Jon Jones Francis Ngannou fight twice month UFC

Francis Ngannou may never step foot in a UFC Octagon again, but he assures MMA fans that the last thing on his mind before leaving the promotion was avoiding Jon Jones.

Nearly a week has passed since Jones took over the heavyweight division in his UFC return, and since then he and Ngannou have remained a topic of conversation.

Once Jones’ arm was raised at UFC 285, Francis Ngannou sent out a tweet which many have considered to be a backhanded compliment.

During the post-fight press conference, Jones had the tweet read to him, and he did not have a kind choice of words for his heavyweight counterpart.

Speaking yesterday with ESPN MMA’s Brett Okamoto, Francis Ngannou said that he is at peace with himself and is not concerned by Jones’ comments because he pursued that matchup before his departure.

“I did everything to have that fight. At the end it just felt like begging to keep me, and maybe do something that I don’t want. Yes I wanted that fight, but not at any cost.”

Ngannou was not amused by Dana White’s public comments stating that he avoided a fight with Jones.

He doubled down on the idea that the sole reason he parted ways with the UFC was due to the promotion failing to meet his contract demands on numerous occasions.

“I don’t care about what Dana White said, that was my call not his call.”

He once again took his thoughts to Twitter with videos of White’s change of heart which Francis Ngannou clearly felt was hypocritical.

Ngannou was seen watching Jones’ return against Ciryl Gane with his family in a positive manner and he says this is because he was simply a viewer just like everyone else, and he did not feel any differently after seeing Jones win.

Speaking with several promotions since his UFC exit, Ngannou said that fans should not look back and ponder at the matchup which never took place.

It seems as though the two colossal figures will never cross paths again, and Francis Ngannou is certain that the last thing on his mind was fearing Jones.

“There is not a fight on earth that I will back down from. He might be the best fighter ever, but he’s not the guy that I’m running away from.”

“I would fight Jon Jones twice a month.”

Although the two may have some unfriendly words for each other going forward, the bout is one that fans will have to look past, as Ngannou has his sights set on a professional debut in the boxing ring.

“I want to do one boxing match first, then maybe go back to MMA.”

Ngannou said that he had spoken to Eddie Hearn about a potential matchup with Anthony Joshua, but the majority of the conversation has been with Deontay Wilder’s team.

He dreams of a massive boxing event in Africa, and did not rule out the possibility of returning to MMA one day, as he also had talks with PFL and ONE FC.

Who do you think would have won between MMA’s all-time great and Francis Ngannou?

Jon Jones GOAT drug tests UFC 285 coach

Tristar MMA head coach, Firas Zahabi has disputed the consensus call of Jon Jones as the greatest mixed martial arts fighter of all time off the back of his UFC 285 heavyweight title victory earlier this month – pointing to the Endicott native’s prior failed drug tests.

Jones, a former two-time light heavyweight champion to boot, headlined UFC 285 last weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada – clinching the vacant heavyweight title with a dominant, first round guillotine choke submission win over former interim gold holder, Ciryl Gane

Locking his hands round the waist of Gane in the early goings of their main event clash, Jon Jones dragged the Frenchman to the ground – before scooting his way to the Octagon fence.

Fighting hands for some time, Jon Jones locked up a guillotine choke on Gane – forcing a rather timely tap on the MMA Factory Paris staple, minting himself as the heavyweight champion.

And off the back of his victory, Jones has been touted as both too much for former undisputed titleholder, Francis Ngannou – and former two-time titleholder, Stipe Miocic by Zahabi – with the latter expected to return fight Jones at UFC 290 in July.

“Jon (Jones) with one ab, beat Ciryl Gane – easy,” Firas Zahabi said on his YouTube channel. “And if they restarted that fight, I would pick Jon. If they restarted that fight 10 times, I would pick Jon. I think he’s levels above [everyone else].”

“And if he fights (Francis) Ngannou – call me crazy if you like, but he’s going to beat Ngannou,” Firas Zahabi explained. “Not that he’s going to fight Ngannou – I don’t think that fight’s going to happen. But he beats Ngannou. And if he fights (Stipe) Miocic, I’m telling you guys now – I haven’t done a pre-fight analysis [yet] – he’ll beat Miocic. He’ll beat him.”

Firas Zahabi disputes Jon Jones’ status as the GOAT

However, Jones, who had tested positive for a turinabol metabolite following an eventual official ‘No Contest’ against Daniel Cormier in 2017, has been ruled out of the GOAT debate by Zahabi – who claims he should have been slapped with a lifetime suspension from MMA.

“Jon Jones calls himself the GOAT,” Firas Zahabi said on his YouTube channel. “I hate to say it, he’s not the GOAT. You can’t fail drug tests and be the GOAT. If you guys ask me, can i put my vote in the hat? If you get caught on a banned substance – okay not weed or like they have some weird things on there – if you get caught with a hormone, I cthink you should be banned for life. It’s irreversible by the way, the University of Toronto they have a study on hormones and PEDs, and the effects are irreversible.”

The newly crowned UFC heavyweight champion once again sits atop the pound-for-pound rankings, but Jon Jones may not be here to stay.

A three-year hiatus and many new faces and champions in the UFC since Jones vacated his light heavyweight title, did not slow him down from submitting Ciryl Gane in just minutes, a fighter who’s never been finished before.

Speaking with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, his veteran coach Brandon Gibson did not hesitate at suggesting Jon Jones’ illustrious career may soon come to a close, regardless of his brief time at heavyweight.

