Most definitely going to bat for his client, Dominance MMA manager, Ali Abdelaziz has claimed that undisputed welterweight best and pound-for-pound number one, Kamaru Usman would defeat any combination of Jiri Prochazka, as well as former champions, Glover Teixeira, and Jan Blachowicz to become the light heavyweight champion.

Kamaru Usman draws Leon Edwards in a title rematch at UFC 278 in August

Usman, who has spent the entirety of his UFC run as a welterweight, is set to return to the Octagon in the main event of UFC 278 on August 20. in Salt Lake City – rematching the surging #2 ranked, Leon Edwards in a bid to land successful title defense number six.

The Auchi native had previously detailed how he had intended to eventually skip a middleweight division move and move all the way to 205lbs – with sights fixed on clashing with the aforenoted, Blachowicz, before his title loss to Teixeira.

However, off the back of Teixeira’s own championship defeat against Czech Republic finisher, Prochazka at UFC 275 last Saturday, Abdelaziz claims Usman would defeat any of the trio to land his second Octagon title.

“I just rewatched the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship (fight), I believe @USMAN84kg (Kamaru Usman) will beat Jiri (Prochazka), Jan (Blachowicz) and Glover (Teixeira),” Ali Abdelaziz tweeted. “Not trash talking, but this is real.”

In a follow-up post, Abdelaziz claimed that Usman was never supposed to achieve welterweight spoils, and because he has, it gives him solace that he can land light heavyweight helpings.

“He (Kamaru Usman) wasn’t supposed to be here and he’s the king now (sunglasses emoji) (Nigerian flag emoji),” Ali Abdelaziz tweeted.

During his run as undisputed welterweight champion, Usman has managed to land five successful defenses of the throne – handing a pair of losses to both Jorge Masvidal, and Colby Covington, as well as a knockout win over former Sanford MMA training partner, Gilbert Burns.

A welterweight championship matchup between previous foes, Kamaru Usman, and Leon Edwards is now officially set to take place at UFC 278 on August 20. from the Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Initially meeting back in December 2015 at UFC Fight Night Orlando in a preliminary card matchup, undisputed welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman handed Leon Edwards a unanimous decision defeat over the course of three rounds.

Returning for the first time since November of last year where he headlined UFC 268 at Madison Square Garden in a title rematch against former interim champion, Colby Covington, Usman will attempt to land his sixth successful championship defense in his rematch against Edwards.

Leon Edwards is undefeated in 10 fights since his 2015 loss to Kamaru Usman

Undefeated since his 2015 loss to Kamaru Usman, Birmingham native, Edwards most recently defeated former lightweight title challenger, Nate Diaz in June of last year at UFC 263 – landing a unanimous decision win over the Stockton native after five rounds. The promotion confirmed the pairing between Usman and Edwards on the broadcast for UFC 275 in Singapore

In his first successful defense of the welterweight since his ascension to the throne in 2019, Usman managed to land a fifth round knockout win over Colby Covington – before then defeating Jorge Masvidal with a decision win, handing Gilbert Burns a knockout loss, and the finishing Masvidal in an April 2021 rematch.

For Edwards, the Team Renagade BJJ & MMA staple is currently in the midst of a 10 fight undefeated run at welterweight, landing an impressive victory over former undisputed lightweight champion, Rafael dos Anjos in that time to boot.

UFC 278 takes place on August 20. from the Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah – with a middleweight matchup featuring one-time title challenger, Paulo Costa, and former UFC and Strikeforce titleholder, Luke Rockhold also set to take place on the card.

Luke Rockhold Believes The System Failed Cain Velasquez; ‘So Pathetic How Twisted Our World Is’

Former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold will make his long-awaited return to the Octagon against Paulo Costa at UFC 278 in August.

Ahead of his return to the cage, Luke Rockhold spoke with MMA Fighting’s Damon Martin to discuss his preparation after nearly three years on the shelf. Training out of American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, CA, the same gym that Cain Velasquez calls home, the conversation eventually turned to the alleged shooting that has left Velasquez in jail without bail since March.

“It’s just hard to watch him grow and his family grow and you know, been through the years, the heartbreak and the amazing times we’ve had,” Rockhold said. “To see his family not have him over a system that has failed us is not fair. It sucks. It’s just not fair.”

On February 28, Velasquez is accused of firing multiple times at a vehicle carrying three individuals. One of them, the alleged target, Harry Goularte is currently facing child molestation charges. The victim was Velasquez’s four-year-old son according to investigators. Two days after his arrest, Goularte was released on bail. The next day, Velasquez would lead Goularte and two other individuals on a high-speed chase. Velasquez is said to have fired multiple shots into the car, hitting Goularte’s stepfather Paul Bender in the process.

While Goularte was granted bail, Velasquez has been denied bail during two separate hearings.

