Ian Garry provides bleak update on health after UFC 296 exit I can barely breathe

Forced out of his return to the Octagon this weekend at UFC 296, undefeated welterweight contender, Ian Garry has claimed he can “barely breathe” after he was diagnosed with pneumonia ahead of his return, ruling him from a fight with perennial contender, Vicente Luque.

Garry, the current number ten ranked welterweight contender, was slated to feature on the main card of UFC 296 this weekend against Brazilian-American challenger, Luque, however, has since been ruled from the bout.

Failing to appear at media day obligations on Wednesday earlier this week, Garry, 26, was confirmed as out of his fight with Luque by promotional president, Dana White, who revealed the Portmarnock native was dealing with flu-like symptoms, which later developed into pneumonia.

Voicing his displeasure at his removal from the bout, former Team KF staple, Garry claimed it was UFC medical staff and doctor’s which forced his withdrawal from a fight with training partner, Luque, not a decision he had made himself.

Ian Garry voices disappointment at UFC 296 exit

And jibed at – alongside his wife and manager, Layla Anna-Lee overnight by incoming UFC 296 headliner and welterweight title challenger, Colby Covington – who hinted at apparent infidelity from the latter, Garry has provided a worrying update on his current condition and health as he recovers from pneumonia.

“How are we, I can barely breathe,” Ian Garry told TNT Sports. “It’s upsetting, it’s irritating, it’s annoying. ‘Cause you guys know I love to fight more than anything. And I’ve never pulled out of a fight, I’ve never had to be in this situation, but here we are. And we’ll deal with it the way we deal with everything: the best in the world.”

“I mean, the truth is – I’ve got what I’ve got, we’ll deal with it,” Ian Garry explained. “And then we’ll get back on the horse and then we’ll fight. …But yeah, I just wanna let you guys know, that I’m good – and I’m coming for everybody with a full head of steam.”

Colby Covington

As expected, Colby Covington garnered most of the attention at the UFC 296 press conference on Thursday evening.

Dressed like he was attending a 2nd-grade Revolutionary War reenactment, Covington stepped on the stage with plenty of ammunition for his opposition on Saturday night, Leon Edwards. However, the most interesting, and perhaps bizarre moment of the press event came when Covington exchanged a series of verbal jabs with Tony Ferguson before quickly deciding they were going to go back to being bros.

It all began as Colby Covington was dominating the mic and admonishing his fellow fighters on the panel. Taking exception, Ferguson chimed in saying, “F*ck you, Colby. I’m the main event, dog. I’m more American than you.”

“This Benedict Arnold motherf*cker,” Covington responded. “Damn Tony, I was rooting for you. I like America. I’m still gonna root for you even if you’re an American douchebag. Just don’t go out there and lose seven fights in a row.”

Their profanity-laced exchange continued with a minute-long back and forth that included Covington taking jabs at Ferguson’s knockout loss to Michael Chandler and slamming their respective weight classes. Ferguson also told Covington to “Get Trump’s s*ck out of your mouth” before they both decided to squash their beef over a mutual love of America.

Fans Left Confused by Colby Covington’s Awkward Exchange with Tony Ferguson

Fans were understandably confused by the strange turn of events with one saying, “That was the most odd back and forth I’ve ever witnessed.”

Literally quite possibly the most American thing ever,” another added.

Uniting Colby Covington and Tony Ferguson at UFC 296 will be their British opposition. ‘El Cucuy’ will look to snap a six-fight win streak dating back to 2019 when he meets Liverpudlian standout Paddy ‘The Baddy’ Pimblett.

In the main event of the evening, Covington will step into the Octagon for his third welterweight title fight after coming up short in his first two attempts to claim gold against then-champion Kamaru Usman. This time, ‘Chaos’ will be tasked with taking out Leon Edwards who bested the ‘Nigerian Nightmare’ in back-to-back bouts, successfully capturing and defending the 170-pound crown.

Colby Covington hits out at Stephen Thompson he should be on a community notice list UFC 296

Unleashing a vicious tirade aimed at opponent, Leon Edwards, and fellow welterweight contender, Ian Garry ahead of UFC 296 this weekend, Colby Covington also hit out at former title challenger, Stephen Thompson, alluding to apparent predatory nature from the fan-favorite Simpsonville striker at last night’s pre-fight press conference.

Covington, a former interim welterweight champion, headlines UFC 296 this weekend against incumbent gold holder, Edwards, in the pair’s heated grudge match for the division’s undisputed crown.

And hitting out at the Birmingham native in a vicious barb mocking the champion’s late father, who was shot dead inside a London nightclub when Edwards was 13 years old, Covington was struck in the face with a water bottle as a result.

Furthermore, the Clovis native also hit out at unbeaten welterweight striker, Garry, accusing the Dublin native’s wife and manager, Layla Anna-Lee of infidelity and labelling the latter a “hoe” which Garry should not have turned into a “housewife”.

Prior to that, however, MMA Masters trainee, Covington hit out at the above-mentioned, Thompson – who takes on the undefeated finishing ace, Shavkat Rakhmonov in a high-stakes main card clash at UFC 296.

