone in the MMA community who isn’t excited for the matchup, many believe Edwards should instead be fighting for gold. Since a defeat to current champion Kamaru Usman back in 2015, the #3-ranked contender has built a 10-fight unbeaten streak that includes victories over Vicente Luque, Donald Cerrone, Gunnar Nelson, Rafael dos Anjos, and Nate Diaz.

Even though he dominated Diaz for the best part of 24 minutes at UFC 263, Edwards believes he’s paying the price for the final minute, which saw the Stockton native rock him on the feet.

Despite the likes of Daniel Cormier advising Edwards to wait for the shot at gold most believe he deserves, the Englishman has taken the advice of UFC President Dana White, and chosen to remain active while Colby Covington has a second crack at dethroning “The Nigerian Nightmare.” The former interim champ is set to face Usman at UFC 268 despite having only fought once since his loss to the 170-pound kingpin in 2019.

Nevertheless, Edwards says he accepted the matchup with Masvidal with the promotion’s assurance that a victory will secure his place opposite Usman next. Speaking during a recent appearance on Ariel Helwani’s The MMA Hour, “Rocky” revealed a guaranteed title shot was “100%” part of the deal.

“They came with the right figures, so I thought I’ll make a little stop off before my title shot… [Is part of that deal, you’re fighting for the belt next if you win on December 11?] Yes, that’s 100% part of the deal. I said it, even before the money came up, I said listen, ‘If I do this fight for you guys, I want to fight for the title next.’ They said yes so, I go out there, I put the performance of my life in and I fight for the title next.

“I believe in my heart [that I’ll fight for the title next]. Where else do they go? There’s no way they can come with someone else… Like I said, I’m focused on the task at hand. I’ve got Masvidal in December, go out there, like I said, and take him out. That’s a fight I’ve wanted for a long time. I can not wait to go out there and shut him up.”

Do you think Leon Edwards should fight for the title if he defeats Jorge Masvidal at UFC 269?

Leon Edwards Demands BMF Title With Jorge Masvidal Win

Leon Edwards thinks he is one win away from being the deserving BMF champ.

Edwards is set to take on Jorge Masvidal, after a few years of build-up between the two, starting with a backstage brawl in 2019. This viral moment was the start of the meteoric resurrection of Masvidal, which included two shots at welterweight gold, a five-second knockout, and a Baddest Motherf—ker title win, by beating Nate Diaz to capture the specially crafted BMF belt.

With Edwards already holding a win over Diaz and being slated to face Masvidal at the end of the year, he believes that he is in line for a BMF title himself. Speaking on The MMA Hour, he made the case for why he should be considered the BMF champ if he beats the two men for whom the title was created.

“This is my 12th fight in a row without losing, and I am looking forward to going out there and showing the world just how good I am. To go out there and take out Nate and take out Masvidal, the two BMFs, I feel like I deserve that belt. Give me that belt after,” Edwards said.

This is not exactly terrible logic from Leon Edwards, who makes a good point, considering the fact that the BMF title was only on the line for one fight. That being said, there is also strong reasoning to back up the idea that Kamaru Usman is the lineal BMF champ, considering the fact that he holds two wins over Jorge Masvidal, including a brutal knockout.

Of course, this is all for fun, as the BMF title is not an actual belt with any real stakes. Either way, fans are pumped to finally see Leon Edwards and Jorge Masvidal square off in the Octagon.

UFC bantamweight contender, Sean O’Malley has taken a shot toward recent lightweight debutante, Paddy Pimblett — criticizing the fan favorite’s physique, claiming that the Liverpool native has “got fat as f*ck” since his debut victory over Luigi Vendramini back in September.

Montana native, O’Malley, is currently scheduled to feature as part of the stacked UFC 269 card at the end of this year on December 11. — attempting to extend his winning run to three straight fights as he tackles the #15 ranked contender, Raulian Paiva.

O’Malley is currently in the midst of a two-fight winning run, having stopped promotional alum, Thomas Almeida with a massive highlight-reel ground strike at UFC 260 in March — before stopping promotional newcomer, Kris Moutinho with a series of strikes on the feet in the final round of their UFC 264 clash in July — setting multiple striking records for his bantamweight weight class.

