UFC Brasilia

UFC fighters are
not being tested for Corona Virus ahead of tonight’s card in Brasilia, Brazil.

This shocking news
was revealed by Cristiano Sampaio who is the Chief
Operating Office of the Brazilian MMA commission otherwise known as CABMMA.

In a statement to MMA Fighting, Sampaio revealed fighters had not undergone testing but had bene closely monitored for any symptoms, he said.

“What we did was
follow teams and athletes closely, alongside the UFC, for possible symptoms,
and so far no one has presented any. There was no suspicion even at the
weigh-ins, where fighters would be more weaken with the weight cut. The
incubation period goes from five to 14 days, which could still result in a
negative test. We’re taking every measure possible under the current scenario.”

UFC Brasilia will continue with no fans or media at the Nilson Nelson Gymnasium. This comes after the governor banned all mass gathering of more than 100 people amid an outbreak of Corona Virus in the city.

In the main event
Kevin Lee will meet Charles Oliveira in a now catchweight bout of 158.5lbs
after ‘Motown Phenom’ came in 2.5lbs over the lightweight limit.

The Fight Night
event features 24 athletes from 11 different countries and is pretty much the
only major sporting event taking place this weekend. All other sports leagues
including NBA, NHL and Premier League have all postponed events until the
pandemic is under control.

Should the UFC be testing its athletes for Corona Virus?

Kevin Lee vs. Charles Oliveria

UFC Brasilia will be behind closed doors but the show goes on despite pretty much every other major sports promotion halting events this weekend.

In this main event we have catchweight bout after Kevin Lee missed weight by 2.5lbs for his fight against Brazilian submission specialist Charles Oliveira.

Lee returns to the cage for the first time since beating Gregor Gillespie with a highlight reel headkick KO. Oliveria looks to extend his winning run to seven and continue the best form of his UFC career. Check out our staff predicitons below.

Ryan Galloway: UFC Fight Night Brasilia’s main event showcases a lightweight matchup between Kevin Lee and Charles Oliveira. Oliveira has been on a tear lately however I believe Kevin Lee will be too much for him. I think Kevin Lee’s striking will be the difference in the bout and that he will be able to find the finish on the feet. (Prediction: Kevin Lee)

Cole Shelton: Kevin Lee vs. Charles Oliveira is a fascinating fight. In this one, I think Oliveira’s path to victory is to submit Lee but with Lee’s takedown defense I believe he’ll be able to keep to standing like he did with the Gillespie fight and piece up Oliveira for the entire fight and eventually rock him and for Lee to earn a third-round TKO. (Prediction: Kevin Lee)

Jordan Ellis: This main event match-up will ultimately come down to size in my opinion. Kevin Lee is in desperate need of the 165lb division as one of the bigger guys at lightweight. Charles Oliveira on the other hand has fought at 145lbs and isn’t the most built guy at this weight. I expect Lee to use his size, dictate the fight and avoid the nasty submission game of his Brazilian opponent. Ultimately, I expect Lee to get the stoppage win and snap the long winning run of his Oliveira. (Prediction: Kevin Lee)

Who do you thin will take the UFC Brasilia main event?

Headline: Diego Sanchez Goes On Rant After Kevin Lee Misses Weight For UFC Brasilia

Author: Fernando Quiles Jr.

Diego Sanchez is not happy that IV use is banned for weight cuts under USADA.

Ever since the UFC introduced USADA for its anti-doping measures, it has made an impact. Whether you like it or hate it, USADA is here to stay and has been since 2015. While some have praised USADA for keeping fighters clean, others have bashed the agency for being inconsistent with punishments as it pertains to victims of tainted supplements.

Diego Sanchez Blasts USADA’s IV Ban

Another result of USADA being put in place by the UFC is the ban on IV’s for weight cutting. After Kevin Lee missed weight once again for UFC Brasilia, Sanchez posted a rant on Instagram on how the IV ban has negatively affected fighters.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B9rux5gJfse/

“Another main event misses weight and he will win.. I have been saying it for years weight cutting is bullsh*t it’s bad for the fighters health! Why no change? Why no hydration tests? If your going to allow weight cutting then you should definitely allow IV’s it’s impossible to rehydrate adequately! Therefore creating a unfair place for competition where some guys don’t give a f*ck and use IV’s anyway.”

Weight cutting has been an issue in the world of combat sports for years and it’s unlikely that a universal solution will come anytime soon. Promotions such as ONE Championship have tried to mitigate the issue by ensuring that drastic weight fluctuations are banned and will result in an automatic bout cancelation. There are still measures in place to negotiate a catchweight if a fighter is hydrated but has failed to make the limit by half a pound. UFC color commentator Joe Rogan has praised the system put in place by ONE Championship.

Whether or not the UFC ever utilizes such a system remains to be seen. While ONE’s main goal when it comes to weigh-cutting has been to eliminate dehydration, it’s still an issue for most other MMA promotions.