“Hey, I got to be honest, Stephen (Thompson) shouldn’t be on the top 10 list, he shouldn’t be on the pound-for-pound list, but he should be on the list that all the community knows about,” Colby Covington said at last night’s pre-fight press conference ahead of UFC 296”

“I’m not saying he’s a p*dophile but, man, he checks all the boxes,” Colby Covington continued.

Sidelined since March of last year, the hugely-outspoken, Covington, who was largely criticized for his outlandish and abrasive tirade, most recently turned in a one-sided unanimous decision win over former two-time title challenger, Jorge Masvidal

Former interim welterweight champion, Colby Covington hit out at fellow division contender, Ian Garry from the get-go of his appearance at last night’s UFC 296 pre-fight press conference, accusing the Dubliner’s wife and manager, Layla Anna-Lee of infidelity.

Covington, the current number three ranked welterweight contender and incoming title challenger, headlines UFC 296 this weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada – taking on undisputed champion, Leon Edwards in a championship affair.

As for Garry, the unbeaten number ten ranked division contender was initially scheduled to feature in a main card clash against training partner and perennial contender, Vicente Luque this weekend, however, a battle with pneumonia forced the Portmarnock striker from the main card clash.

And failing to appear during Wednesday’s media availability, prior to his withdrawal from the card, Garry was the subject of jibes at his personal life and relationship with Anna-Lee – whom serves as the former Cage Warriors champion’s manager.

Hitting out at Garry in the early stages of last night’s press conference, Covington accused Anna-Lee of infidelity, questioning who in appearance at the presser had slept with the latter.

In between a hugely-critcized barb aimed at Edwards, in which Covington claimed the Brimingham native’s late father, who was shot and killed in a London nightclub when the champion was 13 years old, was residing in hell, the Clovis native issued another warning to Garry.

“I was going to teach him (Ian Garry) a lesson you know, just like I taught Leon (Edwards) a lesson,” Colby Covington explained. “You don’t cross the boss, he tried to cross the boss and call the shots and he couldn’t do it. The same lesson I’m gonna teach Ian, you don’t make a h*e a housewife.”

Leon Edwards hits Colby Covington with water bottle after mocking late father's death ahead of UFC 296

Tensions reached beyond boiling point tonight between UFC 296 headliners, champion, Leon Edwards and former interim gold holder, Colby Covington – with the Birmingham native throwing a water bottle at the latter – who mentioned the defending champion’s late father, and alluding to the fact he resided in hell following his passing.

Edwards, the current undisputed welterweight titleholder, headlined UFC 286 back in March most recently, turning in a close, majority decision win over former undisputed champion and common-foe, Kamaru Usman in the pair’s trilogy rubber match.

As for Clovis native, Covington, the former interim champion has been sidelined since he landed a one-sided unanimous decision win over former two-time title chaser, Jorge Masvidal back in March of last year.

And appearing at tonight’s pre-fight press conference ahead of UFC 296, Covington – sporting regalia reminiscent of inaugural United States president, George Washington, former interim titleholder Covington mentioned Edwards late father, claiming he would introduce him to the parent when he drags him to a proverbial hell this weekend in the pair’s championship fight.

Immediately reacting to Covington’s comments, Edwards launched a water bottle in the direction of his incoming foe, striking him, before UFC security and officials corralled the duo, separating them before a further physical scuffle.

Goading a visibly upset Edwards, Covington was accused of crossing the proverial line with his jibe aimed at the former’s late father.

Colby Covington hits out at LeBron James go to China go to your sweatshops

Colby Covington stokes the flames on a previous feud with NBA star Lebron James ahead of UFC 296.

It’s a Covington fight week, so you can expect personal attacks on a whole list of people. ‘Chaos’ will often use the bigger spotlight to attempt to grab headlines and further push his personality.

This time Covington came at one of the biggest sports stars in the world, Lebron James.

“If you hate America so much and you don’t like this country that gave you a billion dollars, leave it, or come deal with me. Go to China, go to these sweatshops that employ all these laborers, use these women, and pay pennies on the dollar to make your millions… F*** you, LeBron James, you’re a coward, you’re a spineless coward, and you’re a b****.”

Colby Covington’s previous attack on Lebron James

While Covington can say a lot of stuff that is untrue, or a clear part of his shtick he did have a good point when talking about James. Colby Covington had previously taken shots at James over his silence over the Chinese Governments committing ongoing human rights abuses against Uyghur Muslims.

China has close ties with the NBA, and James has also been known to stand for injustices such as the BLM cause.

“Just a big hypocrite, Covington said of James. “He talks about his two biggest things he loves to talk about equality and justice. Where’s the equality of employing women in Chinese sweatshops to make your merchandise for millions of dollars while they’re making pennies? Where’s the equality in that?

“Where’s the justice in critiquing the greatest country on God’s green Earth America but not talking about Hong Kong, not talking about the Uyghurs in China? He stays silent on everything in China because he’s a Chinese puppet master.”