“I think Jon’s (Jones) going to be one of those athletes that walks away early,” Gibson explained. “He’s going to walk away early, I think so. I think Jon will ride off into the sunset, and us, as MMA fans, will still be clamoring for one more or talking about potential matchups.”

This may come as a surprise to some, but during the UFC 285 post-fight press conference, both Dana White and Jon Jones himself said that they don’t really have a plan for the future, and all he knows is that he has at least one more fight left in him.

While he may only be 35, which is often a common age in the heavyweight division, Jones has been a recognizable face in the UFC since his debut in 2008, becoming the youngest-ever champion at 23, a record which still stands to this day.

Making easy work of several iconic UFC legends throughout his journey, with an incredible 15-0 record in UFC title fights, Jones has undoubtedly cemented himself as the greatest fighter we have ever seen.

As for who that next opponent may be, Jones made it clear in his post-fight scrum that he’s only thinking about a fight with Stipe Miocic, a man who he declared as the greatest heavyweight of all time.

Gibson says he and Jones’ team are in favour of this matchup, and fully support the idea of returning as soon as July.

“I think it would’ve been a different conversation if [Jones] would’ve been in any way injured or scathed on Saturday night, but he said he was more sore (sic) from the warmup than the fight.”

The now 40-year-old Miocic was in attendance at UFC 285 and he entertained the idea of fighting Jon Jones to regain his title, which was taken from him by Francis Ngannou in 2021.

When asked if defeating Miocic was worthy enough to hang up the gloves, Gibson says that although he thinks Jones will soon be retired, the mood within the camp is overly positive, and the possibilities of what’s to come are limitless.

“I don’t know. He has a lot of fire, I think he has a lot of motivation, and I’ll leave that up to Jon,” Gibson said. “I think this time away was really good for him, and us as a team.”

Will Jon Jones’ journey come to an end sooner than we think?

Daniel Cormier Jon Jones UFC 285 Commentary

Recently minted undisputed UFC heavyweight champion, Jon Jones has scoffed at past-foe and arch-rival, Daniel Cormier’s commentary and reaction to his championship win at UFC 285 – claiming the Louisana native could not even muster up a legitimate smile following his title-winning performance.

Jones, a former undisputed light heavyweight titleholder, holds a unanimous decision win over Cormier back in 2015, and fought the ex-two-weight champion to an official ‘No Contest’ in a 2017 title unification rematch.

Headlining UFC 285 last weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada – Jon Jones managed to clinch the vacant heavyweight title with a dominant first round submission win over former interim division champion, Ciryl Gane.

The victory came as Jones’ fifth consecutively since his official ‘No Contest’ against Cormier, however, despite attempting to bury the hatchet with the latter ahead of UFC 285, Jones has now claimed that Cormier could not even manage to show a sincere smile following his title win over Gane.

“My man (Daniel Cormier) couldn’t even pretend to smile,” Jon Jones tweeted. “It was pretty funny. Asking what happened, an experience (sic) former champion and analyst suddenly not being able to identify a guillotine.”

Reacting to claims from a fan that he was “bitter” following Jones’ title win over Gane, Cormier denied the accusation brought against him, claiming he could not see what had actually happened during the finishing sequence.

“Not bitter at all, legit couldn’t see what he (Ciryl Gane) had tapped to until we saw the different camera angle,” Daniel Cormier explained. “You guys sure can create things. I really don’t care either way, I’m here to call fights only.”

In the aftermath of Jones’ championship win, the promotion released footage of commentary trio, Jon Anik, Joe Rogan, and the aforenoted, Cormier reacting live to the Endicott native’s title-clinching finish.

Conor McGregor UFC The Ultimate Fighter 31 Michael Chandler fight

Details have emerged regarding last week’s alleged physical altercation between The Ultimate Fighter 31 coaches, Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler, with reports claiming a slap was thrown between the pair after a contestant on the reality television show was knocked unconscious during a tense bracket bout.

McGregor, a former undisputed lightweight and featherweight champion under the UFC banner – returned to Las Vegas last month to begin filming for TUF 31 against Chandler, with the duo serving as opposing coaches on the reality television show.

Sitting front and center at UFC 285 last weekend alongside his long-time partner, Dee Devlin and fellow Roadhouse star, Jake Gylenhaal, Conor McGregor was alleged to have been involved in a rather heated confrontation with Chandler as per UFC leader, Dana White – who elected against divulging any information on the spat.

(Michael) Chandler and Conor (McGregor) were very respectful to each other, and then some things started escalating that you’ll see on the show,” Dana White told assembled media following UFC 285. “They do not like each other now. A lot sh*t went down on Friday.

There was a lot of sh*t that went down on Friday, yeah,” White explained. “I don’t look at stuff that’s good for the show or things like that. Whatever happens, happens. The stuff that just happened shouldn’t have happened and I’m getting old. I would have been in there sooner back in the days, but not good.

NSAC required to intervene run-in between Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler

However, according to a report from Fansided MMA reporter, Amy Kaplan, a slap is alleged to have been thrown during McGregor’s altercation with Chandler, with officials from the Nevada State Athletic Commission required to corral the lightweight duo.

“Here’s what I learned about the McGregor/Chandler “indicent” that Dana was alluding to on Sat.” Kaplan tweeted. “Apparently, someone was KO’d and McGregor jumped in the cage, shoved Chandler, someone got slapped and the teams rushed the cage, NSAC broke it up.”

Both Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler have predicted respecitvely that they will “slice though” and “bludgeon” the other en route to a victory in an expected end-of-season clash between the two.
