Ian Garry reacts to fan hate after UFC 303 win my name will be in that GOAT conversation

Unbeaten welterweight striker, Ian Garry has claimed in 10 years’ time, his name will be mentioned amongst some of the greatest fighters of all-time, after fans hit out at him for a lacklustre performance en route to victory against Michael ‘Venom’ Page.

Garry, the current number seven ranked welterweight contender, featured on the main card of UFC 303 during International Fight Week over the course of the weekend, landing a unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) triumph against former Bellator MMA championship challenger, Michael ‘Venom’ Page.

And hit with criticizm for his performance – which included a slew of grappling exchanges and close call submission attempts, Portmarnock native, Garry defended his display, and played up his chances of landing himself in the debate of the greatest fighters of all time in the future.

“I am on my road to destiny to be one of the greatest of all time,” Ian Garry told assembled media after UFC 303. “I’m going to do that by any means necessary, and I don’t care how it gets done. In 10 years’ time, my name is going to be in that GOAT conversation. Who’s the greatest of all time? You’re going to say Jon Jones, GSP (Georges St-Pierre), Anderson Silva, Ian Garry.”

“I’m going to have my name in that conversation because it’s opinion-based,” Ian Garry explained. “If you’re Brazilian, you’ll say Anderson Silva, if you’re American, you might say Jon Jones. We could all sit here and have all of our opinions. As long as my name is in that conversation, I’ve had a successful career.”

Earlier this year, Garry featured at UFC 298 back in February, turning in a split decision win over Geoff Neal – and landed his eighth straight victory in the promotion with his win over Page, eclipsing former duel-weight champion, Conor McGregor’s longest winning spree in the organization.

Do you think Ian Garry can become one of the greatest fighters of all-time?

Polyana Viana gushes over Alex Pereira after KO win at UFC 303 I'm his favorite ex

Alex Pereira has elevated his UFC status from rising contender to UFC champion and is now working on solidifying himself as a UFC legend. At UFC 303, he made waves with his emphatic knockout over Jiri Prochazka, adding this feat to a long list of his MMA achievements.

Facing a mixed martial artist such as Prochazka inside the UFC octagon is no small task, but Pereira made easy work of his opponent. The head kick landed flush just barely over a dozen seconds into the second round, and the rest was history. A history of overcoming every obstacle placed in his way so far inside the UFC, and a history that is slowly becoming the very stuff of legend.

Now 2-0 over Prochazka and riding a four-fight winning streak, Pereira now officially stands 8-1 in his UFC career. He’s attained titles in multiple weight divisions and also faced the literal stiffest competition that both divisions have to offer. So, it is no surprise that a beautiful Ex-Girlfriend of Alex Pereira is still celebrating his many victories.

Wearing a low-cut pink shirt reading, “I’m his favorite ex,” Polyana Viana was in the crowd at UFC 303 and rooting for Alex Pereira. The UFC light heavyweight champion spoke on his relationship with Viana earlier this year and seemingly downplayed the connection, abstaining from attachment and simply suggesting that they were just training partners.

Whether or not any serious relations developed between the two is moot, and it’s just more comical legend to add to the beautiful lore that is becoming the story of one of the UFC greats: Alex Pereira.

What are your thoughts on the Jiri Prochazak vs. Alex Pereira rematch, and Polyana Viana’s controversial shirt at UFC 303?

Teddy Atlas compares Alex Pereira to boxing legends Joe Louis and 'Iron' Mike Tyson: 'He’s got X-ray vision'

In Teddy Atlas‘ eyes, UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira has a special set of skills only seen in some of the world’s greatest strikers.

Returning to the Octagon on just 16 days’ notice, ‘Poatan’ added another highlight-reel knockout to his resume, securing a stunning second-round head-kick KO against ex-titleholder Jiri Prochazka in the UFC 303 headliner.

It was perhaps Pereira’s most impressive performance yet, earning critical acclaim from pundits, including Atlas who marveled at Pereira’s ability to generate knockout power with little space to work.

“I haven’t seen a short punch like that since Joe Louis film, the late, great Joe Louis,” Atlas said of Pereira’s late first-round knockdown of Prochazka. “Joe Louis was famous for throwing six-inch punches. I just saw a three-inch left hook. Incredible” (h/t MMA Fighting).

