Undisputed UFC middleweight champion, Alex Pereira took the opportunity to turn an impromptu gift of a Pikachu-themed denim jacket ahead of UFC 287, to once again troll and poke fun at former division titleholder, Israel Adesanya, ahead of this weekend’s championship rematch.

Pereira, the current undisputed middleweight champion under the Dana White-led banner, is slated to headline UFC 287 this weekend in Miami, Florida – rematching prior foe, Adesanya in a highly-anticipated title re-run.

Last time out, Pereira managed to scoop the undisputed middleweight crown with a spectacular fifth round finish of Adesanya in November at Madison Square Garden, with the Brazilian knocking out the defending champion with a slew of fifth round strikes for a TKO victory.

Alex Pereira holds three combat sports wins over Israel Adesanya

And ahead of this weekend’s championship rematch, Alex Pereira, who had previously trolled the City Kickboxing mainstay, Adesanya time and time again on social media – including alluding to the former champion’s impending death this weekend at UFC 287, sported a Pikachu-themed denim jacket to media day – poking fun at Adesanya’s interest in Pokémon.

Featuring in an interview with YouTuber, Nina Drama, Pereira was gifted several Pokémon-themed toys ahead of UFC 287, including a Pikachu plush toy, and a denim jacket – which he sported to Wednesday’s media day.

“Honestly, somebody just gifted it to me like ten minutes ago,” Alex Pereira said of his jacket during an interview with assembled media. “I liked it, I thought it was cool – and it matched my pants. Nothing set up, I really just got this ten minutes ago, and I think it matches my pants.”

Sharing a tense face-off at last night’s pre-fight press conference, Adesanya wore a dog collar to the event – claiming he was a “dog” who was waiting to be “unleashed” at UFC 287 on Saturday night – referencing the 2005 action film, Unleashed

Appearing at tonight’s pre-fight press conference ahead of UFC 287, former undisputed middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya sported a dog collar during the ceremonial festivities, claiming he will be “unleashed” in his Octagon return on Saturday.

Taking main event honors at UFC 287 this weekend at the Miami-Dade Arena in Florida, Adesanya, the current #1 ranked middleweight contender most recently headlined against incoming foe, Alex Pereira in the pair’s rivalry rekindling matchup last November.

Seeing his reign atop the undisputed middleweight throne come to a crashing end at Madison Square Garden last November, Nigerian-Kiwi striker, Adesanya was stopped in the fifth and final round by challenger, Pereira, with the Brazilian unloading with a barrage of strikes at the Octagon fence, securing a TKO finish.

And ahead of this weekend’s championship rematch in the ‘Sunshine State’ – Adesanya was questioned regarding the item of clothing sported around his neck at tonight’s press conference, as he wore a tightened dog collar.

“It’s a dog collar,” Israel Adesanya told assembled media at the UFC 287 press conference. “I’m a dog and I’m about to be unleashed.”

“F*ck the belt,” Israel Adesanya explained. “I’m going to rip his [Alex Pereira] head off. I’m a dog on a leash, and I’m about to be let loose.”

Vowing to snap his run of three consecutive losses to Sao Paulo striker, Pereira across their respective combat sports careers, Adesanya claimed he would “butcher” and then “beat the f*ck out of” the defending champion when they share the Octagon for a second time this weekend.

Israel Adesanya had defended his title on five separate occasions

Prior to his title loss last year, Adesanya had defended the title against Yoel Romero, Paulo Costa, Marvin Vettori, Robert Whittaker, and Jared Cannonier.

Israel Adesanya vows to butcher beat the f*ck out of Alex Pereira at UFC 287

Israel Adesanya was caught doing a bit of daydreaming during his UFC 287 media appearance this week.

The Last Stylebender’ is scheduled for a high-stakes rematch with Alex Pereira, the man he’s failed to defeat on three separate occasions thus far. Adesanya will enter the Octagon on Saturday night for what he believes will be his last chance at redemption with UFC gold hanging in the balance.

Going into what he considers his ‘8 Mile’ moment, Israel Adesanya was caught doing a bit of daydreaming, imagining how the world, and himself, would react should he turn the world on its axis and dominate Alex Pereira at Miami-Dade Arena.