For Pimblett, on the other hand, the Huyton native recently made his long-awaited UFC debut back in September as part of the UFC Vegas 36.

The former Cage Warriors featherweight champion managed to survive an early striking scare from the aforenoted Brazilian, Vendramini — before stopping the heavy hitter at the fence later in the opening round with a well-placed barrage.

Following the victory, Pimblett dined in Las Vegas, Nevada with his team, explaining how he had consumed countless fast-food meals in ‘Sin City’ — before returning to his native Liverpool and then partaking in a holiday with his partner. Pimblett also recently shut down. the idea of him fighting O’Malley in the future.

Sean O’Malley Labels Paddy Pimblett ‘Fat As F*ck’, Questions His Physique

Speaking on his podcast recently, O’Malley, a product of Dana White‘s Contender Series — claimed Pimblett had experienced a significant weight gain since his Octagon bow last month, calling the Next Generation MMA staple “fat“”.

He (Paddy Pimblett) got fat as sh*t,” Sean O’Malley said. “Did you see that? He got fat as f*ck… He got big, but he said he got another fight booked and it’s not that (Jared) Gordon guy. I wonder who it is.” (Transcribed by Sportskeeda)

The 17-3 Pimblett hit the headlines last week when reports emerged detailing how he had put pen to paper on a “seven figure deal” to act as a content creator and brand ambassador for New York-based multi-media company, Barstool Sports — founded by Dave Portnoy.

Reacting to the deal, O’Malley wished Pimblett well, but questioned how he managed to get a deal of that magnitude done.

Damn, I wonder how he (Pimblett) got that,” Sean O’Malley questioned. “I wonder if it was his management or what… I wonder if they have a specific role they want him to play… That’s crazy though. That’s a fat deal, good for him.

Former interim UFC lightweight champion, Dustin Poirier has thrice shared the Octagon with arch-rival, former two-weight champion, Conor McGregor, and insists the Dubliner is undeniably the biggest hitter he’s ever faced throughout his professional career.

Lafayette native, Poirier is scheduled to headline UFC 269 on December 11. coming — challenging current undisputed lightweight kingpin, Charles Oliveira for gold, in his second attempt at wrapping the undisputed title round his waist.

The American Top Team native is currently in the midst of a three-fight winning spree since his first undisputed title challenge against then-champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov back in September 2019, taking a unanimous decision victory over Dan Hooker in June of last year in his first bout since a submission loss to Khabib in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Putting Yas Island woes behind him back in January, Poirier became the first to finish the aforenoted, McGregor with strikes in professional mixed martial arts, stopping the Dubliner with a second round knockout as well as avenging a September 2014 featherweight knockout defeat of his own.

In July, Poirier managed to prevail with bragging rights against the Crumlin counter at UFC 264 — after McGregor suffered a fractured left tibia at the close of the opening round, resulting in a doctor’s stoppage TKO victory.

Dustin Poirier Describes Conor McGregor As “Special Individual”, Hardest Hitting Opponent.

Speaking recently off the back of his victory over the former lightweight and featherweight champion and ahead of his December clash with the aforenoted, Oliveira, Poirier explained that the Dubliner comfortably exceeds the rest of his opponents as the hardest hitter he’s shared the Octagon with.

Conor McGregor, no doubt about it,” Dustin Poirier told The Vault host Patrick Bet-David. “As the biggest puncher I fought? Yeah, he’s a special individual for sure. Fought him in 2014, lost and that was when his trajectory was just… sky was the limit. He was on his way up and he tore through everybody and became a two-weight world champion. But yeah, I fought him twice this year… It’s still the same, very dangerous.” (Transcribed by Sportskeeda)

Whilst Poirier prepares for his December date with Oliveira, the aforenoted, McGregor recently fired more barbs aimed the Louisianan and his family, for the manner in which they celebrated his UFC 264 doctor’s stoppage victory, while he was sat on the Octagon canvas, injured.
