Likely riding off into the proverbial sunset — veteran Stockton favorite, Nate Diaz manages to finish his Octagon deal on his own terms following UFC 279 — scoring a fourth round guillotine win over former interim lightweight titleholder, Tony Ferguson to close out tonight’s Las Vegas, Nevada headliner.
Diaz, who was initially scheduled to headline UFC 279 against co-main event feature, Khamzat Chimaev, picked up his first finish in the UFC since March 2015, where he finished former two-weight champion, Conor McGregor with a second round rear-naked choke.
Landing the first and likely second as well as third round against former interim titleholder, Ferguson, in a quite bizarre and unorthodox matchup to round out UFC 279, Diaz, who saw his own lead right leg chopped and plodded at throughout the fight, managed to turn the tables midway through the fourth.
Pouring on the pressure as Ferguson retreated to the fence, Nate Diaz drew a measly double-leg attempt from the latter, before pulling guard and latching onto a guillotine choke, tightening the submission and eventually forcing the tap.
Following his victory, Diaz, who has now completed his contractual obligations with the organization, confirmed that he plans to exit the UFC in over to “take over” another unnamed sport. However, insisted he would like to return to the promotion for a title shot in the future.

After 48 hours of chaos that saw much of the UFC 279 main card shuffled around, Khamzat Chimaev, the man responsible for much of the ruckus, stepped into the Octagon against the always entertaining Kevin Holland.
After the two fighters and their teams engaged in a backstage brawl leading to the cancellation of the UFC 279 press conference on Thursday night, Chimaev and Holland got the unique opportunity to abandon their previous opponents and settle things in the evening’s co-main event.
As both fighters came out, Holland reached out for a glove touch and Chimaev immediately grabbed ahold of him and rag-dolled Holland to the ground. Holland did a good job of defending and scrambling to stay out of danger, but Chimaev was relentless in his pace. Chimaev locked in a d’arce choke. Holland continued to roll and scramble, but Chimaev never let up. Holland had no choice, but to tap out at 2:13 in the first round.

Continuing his excellent run in a short notice, catchweight bout against welterweight contender, Li Jingliang — Californian striker, Daniel Rodriguez lands his fourth straight victory at UFC 279 with a close, split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) victory on the main card.
Rodriguez, who had been sidelined since August of last year where the handed former interim lightweight title challenger, Kevin Lee a one-sided unanimous decision loss, was originally slated to feature against Kevin Holland tonight at UFC 279.
Prevailing in his impromptu catchweight clash against Jingliang, Rodriguez likely gave up the opening round against the Chinese fighter, with two of three judges handing the latter a victory on their respective cards — as the duo traded leather over the course of three quite close, and ultra-competitive rounds.