“This is my Eminem moment. My ‘8 Mile’ moment. You get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow. This opportunity comes once in a lifetime and this is it, Adesanya said during a UFC 287 media event. “This is it for me. Imagine if I get it done. What if I get it done better than he’s ever done it? What if I butcher him and beat the f*ck out of him? Because I always do, but I just ramp it up now. I don’t let him get any breath and I take him out. I put him on his back. We’ll find out. I do all this sh*t and I beat his a**. Do some damage to him and it’s just like, ‘Wow. Amazing.’”

Israel Adesanya is Ready to Settle the Score at UFC 287

To Israel Adesanya’s credit, he has looked very good throughout his contests against Alex Pereira under the GLORY Kickboxing and UFC banners, up until the moment he’s rendered unconscious. In their UFC 281 clash, ‘Stylebender’ nearly finished Pereira in the closing seconds of the first round and was mere minutes away from a decision victory before Pereira turned up the heat and delivered a shocking fifth-round KO to capture the UFC middleweight title.

However, Adesanya is not living in the past. He’s not thinking about what could have been. He doesn’t care about what came before. He is only focused on what lies ahead.

“I don’t keep score, I settle them and he who laughs last laughs best,” Adesanya concluded.

Jorge Masvidal beat Leon Edwards over the head with belt UFC 287

Jorge Masvidal has plotted for the future and plans to fight his bitter foe Leon Edwards in England.

Since capturing the world’s attention and headlining a sold-out Madison Square Garden for a one-off BMF belt against Nate Diaz, ‘Gamebred’ has certainly had an eventful timeline.

Unfortunately for the Miami native, he is currently riding a three-fight losing streak, including the first knockout loss of his career to the hands of former champion, Kamaru Usman, in a devastating fashion.

Jorge Masvidal went on to lose a unanimous decision in a personal grudge match against Colby Covington, and even suffered criminal charges afterwards in an shocking event which took place in Florida.

The 38-year-old welterweight is scheduled to fight a dangerous Brazilian this weekend at UFC 287, and his newfound aura is of a confident and refurbished fighter.

Jorge Masvidal claims he is not looking past Gilbert Burns, but he is determined to make an example out of current champion Edwards.

The two fighters have had a viral physical encounter following Masvidal’s violent knockout over Darren Till in London.

A fight between the two seemed inevitable to occur in the octagon, but it never came to fruition.

Now that the roles have flipped, Jorge Masvidal is urgently seeking a final opportunity at UFC gold in his veteran career.

Jorge Masvidal plots future fight with rival, Leon Edwards

During the UFC 287 media day, the #11 ranked welterweight spoke of his current ambitions.

“I never underestimate anybody that has two hands and two feet,” Jorge Masvidal answered. “But, I don’t stop thinking about also that after this fight I’m going to England. I’m gonna use that belt to beat it over Leon’s head and then come back to this great country and defend that belt. So it’s not something that I don’t think of, it’s in the back of my mind definitely.”

As Masivdal prepares to pull off a big upset as a +350 underdog against Burns, Dana White has made it clear that Covington will likely be the next to challenge ‘Rocky’ for his title.

Although he may have lost to Covington, Masvidal believes with a win this weekend UFC fans will be much happier to see him in the cage with Edwards.

“First is Gilbert. Eliminate him in impressive fashion, and there’ll be talk of nobody else fighting for nothing else but me, you know? Last I checked, UFC’s a PPV selling business. B***h-a** Colby ain’t never broke 300,000 PPVs in his life except when he fought me. Leon’s not a PPV draw. All of a sudden, what, they’re just putting on events to put them on? I don’t think so. So as long as I do my job Saturday, everything else will fall into place.”

Will Masvidal pull off a massive upset this weekend?

Alex Pereira offers to fight Paulo Costa next after UFC 287

Ahead of UFC 287 this weekend, undisputed middleweight champion, Alex Pereira has voiced his interest in a potential future title outing against fellow Brazilian powerhouse, Paulo Costa, however, is less than interested in fighting the undefeated welterweight force, Khamzat Chimaev.

