Michael Chandler has given his prediction for how he sees the fight between Dustin Poirier and Charles Oliveira playing out when the two meet later this year.

After coming to the UFC as one of the most accomplished fighters to never fight inside the promotion, Michael Chandler had a dream start to life with his new company as he scored a huge knockout victory over Dan Hooker.

Following his debut, Chandler had a quick turnaround and competed against Charles Oliveira for the vacant lightweight title just four months later. Despite a strong first round, the 35-year-old was caught and finished just 19-seconds into the second round.

While Chandler remains optimistic about fighting for UFC gold once again in the near future, he believes “Do Bronx” may not be the man sitting atop the division if that time ever arrives.

Charles Oliveira, Michael Chandler

During a recent appearance on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Hour, Michael Chandler began by applauding Oliveira for evolving and becoming the fighter we see today.

“I think they’re both complete fighters. I think Oliveira has shown over his last couple of fights, especially in the fight against me, his hands have come along,” Chandler stated. “He is basic and he hits hard. He hits harder than we think. His grappling is obviously…has always been on point.”

Although he was complimentary towards the champ, Chandler sees the fight going against the Brazilian.

“But I just think Dustin Poirier is a little bit better in every area. I think Dustin Poirier’s cardio, I think Dustin Poirier’s ability to get him hurt and finish the fight like I wasn’t able to do, is second to none. I think Dustin Poirier wins that fight by third or fourth-round stoppage.” Guessed Chandler.

Charles Oliveira will be hoping to make his first successful defense of the UFC lightweight title when he puts it all on the line against Dustin Poirier at UFC 269 on December 11.

Do you agree with Michael Chandler’s prediction?

Former UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz is back, and it seems he will be fighting Pedro Munhoz.

After dropping his title to Cody Garbrandt, Cruz dropped another bout to Henry Cejudo for the vacant title. However he returned to action in March to win a split decision over Casey Kenney, proving that he is far from washed up.

Now, it seems that the Dominator is returning for his second fight of the year, this time facing off against #9-ranked Pedro Munhoz. Sources revealed to MMAFighting that this fight is in the works to take place at UFC 269 on December 9th, with verbal agreements in place but no contracts signed just yet.

For Dominick Cruz, this will be the first time that he has fought twice in one calendar year since he recaptured the title from TJ Dillashaw in 2016, defended it against Urijah Faber, and then lost to the aforementioned Garbrandt. However, Pedro Munhoz will be looking to right the ship after dropping three of his last four, all of which to current former champions.

This bout is looking to be added to the stacked last pay-per-view of the year for UFC 269, which is confirmed to feature Amanda Nunes defending her bantamweight strap against Julianna Peña. Also on this card will be the flyweight title rubber match between Brandon Moreno and Deiveson Figueiredo.

This is by no means an easy fight for Dominick Cruz or Pedro Munhoz, but it will do a lot to show where each man is in their respective careers. Pedro will look to keep his spot in the top ten alive, while Dom hopes to show that he still has what it takes to hang with the top dogs in the super-stacked and ever-changing bantamweight division.

Who do you see taking the victory in this massive clash at 135lb?

Hall

Ryan Hall will be competing again before the end of the year.

As per MMA Junkie, Hall has agreed to a featherweight bout with Darrick Minner at the UFC 267 pay-per-view event taking place December 11.

Bout agreements are expected to be signed with an official announcement soon after.

Hall will be looking to return to the win column after suffering his first UFC defeat. The grappling wizard was knocked out in the first round of his featherweight contest with Ilia Topuria at UFC 264 back in July. It halted an eight-fight winning streak for Hall who was previously looking to climb the rankings and enter title contention.

He will have to go back to the drawing board against the unranked Minner who is coming off a TKO defeat to Darren Elkins in July. He was on a two-fight winning streak prior to that setback.

