Demetrious Johnson UFC 285 Jon Jones GOAT

Former undisputed UFC flyweight champion, Demetrious Johnson has touted recently minted heavyweight champion, Jon Jones as the definitive greatest mixed martial artist of all time this week – complimenting his UFC 285 victory over Ciryl Gane.

Johnson, himself touted as one of the sports greatest ever, holds the record for most successful consecutive title defenses under the UFC banner – racking up a staggering eleven separate defenses of his undisputed flyweight throne.

Demetrious Johnson believes Jon Jones is now the certified sport GOAT

Discussing the conversation of sport greats following last weekend’s pay-per-view event, Johnson claimed that Jones’ victory over Gane – along with his esteemed success at light heavyweight, make him the undeniable greatest mixed martial artist of all time.

“I’ve had the longest consecutive title defense [record in the UFC], and I’ve also had 14 world title fights,” Demetrious Johnson told TMZ during a recent interview. “I believe he’s (Jon Jones) at 15 [straight title fight wins] now. You look at GSP (Georges St-Pierre), I think he took four years off and he fought in 2013 against Johny Hendricks. Then he came back in 2017 and beat Michael Bisping, who was a champion. You look at Anderson Silva, we’ve all done amazing things in mixed martial arts.”

“Jon Jones – what he did to Ciryl Gane Saturday night, I mean, he took him down and choked him out,” Demetrious Johnson explained. “I truly believe he could’ve done that at 205 [pounds]. The one thing that separates those guys from me, those guys gone up and competed and won a world championship in a different weight class, where I haven’t. Henry Cejudo’s done it, Jon’s done it, Randy Couture’s done it, the list just goes on and on of all the guys who have done it, and that’s one thing I haven’t done.”

Slated to return in May, Johnson is booked to headline ONE Fight Night 10 as part of ONE Championship’s first fight in the United States – taking on Adriano Moraes in the pair’s championship trilogy fight in Broomfield, Colorado.

Jon Jones Ciryl Gane Spine Popping UFC 285

Jon Jones has joked that he issued UFC 285 headliner, Ciryl Gane a “chiropractic adjustment” during their main event clash last weekend en route to his submission victory – stopping the Frenchman with a brutal guillotine choke win.

Taking main event honors in his first Octagon walk since February 2020, Jones ended a three-year plus hiatus in spectacular fashion, submitting Gane inside just two minutes of the opening frame of their UFC 285 headliner, snatching the vacant heavyweight championship to boot.

Adding to his prior two light heavyweight title reigns, Jones, who is now expected to return at UFC 290 during International Fight Week in July of this year, has been touted as the opponent to welcome former two-time heavyweight champion, Stipe Miocic to the Octagon in the summer.

Jon Jones claims he heard Ciryl Gane’s spine “popping” during UFC 285

Reflecting on his stunning stoppage of former interim heavyweight champion, Gane last Saturday night in ‘Sin City’ – Jones claimed he could audibly hear the former’s “spine popping” during his guillotine choke attempt.

“I locked it [the guillotine choke] up twice,” Jon Jones told Sports Illustrated following UFC 285. “The first time, I could hear his (Ciryl Gane) spine popping. I gave him a nice chiropractic adjustment.”

“The second time, he didn’t want that same ratchet on his neck,” Jon Jones explained. “And I put my arm on his neck and choked him out. I didn’t expect it to go that quickly. But that’s what we were looking for – the win, and domination.”

Stampeding to his fifth consecutive victory in his Octagon comeback last weekend, Jones added his submission of Gane to a second light heavyweight title win over Alexander Gustafsson, and subsequent consecutive title defenses against the trio of Anthony Smith, Thiago Santos, and Dominick Reyes.

Tristar MMA head coach and mixed martial arts tactician, Firas Zahabi has heaped praise on Jon Jones following his vacant heavyweight title victory at UFC 285 last weekend, as well as claiming the Endicott native would also defeat former titleholder, Francis Ngannou in a potential future fight.

Headlining UFC 285 last weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada, Jones managed to hand former interim heavyweight titleholder, Ciryl Gane in a main event bracket, stopping the Frenchman with a spectacular first round guillotine choke to land the vacant heavyweight crown.

Expected to fight former two-time undisputed heavyweight titleholder, Stipe Miocic at UFC 290 during International Fight Week in his first attempted title defense this summer, Jon Jones is targeted to make his return as soon as the opening week of July.

Firas Zahabi showers praise on Jon Jones following UFC 285 title triumph

Predicting a victory of Miocic with the help of God – Jones, who urged the Ohio native to take time away from his job as a firefighter to focus on the earmarked July showdown, has been picked to also defeat Cameroon knockout artist, Ngannou if they ever share the Octagon together by Tristar MMA mainstay, Zahabi.

“Jon (Jones) with one ab, beat Ciryl Gane – easy,” Firas Zahabi said on his YouTube channel. “And if they restarted that fight, I would pick Jon. If they restarted that fight 10 times, I would pick Jon. I think he’s levels above [everyone else].”

“And if he fights (Francis) Ngannou – call me crazy if you like, but he’s going to be beat Ngannou,” Firas Zahabi explained. “Not that he’s going to fight Ngannou – I don’t think that fight’s going to happen. But he beats Ngannou. And if he fights (Stipe) Miocic, I’m telling you guys now – I haven’t done a pre-fight analysis [yet] – he’ll beat Miocic. He’ll beat him.”

Reflecting on his own title victory over Gane, Jones claimed that he was destined to add to his light heavyweight spoils in his UFC return this month

“This isn’t a job to me,” Jon Jones said. “It is my life. It’s my identity. This is who I was intended to be in my mother’s womb. It’s my purpose. This is my destiny.”
