Chael Sonnen hints at run-in with Jorge Masvidal at UFC 299 I'll be in a suit he'll be a thug with a hood up

Following an unexpected call out from former title challenger, Jorge Masvidal to his fellow UFC alum, Chael Sonnen earlier this week, the Oregon native has hinted a potential coming together with the Floridian next weekend at UFC 299 – issuing his own barb to boot.

Sonnen, a former undisputed middleweight and light heavyweight championship challenger under the banner of the UFC, called time on his combat sports career back in 2019, following a summer knockout loss to former UFC light heavyweight kingpin, Lyoto Machida with the pair competing under the Bellator MMA banner.

And receiving a stark call out from Miami veteran, Masvidal this week, Sonnen was offered the chance to meet the former welterweight title chaser inside the boxing ring – with the former eyeing a move to the squared circle later this annum.

“I can’t stand that lesbian-looking transitional b*tch, Chael Sonnen,” Jorge Masvidal said. “And no offence to lesbians because there’s some hot, cool-ass lesbians out there, it’s just him with them glasses and that haircut – he just, he looks like he’s in transition.”

“I would love to bust up Chael, but he would never get into a boxing ring with me,” Jorge Masvidal explained. “…Chael would be one guy that I would love to f*cking break his eye orbital. Just because he’s a cheating f*ck. Like, if you – he’s gotten caught with more substances in his body, than any other competitor in the history. At one time, he had six or seven different substances in his body for one of his title fights. It’s like, you’re a f*cking piece of sh*t human being. …Do all the steroids you want, it don’t matter, I’m still gonna break your eye orbital, bro.”

Chael Sonnen responds to Jorge Masvidal in brutal fashion

However, issuing his own response to Masvidal, Sonnen hinted at a potential run-in with the former at UFC 299 next weekend at the Kaseya Center in Miami – before mocking the former’s appearance and apparent dress sense.

“I will not let him get close,” Chael Sonnen said on his YouTube channel. “I cannot trust Jorge Masvidal. Jorge Masvidal will be in Miami next week, where I will be. I will be the person in the nice trimmed suit. I assume he will be the thug with a up. …”

What do you make of Jorge Masvidal’s beef with Chael Sonnen?

Benoit Saint-Denis plots future fight with Charles Oliveira after UFC 299 I want to submit him

UFC lightweight Benoit Saint-Denis sets his sights on battling the division’s biggest game in their own arena.

In just six UFC fights, Saint-Denis now finds himself facing off with No.3 ranked Dustin Poirier and one win away from the very peak of the sport. What makes it even more impressive is Saint-Denis only started training in 2017, a year in which Poirier would defeat both Jim Miller and Anthony Pettis.

However, this gap in experience does not phase Saint-Denis in the slightest, already feels like he is able to beat the very best that 155lb has to offer. A former soldier in the French Special Forces, Saint-Denis has taken this elite mindset and applied it to MMA. The 27-year-old is committed to building a well-rounded arsenal which could match anything that an opponent has to offer.

Benoit Saint-Denis eyes Charles Oliveira scrap

Talking with Middleeasy, Saint-Denis would expose his highly competitive nature and passion for the sport. The Frenchman stated that he wants to beat the division’s very best using their own skillset.

“I try to train as hard and with as much intelligence as I can, having a great channel to become a better fighter in every art of mixed martial arts,” said Saint-Denis.

“I want to submit [Charles] Oliveira, I want to knock out Justin Gaethje, and I want to win a tactical fight against [Islam] Makhachev. I want to be in the best shape and as dangerous as possible in every aspect of the fight and to win those fights.”

Benoit Saint-Denis and Dustin Poirier are set to do battle in the co-main event slot of UFC 299 over five-rounds. If their past performances are anything to go off, the contest is set to be a tear-up which could see both men put in some difficult positions.

Who wins, Dustin Poirier or Benoit Saint-Denis?

Sean O'Malley vows to stop Marlon Vera at UFC 299 I'll put him away inside three rounds

Undisputed bantamweight champion, Sean O’Malley has vowed to turn in a dominant victory over incoming title chaser and former foe, Marlon Vera in their title rematch at UFC 299 later this month – predicting a finish of the Ecuadorian inside just three rounds in Miami, Florida.

O’Malley, the current undisputed bantamweight champion, has been sidelined since he headlined UFC 292 back in August of last year in Boston, snatching the divisional crown in a stunning second round KO win over record-setting champiion, Aljamain Sterling.

On that same card, the aforenoted, Vera turned in his own triumph, in the form of decision success against common-foe, Pedro Munhoz – earning him a rematch with Montana native, O’Malley.

First fighting back in 2020 at the UFC Apex facility, O’Malley suffered his first and only professional defeat so far, with Vera landing a first round ground strikes TKO win.

Headlining UFC 299 later this month at the Kaseya Center in ‘The Sunshine State’, O’Malley has vowed to avenge that beating at the hands of Chone native, Vera – and in quite resounding fashion in the form of a knockout win inside 15 minutes.

“He’s (Marlon Vera) kinda peaked – I’m better than this due,” Sean O’Malley told MMA Fighting. “I’m going to go out there and do what I was about to do to him [back in 2020], and put his lights out. He’s good, he’s tought, he’s very durable, but that doesn’t get the job done against me. You can’t just be tough, you can’t just be durable. I believe I’m more skilled, faster, more accurate, and I’m going to go out there and I just feel confident standing in front of him.”

“Mentally, physically, emotionally, I’m preparing for 25 minutes,” Sean O’Malley explained. “I’m preparing to leave there limping, leave there sore, leave there with my hand hurt from his head. SO – preparing for the worst, but realistically, I’m putting this dude’s lights out within three [rounds].”

