Pedro Munhoz Criticizes Sean O’Malley Following UFC 276, Calls Out ‘Computer Gangsters’

Pedro MunhozUFC bantamweight contender, Pedro Munhoz has criticized surging division challenger, Sean O’Malley for his handling of last weekend’s UFC 276 official ‘No Contest’ – after the Montana native landed a second round eye poke, with Munhoz suffering a corneal abrasion as a result.  Opening the main card of UFC 276 last weekend in Las Vegas, […]

Pedro Munhoz

UFC bantamweight contender, Pedro Munhoz has criticized surging division challenger, Sean O’Malley for his handling of last weekend’s UFC 276 official ‘No Contest’ – after the Montana native landed a second round eye poke, with Munhoz suffering a corneal abrasion as a result.

Opening the main card of UFC 276 last weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada during International Fight Week, Munhoz’s matchup against O’Malley ended in an official ‘No Contest’ almost midway through the second frame, after the latter landed an inadvertent eye poke to Munhoz’s right eye, resulting in acute pain and an abrasion to his right cornea.

Earlier in the first round, Munhoz – who had taken the opening round on all three judges’ scorecards against O’Malley, also required a stoppage in the action after he found himself on the receiving end of another unintentional foul – this time a groin strike after a misplaced front kick to the body from O’Malley.

Pedro Munhoz questioned why Sean O’Malley mocked his eye injury at UFC 276

Following the official ‘No Contest’, O’Malley celebrated in the Octagon with his usual basketball-themed celebration, before embracing Munhoz, and raising his arm in victory during his reading of the official result.

Taking umbrage with O’Malley’s post-fight comments and how he handled the situation, Munhoz questioned why the Dana White’s Contender Series alum firstly embraced him before changing his proverbial tune.

“A lot of his actions after the fight, are things that I don’t think are right, based on my values,” Pedro Munhoz said of Sean O’Malley on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani. “Like, he came and aplogized, and then make a video on Tik Tok making fun of me. So you apologize to me for poking me – because he realized, he came up to me and said, ‘I didn’t mean to poke me in the eye.’… I tell my kids not to do it, you know, like you say one thing, and then you go make fun.”

“All his friends, all these guys texting me, talking about my wife, talking about my family, saying they’re gonna fight me,” Pedro Munhoz said. “And guess what, to them I say, you can come find me, Sunday, I’ll be at the pool all day, a few of them walked by, but they’re gangster computers, Ariel. …”

Former two-weight UFC champion, Conor McGregor has once again praised the performance of his compatriot and fellow Dubliner, Ian Garry following the Portmarnock native’s unanimous decision win over Gabe Green at UFC 276 last weekend, touting the 24-year-old as a potential future divisional gold holder.

Conor McGregor, a native of Crumlin, has been touted by Garry as an inspiration to pursue his streaking professional mixed martial arts career, with the latter even going as far as getting a McGregor-inspired “little daisy” tattoo on his right arm following his November UFC bow.

Conor McGregor heaps praise on Ian Garry post-UFC 276

Expected to return to the Octagon before either the end of this year if not the beginning of 2023 as per UFC president, Dana White, McGregor who stylistically broke down Garry’s UFC 268 knockout win over Jordan Williams last November, similarly shared his thoughts on Garry’s win over Green last Saturday.

“Ian Garry was incredibly impressive this weekend,” Conor McGregor tweeted. ‘Fully immersed in it all. Enjoying every second. Willingness to engage/commit. The potential for another “future” Irish MMA UFC champion rose by a real nice margin this weekend. Congrats Ian, keep going brother! (three-leaf clover emoji) (love heart emoji).”

In response to McGregor’s message of support, Garry once more called for the Octagon to return to Dublin in the future – in tandem with a card featuring the former two-division promotional champion.

“Thank you!” Ian Garry tweeted. “The Take Over Part 2 continues to grow, I cannot wait for your return. Let’s bring the @ufc back to  Dublin It’s inevitable. (Irish flag emoji) (three-leaf clover emoji) (green heart emoji).”

Improving to 10-0 professionally with Saturday’s victory, Garry, a former Cage Warriors welterweight champion, added Green to a prior win this year against Darian Weeks – landing a unanimous decision triumph at UFC 273 in April.

Off the back of his stunning opening round knockout victory against Sean Strickland last Saturday on the main card of UFC 276, red-hot middleweight contender, Alex Pereira has made his debut in the top-15 of the division-clinching the #6 rank at 185lbs.

Alex Pereira, a former two-weight GLORY Kickboxing champion, featured on the main card of last weekend’s high-profile International Fight Week card at UFC 276, stopping Strickland in the first round to earn his third Octagon triumph.

Circling the North Carolina native onto a thunderous left hook, Pereira dropped Strickland before rendering the contender unconscious with a pair of follow-up right hands.

The victory came as the Sao Paulo striker’s third in the UFC since his November promotional debut, adding to a flying knee finish against Andreas Michailidis, and a unanimous decision win over compatriot, Bruno Silva.

Alex Pereira lands at #6 in the official middleweight rankings

Expected to challenge undisputed middleweight titleholder, Israel Adesanya for divisional gold next, Pereira has landed at #6 in the official division rankings update, behind Derek Brunson, Paulo Costa, and Marvin Vettori – who all received climbs as Strickland slipped to #7 off the back of his first round knockout defeat.

Following his hard-fought unanimous decision win over Uriah Hall, surging Brazilian grappling maestro, Andre Muniz managed to capture the #10 rank at 185lbs, cracking the top-10 for the first time in his promotional tenure.

Moving to #3 at featherweight following his recent jump, Josh Emmett continues to ride momentum following his close, UFC Austin win against Calvin Kattar late last month. Ipswitch striker, Arnold Allen also continued his climb in a shuffle, sitting at joint-#5 alongside Kattar.

In a random shuffle at bantamweight, Ricky Simon moved to #11 in place of former lightweight champion, Frankie Edgar – with the former slated to fight Jack Shore at UFC Long Island.

Defeating Jessica Eye and sending the one-time title challenger into retirement, Maycee Barber made the leap from #13 to #10 at flyweight to boot.

Off the back of his one-sided co-headlining loss to featherweight king, Alexander Volkanovski, former titleholder, Max Holloway slipped to #8 in the official pound-for-pound pile, as did Jon Jones, with the former light heavyweight kingpin, sliding to #11 amid his term of inactivity.

Division champions, Aljamain Sterling, and Jiri Prochazka also climbed in the pound-for-pound rankings, as well as former interim lightweight titleholder, Dustin Poirier – who managed to secure himself the #6 rank.
