Jose Aldo isn’t done yet and his first-round TKO win over Jeremy Stephens proves it.
The co-main event of UFC Calgary featured a featherweight clash between Aldo and Stephens. The former featherweight king and “Lil Heathen” collided inside the Scotia Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. This was Aldo’s first non-title bout in the UFC.
Stephens went high with a kick early but it was blocked. Both men seemed to respect each other’s skills in the standup. Stephens connected with a knee to the body. Stephens went to the leg kicks, but Aldo soon returned fire.
Aldo landed an uppercut. Stephens landed a punch and an uppercut. A cut formed under the right eye of Stephens. Aldo fired off a leg kick. A straight right hand landed for Aldo. He dropped Stephens with a huge body shot. Also rained down punches and the fight was stopped.
Final Result: Jose Aldo def. Jeremy Stephens via TKO (strikes) – R1, 4:19

Joanna Jedrzejczyk is back in the win column thanks to her performance against Tecia Torres.
Bout number two on the main card of UFC Calgary featured a former strawweight champion and a 115-pounder hoping to shoot up to a title opportunity. Jedrzejczyk shared the Octagon with Torres inside the Scotia Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. This was the first non-title bout for Jedrzejczyk since Dec. 2014.
They engaged in the clinch with Torres pushing the former champion against the fence. Jedrzejcyzk landed knees to the body. The former champion reversed the position. Torres got back to the dominant position. Up to this point it was a battle for position, but Jedrzejczyk landed several knees to the body. Torres landed a knee but shot in for a single leg takedown. She couldn’t finish it by the time the horn sounded.
The former champion opened up the second stanza with leg kicks. They exchanged strikes with both landing clean right hands. Jedrzejcyzk’s output in striking was a clear advantage. Torres changed levels and shot in. Jedrzejczyk connected with a knee to the body. They separated and returned to the center of the Octagon. Before the end of the second round, the two exchanged strikes and Torres landed a solid right hand.
Jedrzejcyzk using a push kick to keep distance early in the final frame. A counter right hand was there for the former champion. A right hand landed clean for the former champion off a leg kick counter. Torres pushed her opponent against the fence. Torres grabbed onto a leg and Jedrzejczyk was down briefly. The round ended shortly after.
All three judges scored the fight for Jedrzejczyk.
Final Result: Joanna Jedrzejczyk def. Tecia Torres via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Alex Hernandez was too much for Olivier Aubin-Mercier.
Opening the main card of UFC Calgary was a lightweight scrap between Hernandez and Aubin-Mercier. The two did battle inside the Scotia Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Going into the bout, Hernandez was the 13th ranked 155-pounder, while Aubin-Mercier was unranked.
Hernandez looked to start off aggressively. A right hand was there for Aubin-Mercier. They engaged in the clinch, but only briefly. A combination was there for Hernandez. A knee to the body landed for Aubin-Mercier. Hernandez pressed his opponent against the fence and looked for a takedown, but nothing doing. Aubin-Mercier landed a knee upstairs. Hernandez landed a right hand and went back to the clinch. He scored a takedown near the end of the round.
Hernandez was able to quickly get a takedown in the second stanza. Aubin-Mercier returned to his feet and escaped the clinch. Surprisingly, he engaged back in the clinch. Hernandez dropped down for a takedwon attempt and Aubin-Mercier reversed for a straight armbar attempt. Hernandez went for an armbar, but used it to try to improve his position. Aubin-Mercier won the scramble and maintained control.Hernandez prevented the mount and ended up in top control. Referee Marc Goddard stepped in for a premature standup. Hernandez fired off a combination. He pushed his opponent against the fence and threw knees to the body. The round ended with Hernandez scoring a takedown.
Right away, Hernandez mixed up his strikes to get in the clinch position.Time was called for an accidental knee to the groin of Aubin-Mercier. When time resumed, Hernandez teed off. He lost his balance as Mercier landed a punch, but Hernandez scored another takedown. Goddard stood both men back up and color commentator Daniel Cormier didn’t agree with it. It didn’t matter to Hernandez as he was able to bring Aubin-Mercier back down yet again. Aubin-Mercier got back up and scored a double leg takedown. They scrambled and Hernandez took the back of Aubin-Mercier. The final horn sounded and the decision was clear.
Final Result: Alex Hernandez def. Olivier Aubin-Mercier via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
