Francisco Trinaldo is looking to reenter the top 15 of the UFC lightweight rankings.

Trinaldo outpointed Bobby Green at UFC Sao Paulo on Saturday to return to the win column. Having fought on home soil, the Brazilian wants to do it again when the promotion returns to Brasilia on March 14.

“Massaranduba” lived in Brasilia early in his mixed martial arts (MMA) career and would love to compete there. He even has an opponent in mind in Edson Barboza, who he respectfully called out:

“I want to fight in Brasilia,” Trinaldo said in an interview with Combate (via Bloody Elbow). “I have nothing against Barboza, who, to me, is the best Muay Thai fighter. Can you imagine me and Barboza fighting in Brasilia? I think the fans would enjoy the hell out of that. I like Barboza, I think it would be interesting to fight him. People like him a lot. I’ve defeated some guys he has defeated, too.

“I’m not challenging him, I just think it would be a good fight for the fans in Brasilia, a main event or something to sell for the public. I’m sure we’ll throw down. Barboza is tough, but I have tough sparring partners. Muay Thai guys, like him. Our gym is good at striking. I can go five rounds, all striking. Here in Brazil, few fighters have more fans than me.”

Barboza is on a two-fight losing skid, having lost to Justin Gaethje and Paul Felder earlier this year. Maybe a fight with Trinaldo is something that could interest him?

Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino openly criticized the UFC for not promoting her as heavily, as opposed to if she had “blonde hair and blue eyes” when she appeared on FS1’s Speak for Yourself.

Recently UFC President Dana White appeared on the same program to respond to the Brazilian’s comments, courtesy of MMA Fighting, and explained the differences between ‘Cyborg’ and former UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey when it comes to becoming a star:

“Let me ask you a question: what makes somebody a star?” White said. “What has been done with Ronda (Rousey) that hasn’t been done with Cyborg, as far as being a star? Ronda is a world champion, had the belt and everything else. We don’t have a belt in that (featherweight) division. We don’t have that weight division for Cyborg … because there aren’t enough good women at 145 pounds to create an entire division.”

“I actually run the business, I actually know what’s going on. She can say it’s B.S. (that there aren’t enough women). I actually know.”

092416-UFC-Cris-Cyborg.vadapt.980.high.81[1]White would then go on to discuss the possibility of the long awaited ‘Cyborg’ vs. Rousey bout that fans have been clamoring for, which White promised would happen if ‘Rowdy’ emerges victorious in her next bout come December:

“Ronda Rousey makes a lot of money,” White said. “She gets a lot of attention. She’s doing movies. She has all kinds of other sponsorship deals and all these other things outside of the Octagon too. And listen, other people look at them and say, ‘hey, I should have that too. Why do I not have that too?’ And of course, that’s my fault. You know what I mean? That’s my fault because it’s not happening.

“But the reality is this: Cris Cyborg is devastatingly good,” White continued. “She’s been destroying everybody right now. Her popularity is actually starting to go [up]. She’s getting bigger. Everybody wants it right here, right now. It doesn’t happen that way. I promise you this, Ronda has to come in and fight on December 30th. Okay? Ronda has to win, and the girl that she’s fighting is no pushover. She’s nasty and tough and Ronda’s got a fight on her hands there.

“She wins that fight, her and Cris Cyborg are eventually going to fight. Ronda wants that fight. It will be the biggest pay-per-view in UFC history.”

When pressed with the question of when ‘eventually’ actually is, White wouldn’t budge and said the UFC would have to wait and see after the result of Rousey’s upcoming bout with Amanda Nunes:

“We’ll see what happens,” White said. “This thing’s got to play out first and we’ll see what happens.”

Cyborg-RouseyNunes will meet Rousey in the main event of UFC 207 for the UFC women’s bantamweight title live on pay-per-view (PPV), from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on December 30, 2016.

It appears as though Roy Nelson will be judged for kicking referee Big John McCarthy after his UFC Fight Night 95 clash with Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva in Brazil.

Nelson took the Brazilian out in the second round, but kicked ‘Big John’ after the stoppage and gave him the one finger salute after feeling that the referee stopped the contest too late:

“I didn’t want to hurt ‘Bigfoot’ more than I had to,” Nelson said during the post-fight press conference in Brasilia. “And I got taken by the moment, because it’s like I’m beating the sh*t out of somebody and you’re like, dude, enough is enough.

And for me, it hurt my feelings. And I apologize to Big John, but I wouldn’t take it back. It just hurt me, that I’ve got to keep on hitting a guy that doesn’t need to be hit.”