Headlining this Saturday’s pay-per-view event in Miami, Florida – Sao Paulo striker, Pereira is set to take on former undisputed middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya in an immediate championship rematch.

Clinching divisional gold back in November of last year at UFC 281 in Madison Square Garden, Pereira managed to win the undisputed middleweight title inside just four fights, stopping arch-rival, Adesanya with a stunning fifth round rallying TKO victory over the City Kickboxing staple at the Octagon fence.

Alex Pereira offers to take on fellow Brazilian, Paulo Costa next

Booked to headline UFC 287 this weekend in an immediate title re-run with the Nigerian-Kiwi – Pereira has knocked back a potential fight with the aforenoted, Chimaev, however, welcomes the opportunity to fight the likes of former undisputed titleholder, Robert Whittaker, as well as Belo Horizonte native and #5 ranked contender, Costa next, instead.

“This week, I’m obviously focused on Israel (Adesanya), but talk about [Robert] Whittaker, and Paulo Costa,” Alex Pereira told assembled media during his availability on Wednesday. “I know they want to fight me. They were never disrespectful. They always kept their composure, but when you talk about [Khamzat] Chimaev, he’s the kind of guy that seems to be a little lost, he talks too much.”

“Right after my last fight, he said that he wanted to fight me at this weight class,” Alex Pereira said. “He knows it was right after the fight, everybody’s injured. I could not make that weight so I challenged him to a fight at 205 [pounds]. He ran. To be honest, if it’s Whittaker or Paulo Costa, if the organization wants to put us to fight, it’s my job to fight as UFC champion, but I don’t even want to talk about Chimaev.”

Rebounding to the winner’s enclosure back in August of last year at UFC 278, Costa, who recently inked a reportedly lucrative contract with the promotion, turned in a unanimous decision win over former undisputed middleweight champion, Luke Rockhold in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Alex Pereira

Sean O’Malley suggested that Alex Pereira‘s insane weight cut ahead of UFC 287 could result in him finally surrendering a loss to Israel Adesanya.

Alex Pereira shocked the world in November when he scored a fifth-round knockout against ‘The Last Stylebender’ to capture the UFC middleweight championship. Months before stepping into the Octagon for their UFC 281 showdown, ‘Poatan’ revealed that he weighed 105.6kg, which is just under 233 lbs. In order to hit the middleweight limit of 185, Pereira had to cut nearly 50 lbs. The towering Brazilian powerhouse is likely looking at a very similar weight cut going into their highly anticipated rematch this Saturday night at Miami-Dade Arena.

Sean O’Malley Expects Israel Adesanya to Wrestle Alex Pereira in Rematch

Discussing the UFC 287 headliner on the Timbo Sugar Show podcast, Sean O’Malley believes that Alex Pereira’s extreme weight-cutting could be his downfall, especially if he’s still attempting to cut 20+ pounds during fight week.

“How much weight is (Pereira) cutting? Izzy really doesn’t have to land clean too many times if he’s cutting that much weight,” O’Malley said. “That motherf*cker’s cutting 20 pounds, 25 pounds. Fight week, your chin goes, your brain fluid (goes).”

“I think (Adesanya will) come out and wrestle,” O’Malley added. “I feel like he’s going to come out, he’s got a couple maybe good takedowns, come out (and) wrestle, put him on his back, really get him thinking. Maybe (Pereira) won’t be able to march forward as much” (h/t Current Sportz)

Many expected Adesanya to put his wrestling skills to work in their first meeting last November, but ‘Stylebender’ opted to keep the fight standing. It nearly paid off for him as he clipped Pereira toward the end of the opening round. Going into the fifth round, it appeared as though Adesanya would escape with a unanimous decision victory. That was until Alex Pereira turned up the heat and delivered a barrage of strikes, forcing referee Marc Goddard to step in and call for the stoppage.

Going into the bout believing this is his last chance to settle the score, Israel Adesanya may attempt a different path to victory, putting his wrestling skills to the test. That could very well be his best chance at finally solving the puzzle that is Alex Pereira.