Do you expect Sean O’Malley to avenge his loss to Marlon Vera at UFC 299?

Dustin Poirier claims Nate Diaz fight will never happen in UFC I don't see our paths crossing

Dustin Poirier seems to have accepted that a fight against Nate Diaz is unlikely to ever happen.

Poirier and Diaz have gone back-and-forth for years at this point and a fight between the pair once had the potential to be highly entertaining. The pair were once scheduled to face one another at UFC 230, but the fight was eventually cancelled.

Since then the callouts have been relentless from both sides, going at it on social media and media appearance, but still not fighting. While appearing on The MMA Hour, Dustin Poirier discussed a potential Diaz fight but appears to have moved on from it despite the personal history.

“The Nate one’s gonna get away, and I don’t know how many fights I have left — I think six with the UFC,” Poirier said. “He’s moving on to boxing and stuff. I just don’t see how our paths will cross. But I just wanted to fight this guy because I grew up watching him.” (H/T MMA Fighting)

“I would have liked it to happen, but I would really like for the UFC or for Nate to be honest and tell the truth about why that fight fell apart because everybody still thinks I pulled out and all this.”

Poirier would also explain that it was not in fact due to an injury that their previous fight had to be cancelled, instead points the finger at Diaz.

Dustin Poirier talks failed Nate Diaz scrap

“He was playing a bunch of games with the UFC,” Poirier said. “They started off offering me replacement opponents, telling me was off the card. I had a hip problem going on. I let the UFC know.

“Everyone knew I was gonna fight if it was him. If they use a replacement fighter, I’m out. I’ll fight if it’s him, and I’ll push through this training camp, I’m fine, but I need to get this taken care of. And when they started offering replacement opponents, I was like, ‘I’m not fighting these replacement guys.’”

In their primes, who would have won: Nate Diaz or Dustin Poirier?

Dustin Poirier reveals reason he chose to fight at UFC 299 instead of UFC 300: ‘This just made more sense’

Dustin Poirier was hoping to be part of UFC 300 on April 13.

Instead, ‘The Diamond’ will step into the co-main event spotlight a month earlier when the promotion returns to Miami, Florida for UFC 299. Poirier is set to square off with rising lightweight contender Benoit Saint-Denis at the event, but many fight fans were still confused as to why the bout was booked for March 9 when Poirier had already expressed interest in being part of the promotion’s next big landmark event.

Appearing on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Poirier cleared up the confusion by confirming that it was he, not the UFC, who insisted the bout go down at UFC 299.

“They offered me this fight for 300,” Poirier said. “I was talking with Hunter (Campbell). We were like, maybe the opening of the pay-per-view, maybe the second fight of the pay-per-view. And then 299 we started talking about, and to be the co-main event, that’s a much bigger slot. It’s close to my training camp, it’s close to home. From New Orleans, straight flight to Fort Lauderdale or to Miami, so it’s easy to do for people.

“I wanted to be part of 300, but this just made more sense I think,” Poirier continued. “Yeah, (it was my call). They did, they offered it” (h/t MMA News).

Dustin Poirier Fight the Biggest of Benoit Saint-Denis’ career

Last Week, Poirier gave everyone a scare when he claimed that the contest was no longer on the docket for 299. Four hours later, he retracted his statement feigning a miscommunication between him and his manager.

The fight will serve as a massive step up in competition for Saint-Denis who currently sits as the No. 12 ranked lightweight versus Poirier who occupies the No. 3 spot. That’s not to say the ‘God of War’ hasn’t earned his opportunity. Saint-Denis is riding a five-fight win streak inside the Octagon, including victories over Thiago Moisés and Matt Frevola in his last two outings.

Dustin Poirier, on the other hand, will be looking to bounce back after suffering a second-round head kick KO against Justin Gaethje in their long-awaited rematch at UFC 291 in July.

Bellator middleweight champion and teammate of Dustin Poirier discusses the ‘The Diamonds’ recent contractual issues.

Fans were thrilled, if not a little surprised when the UFC announced that they had made a fight between No.3 Dustin Poirier and No.11 Benoit Saint Dennis. Poirier is a future hall of famer and was potentially expected to take a higher profile fight, rather than taking on the dangerous Frenchman who has had just six UFC fights.

However, the mouth-watering affair was temporarily off after Poirier had tweeted that the fight was off and in fact was never officially signed in the first place. And just a short time later Poirier announced that it was just a ‘misunderstanding’ and everything seemed to be resolved.

Dustin Poirier’s teammate delves into UFC 299 fall out

Teammate of Poirier, Eblen spoke with SHAK MMA and discussed the situation, revealing the UFC did not meet Poirier’s terms despite the American agreeing to the idea of the fight.

“I know Dustin pretty well, and I actually spoke with him about it today,”  Johnny Eblen began. “They just didn’t come to terms, man. The things that Dustin laid out for them that they need to provide for this fight they were not willing to do it.”

“I just think it’s kind of horse s*** because I know how much money the UFC makes and they could make that fight happen but they’re choosing not to because they’re being stingy in a way. The fact that no contract was signed and they were willing to f****** announce it is f****** beyond me, man. That’s never happened to me. Not even a verbal agreement, Dustin said.

“Dustin said, ‘Yeah, that sounds good, but like, we gotta get this deal worked out. That’s not a verbal agreement, Eblen continued. A verbal agreement’s like, ‘Hey, if you do this, this, and this, I’m in,’ and they’re like, ‘Okay, we’ll do this, this, and this.’ Okay, cool, I’ll fight him. Then you do the contract and you sign the contract. There wasn’t even a verbal agreement on his end. It’s kind of crazy to me that they were willing to even promote it to this degree and then let it backfire like this.”