MMA Fighting obtained a document from The Superior Justice Court of MMA (STJDMMA) earlier today, which states that Nelson was notified of a 90-day suspension that begun on September 29th. Following the event The STJDMMA accepted a complaint filed by one of its attorneys

Nelson could be charged a potential fine of up to $30,000 and anywhere from a 30-day to six-month suspension for assaulting McCarthy.

The attorney is suggesting a 14-month suspension and $18,500 fine, however, the President of the STJDMMA still must evaluate the case. Nelson has been given business days to present his defense.

UFC heavyweight Roy Nelson has always had a rocky relationship with Dana White. Since winning The Ultimate Fighter season 10, ‘Big Country’ has compiled a promotional record of 9-9. Nelson holds eight UFC knockouts to his credit, and has been finished just once in his UFC career. The dangerous one-punch knockout artists has often come unstuck with the UFC president, though. Some of his comments in the past have proved a little too gruff even for Dana White.

Nelson once referred to White as the ‘woman of their relationship,’ during a humorous rant. Dana did not find the comments so funny, and thus a rift began to form between them. Nelson’s actions in Brazil this past weekend have certainly rocked the boat a little more. ‘Big Country’ scored a trademark knockout finish over Antonio Silva at UFC Brasilia, but his outburst following the fight was far more shocking. Feeling the referee John McCarthy had let ‘Bigfoot’ absorb too much punishment, Nelson let his feelings air with a boot to the butt of ‘Big John.’

Nelson Goes Nuts

After starching Antonio Silva, then kicking and flipping off John McCarthy, Roy Nelson was apologetic and nonchalant at the same time. With all the news of Conor McGregor and Eddie Alvarez floating around, UFC president Dana White has been oddly quiet about this dramatic outburst in Brazil. Speaking with Matt Serra and Jim Norton, White says Nelson should be buried for his actions towards McCarthy:

“You can’t apologize for that. You don’t ever put your fucking hands on a referee. There’s absolutely no fucking excuse. He needs to be buried. (Nelson) went over there and put his foot on (John’s) ass to push or whatever. He was yelling and flipping him off. There’s never, ever any situation where you put your hands on a referee. He can’t apologize. We’ll see how the athletic commission handles it, but he needs to get buried for that one. I haven’t seen what’s gone on, but if the Brazilian athletic commission doesn’t rain down on him, that’s not good. Referees are there for your safety. You’re a fighter, you go until the referee tells you to stop. That referee has been here a lot longer than fucking Roy Nelson has. It’s despicable, it’s disgusting, it can never happen again.”

It’s not only Dana White that Roy Nelson has to worry about either, as the Brazilian courts are going to have a pop too. Check out this latest update H/T

Roy Nelson

Nelson vs. The Courts

“Even though CABMMA understands Roy Nelson’s ‘frustration’ in that situation due to his close relationship with his opponent, that does not justify his act and can open a serious and dangerous precedent in the sport. We, as the regulation body of MMA in Brazil and member of the Association of Boxing Commissions, will not tolerate such conduct.

“All the licensed professionals involved have to act accordingly, respecting the rules, commission, promoter and fans, where unsportsmanlike behavior will be subject to fines and suspensions.”

*Ed Note*

Talking of dangerous and somewhat unregulated behaviour, isn’t Cris Cyborg’s 30-pound weight cut a little more hazardous than Nelson’s butt kicking? Also, didn’t the CABMMA allow Cyborg to weigh in 0.5 pounds over the limit?

Former UFC bantamweight champion Renan Barao continued his quest to reinvent his once-surging career at featherweight when he met fellow formerly touted prospect Phillipe Nover in the co-main event of last night’s (Sat., September 24, 2016) UFC Fight Night 95 from Ginásio Nilson Nelson in Brasília, Brazil.

It may not have been the dominant stoppage we’re used to from him, but with the weight of his hometown fans both supporting him and making his bout with Nover a must-win, ‘The Baron’ delivered for his many Brazilian fans. Controlling the pace with a strong mix of takedowns and striking, Barao picked up an important decision win over Nover.

After a draining weight cut that was the center of discussion this week, Invicta FC featherweight champion Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Justino finally met Lina Lansberg at 140 pounds in the main event of tonight’s (Sat., September 24, 2016) UFC Fight Night 95 from Ginásio Nilson Nelson in Brasília, Brazil.

Cyborg came in a massive favorite as she does in all of her fights, and the results were no different in her second UFC bout. The Brazilian WMMA legend came out guns blazing, pushing Lansberg into the fence and dominating the action throughout the entire first round.

In the second frame, Justino truly took over, dominating the action from the mount and badly bloodying Lansberg’s nose with a nonstop torrent of power shots. Kudos to Lansberg for her incredible toughness, but this fight only further proved that Cyborg has little – if any at all – competition in women’s MMA.