Atlas also marveled at Pereira’s ability to seemingly know exactly what his opponent was going to do and when enabling him to execute his offense flawlessly.

“He’s got radar,” Atlas said. “He’s got x-ray vision. He sees things other people don’t see. Terence Crawford in boxing is that kind of guy. When you see things and you’re that calm, and you’re in that calm kind of environment, all you can be in, you see things and react just a little bit [faster].

“They call it timing, but he has special timing because he’s that calm and he’s got those kinds of eyes.”

Teddy Atlas fascinated by the viral staredown between Alex Pereira and Jiri Prochazka at UFC 303

Before the fight even began, everyone, including Atlas, was captivated by the intense staredown between Pereira and Prochazka. For minutes, ‘Poatan’ locked eyes with his opponent, staring into the soul of ‘BJP’ and setting the stage for what would be another epic night for the ‘Brazilian Boogeyman.’

Again, Atlas compared Pereira’s quiet intensity and ability to intimidate his fellow man with a simple stare to some of the biggest names in boxing history.

Alex Pereira

“Don’t think that doesn’t have an effect,” Atlas explained. “When you get these kinds of results behind it. When a guy can go into your soul, it’s like he’s looking right through. There was Sonny Liston, there was George Foreman, there was somebody named Mike Tyson — it worked for them.

“It helps deteriorate the guy. That’s what you’re trying to do. You’re trying to break a guy down. So when you get in there, what are you doing? You’re trying to physically break a guy down. But before it starts, you’re mentally trying to break them down. That’s where he has the head start on everybody.”

Shavkat Rakhmonov responds to Ian Machado Garry's Post-UFC 303 callout: 'Ian forgot what happened during those training sessions'

If Ian Machado Garry needs a reminder of how things went when he trained with Shavkat Rakhmonov, ‘Nomad’ is more than happy to remind him.

Returning to the Octagon to open the UFC 303 main card, ‘The Future’ extended his unbeaten streak to 15, 8-0 in the UFC, with a solid three-round performance against former Bellator MMA standout Michael ‘Venom’ Page. Though Dana White felt the fight was a draw, Garry did enough to get the nod on all three judges’ scorecards, keeping his ‘O’ intact.

Ian Machado Garry

Addressing media members following his big win, Garry clarified that he wanted to fight up the rankings his next time out and had one particular name in mind.

“I’m gonna have a chat with Hunter [Campbell] and Dana [White] to figure out what’s next,” Garry said at the post-fight press conference. “There’s some big names, there’s some cool matchups. This Shavkat [Rakhmonov], 18-0 undefeated. I’d love to get my hands on him. I’ve trained with him. I have nothing, but respect for the guy, but I want to be the first guy to take his ‘O’ and I know I can do it. I just beat the fastest guy in the division, other than me, when it comes to striking and skills so I know I can do it.

“When it comes to grappling, we’ve seen the growth that I have. I’m excited to go out there and prove it against someone like him.”

Though Garry did not give any additional insight into how their training sessions went, Rakhmonov was more than happy to enlighten fans on social media while offering Garry a stern reminder of their time in the gym, should he so desire it.

Shavkat responds to Ian Machado Garry

“Looks like Ian forgot what happened during those training sessions,” Rakhmonov wrote on X. “I don’t mind reminding him in the future.”

Is Shavkat Rakhmonov ready to put his ranking on the line against Ian Machado Garry?

As it stands, Rakhmonov is sitting in the No. 3 spot in the welterweight rankings, four slots above Garry, though that could change depending on how the Irishman’s win over the No. 14 ranked ‘Venom’ affects his own position in the rankings. Regardless, ‘Nomad’ is, by all accounts, the next man in line for a title opportunity once reigning champion Leon Edwards and Belal Muhammad take care of a bit of business on July 27.

However, it sounds like Rakhmonov is more than willing to put his spot in line at stake for an opportunity to hand Ian Machado Garry his first loss and shut the Irishman’s mouth on MMA’s biggest stage.

Does Garry stand a chance against ‘Nomad’ and his 100% finish rate, or is ‘The Future’ biting off a bit more than he can chew this time around? Perhaps we’ll find out soon enough.

“… I got a ton of respect for him – I would love to compete against him,” Michael Chandler explained. “I guess it’s up to the court of public opninon on whether or not I am a BMF caliber guy.