With the addition of this bout, here is how UFC 269 currently looks:

  • Amanda Nunes vs. Julianna Pena – women’s bantamweight title
  • Brandon Moreno vs. Deiveson Figueiredo – flyweight title
  • Randy Costa vs. Tony Kelley
  • Cody Garbrandt vs. Kai Kara-France
  • Priscila Cachoeira vs. Gillian Robertson
  • Maycee Barber vs. Montana De La Rosa
  • Dricus Du Plessis vs. Andre Muniz
  • Alex Perez vs. Matt Schnell
  • Ryan Hall vs. Darrick Minner

[UPDATE]

Brandon Moreno vs. Deiveson Figueiredo III has now been moved to UFC 270 on January 22 per ESPN Deportes.

[ORIGINAL STORY PUBLISHED SEPTEMBER 16, 2021, 1:28 AM]

Deiveson Figueiredo will get the trilogy bout he’s been pushing for when he meets rival Brandon Moreno at UFC 269.

First reported by ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, Brandon Moreno will fight Deiveson Figueiredo for the third consecutive time when the two collide in December. According to the report, The UFC’s first choice was to book Moreno opposite Alexandre Pantoja. However, Pantoja was deemed unavailable for the December 11 date, and Moreno wanted to remain active. Thus, the stars have aligned for this trilogy bout.

The first time the two competed was at UFC 256 last December. In what was considered one of the year’s best fights and arguably the best flyweight bout in UFC history, the fight ended in a majority draw.

The elite flyweights would naturally meet again in a bout that took place at UFC 263 in June. This time, there were no questions on who was the better man after Moreno earned the victory via third-round rear-naked choke.

Following the bout, Figueiredo instantly went on the campaign trail, urging Moreno to accept a trilogy fight through insults and assurances of a different outcome in a trilogy bout. Moreno initially called on the former champion to earn a title shot, but his thirst for violence eventually got the better of him, prompting him to squeeze in one more knock at year’s end.

The venue for UFC 269 is currently to be determined. With the addition of this bout, the current UFC 269 lineup is as follows:

UFC Women’s Bantamweight Title Bout: Amanda Nunes(c) vs. Julianna Peña

UFC Flyweight Title Bout: Brandon Moreno(c) vs. Deiveson Figueiredo

Maycee Barber vs. Montana De La Rosa

Cody Garbrandt vs. Kai Kara France

Randy Costa vs. Tony Kelley

Priscila vs. Gillian Robertson

Dricus Du Plessis vs. Andre Muniz

Who do you think takes the trilogy bout? Champion Brandon Moreno or Deiveson Figueiredo?

Miranda Maverick

Following Maycee Barber’s withdrawal, Miranda Maverick will now be facing the 7-1 Erin Blanchfield at UFC 269 as revealed by MMA reporter Nolan King on Monday.

This slot on the card was originally intended to be filled by Maycee Barber facing Montana De La Rosa. After De La Rosa had to pull out, Blanchfield was picked as the short-notice replacement. Now, Maverick has stepped up to replace Barber.

Though Barber vs. Blanchfield had become the plan, an overwhelming number of people believe Maverick was the rightful winner of her bout against Barber at July’s UFC on ESPN: Sandhagaen vs. Dillashaw event. Aside from that controversial loss, Maverick has won her last five UFC bouts. She is currently 2-1 in the promotion.

Her opponent, Erin Blanchfield, is a 22-year-old upstart, who is only two years younger than the 24-year-old Maverick. Blanchfield is currently riding a four-fight winning streak and made a successful UFC debut in September when topping Sarah Alpar.

With this change, here is the updated lineup for UFC 269 on December 11:

  • Lightweight Championship Bout: Charles Oliveira (c) vs. Dustin Poirier
  • Women’s Bantamweight Championship Bout: Amanda Nunes (c) vs. Julianna Peña
  • Leon Edwards vs. Jorge Masvidal
  • Pedro Munhoz vs. Dominick Cruz
  • Cody Garbrandt vs. Kai Kara-France
  • Sean O’ Malley vs. Raulian Paiva
  • Geoff Neal vs. Santiago Ponzinibbio
  • Ryan Hall vs. Darrick Miner
  • Alex Perez vs. Matt Schnell
  • Josh Emmett vs. Dan Ige
  • Miranda Maverick vs. Erin Blanchfield
  • Dricus Du Plessis vs. Andre Muniz
  • Gillian Robertson vs. Priscila Cachoeira
  • Randy Costa vs. Tony Kelley
  • Bruno Silva vs. Jordan Wright