“Of course, Cain did not play a smart role in doing what he did, but the system is completely disgusting where they can allow a man [Goularte] to go free. Knowingly letting a guy free back to that situation. Once you molesting kids and then releasing them back to the premises of a daycare he lives on where he molested his children. What the f*ck? No bail? Allowing a person to go back to this situation on that standard. It’s like, so pathetic how twisted our world is and how pathetic things are.”

Luke Rockhold Believes Cain Velasquez Should Be Inducted Into The UFC Hall of Fame

Luke Rockhold said he has been pushing for Velasquez to be inducted into the 2022 class of the UFC Hall of Fame to honor the former champion and bring more attention to the heartbreaking situation he is currently facing.

“I think Cain should have been in the hall of fame a long time ago. One of the nastiest, most greatest champions of all time. I was trying to push for him to get his hall of fame bid this year to bring more attention to it.”

Velasquez is scheduled for a formal plea hearing on June 10. If found guilty, Velasquez could face life in prison.

UFC middleweight contender, Sean Strickland has claimed former division champion and once-scheduled opponent, Luke Rockhold is suffering from “severe brain damage” amid recent comments made by the latter regarding Strickland’s apparent defense of paedophilia.

Strickland, the current #4 ranked middleweight contender, was scheduled to share the Octagon with former UFC and Strikeforce middleweight champion, Rockhold back in November at UFC 268 in a main card clash at Madison Square Garden, however, the latter was forced from the bout due to a back injury.

Slated to return on July 2. at UFC 276 during International Fight Week, the North Carolina striker is booked to fight former two-weight GLORY Kickboxing champion, Alex Pereira in a potential title-eliminator at 185lbs.

For Rockhold, the Santa Cruz veteran has been sidelined since the summer of 2019, where he dropped a second round knockout loss against former division titleholder, Jan Blachowicz.

Booked to return at UFC 278 on August 20. in Salt Lake City, Rockhold returns in a high-stakes matchup against one-time middleweight title challenger, Paulo Costa.

Speaking on his dislike for his fellow contender, Stickland during a sit-down interview with former two-weight UFC champion, and teammate, Daniel Cormier – Rockhold claimed Strickland needed to be written off and supported paedophiles.

“I mean, he’s (Sean Strickland) out there supporting paedophiles,” Luke Rockhold. (He’s a) piece of crap. The guy needs to be written off.”

Sean Strickland speculates Luke Rockhold may be suffering from CTE

Reacting to Rockhold’s comments, Strickland, who recently saw his Twitter account suspended following continued flagrant tweets aimed at minorities and the transgender community, claimed that the former champion is likely suffering from “severe brain damage” following recent knockout losses.

“How much brain damage has this man taken?” Sean Strickland said of Luke Rockhold on his official Instagram story. “So whenever Luke Rockhold first started running his mouth about me, it made me upset, because a lot of what he was saying was untrue. We trained, I almost knocked him out, there were witnesses. And this whole supporting paedophiles thing – he’s almost like detached from reality.”

“Then I’m starting to realize the guy is 40-years-old and he’s been knocked out how many times?” Sean Strickland said. “I mean, viciously knocked out. Probably has severe brain damage, maybe some CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy) I don’t know, man. Maybe it’s time to hang up the gloves for good.”

Khabib Nurmagomedov, a former undisputed lightweight champion under the UFC banner, retired from the sport back in October 2020, submitting former interim titleholder, Justin Gaethje with a second round triangle to successfully unify the crowns.

For Rockhold, the former UFC and Strikeforce middleweight champion is slated to make his first Octagon walk since the summer of 2019 in a rescheduled UFC 278 clash against one-time division title challenger, Paulo Costa on August 20. in Salt Lake City.

The veteran Santa Cruz native was initially slated to meet with the Belo Horizonte striker at UFC 277 on July 30. in Dallas, Texas, however, the pairing has now been moved a month later due to currently undisclosed reasons

Rockhold was initially slated to feature at UFC 268 back in November at Madison Square Garden against Sean Strickland, however, a back injury forced the shelving of the matchup. Rockhold has yet to feature since a knockout defeat to former light heavyweight gold holder, Jan Blachowicz in 2019.

Khabib Nurmagomedov jokes about the grappling ability of Luke Rockhold

A decorated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu grappler, Rockhold, who holds an impressive eight career submission victories, found himself on the receiving end of a grappling masterclass by the dominant Khabib at their native American Kickboxing Academy base in San Jose, California – with Khabib poking fun at the former’s grappling ability, compared to his Sambo expertise.

“If Sambo was easy… itd be called Luke Rockhold,” Khabib Nurmagomedov said jokingly. “It’s okay. Ask Luke (Rockhold) what happened today. I just miss you, I hug you brother.” (Transcribed by Bloody Elbow)

In his most recent professional victory, Rockhold managed to land a second round submission to strikes win over former two-weight WSOF champion, David Branch in February 2017 in the main event of UFC Fight Night Pittsburg.

In his time away from the sport, Khabib has been continually linked with a return to active competition, particularly in the form of a potential future fight against fellow former undisputed lightweight kingpin, Charles Oliveira.
