Footage has once more reemerged of UFC CEO, Dana White singing the praise of former heavyweight titleholder, Francis Ngannou ahead of a long-mooted fight with Jon Jones — before switching his tune on the pairing following the Cameroonian’s exit from the promotion at the beginning of last year.

Jones, a former two-time undisputed light heavyweight champion and a current heavyweight gold holder, is all but set to headline UFC 309 at the end of the year in November — taking on the returning soon-to-be common-foe, Stipe Miocic at Madison Square Garden.

“I guess there was a video that resurfaced recently of me saying that after Stipe (Miocic), Francis (Ngannou) was the only fight I was interested in,” Jon Jones posted on his official X account. “That video was recorded well over a year ago. That was recorded before I got injured, before there was an intern (sic) champion crowned. I had already voiced that I wasn’t interested in any more randoms.”

“Now magically I’m ducking a fight that’s never been negotiated or discussed at any table that matters,” Jon Jones wrote. “Lol I’m sticking to my plans, Jon Jones jumps for no one. How many belts does one need? How many times do I have to break my own record?”

Because there’s no way on earth that he’s gonna fight me – I will retire Jon Jones without even fighting him.”

Aspinall’s claims regarding a fight with Jones come hot on the heels of comments from UFC CEO, Dana White, who boldly said that the Atherton native didn’t deserve any fight next – including a matchup with Jones.

“When you say Jon Jones versus Tom Aspinall, does that mean we’re saying Stipe (Miocic) doesn’t deserve the fight?” Dana White said. “I mean, this fight was supposed to happen, Jon’s got injured and Stipe has paid his dues and has been here forever.”
