Watch: Fabricio Werdum Buys New Boomerang After Colby Covington Incident

It seems like former UFC heavyweight champ Fabricio Werdum isn’t taking the assault summons he was served with after being seen hitting trash-spewing UFC welterweight Colby Covington with a boomerang in Sydney, Australia, all too seriously. “Vai Cavalo,” who will take on Marcin Tybura in the main event of tonight’s UFC Fight Night 122, was apparently […]

It seems like former UFC heavyweight champ Fabricio Werdum isn’t taking the assault summons he was served with after being seen hitting trash-spewing UFC welterweight Colby Covington with a boomerang in Sydney, Australia, all too seriously.

“Vai Cavalo,” who will take on Marcin Tybura in the main event of tonight’s UFC Fight Night 122, was apparently sick of Covington calling his Brazilian countrymen “filthy animals” repeatedly since he uncorked the derogatory phrase following his win over local hero Demian Maia at October 28’s UFC Sao Paulo.

He was seen hitting Covington with said boomerang in a video from UFC featherweight Dan Hooker. But with the weapon now involved in the “alleged” assault from Werdum, he was once again void of his favorite souvenir. That is until he posted a video on Instagram telling his friend acting as the store clerk that he was purchasing a new one, “because the other day I threw one and it didn’t came back.”

It looks like Colby Covington wasn’t kidding when he said he planned to press charges on UFC heavyweight Fabricio Werdum for (allegedly) throwing a boomerang at him in Sydney, Australia, yesterday.

News arrived this evening from The New South Wales police force’s official website (via MMA Junkie) that the former UFC heavyweight champ would face court for the assault:

A man will face court after he allegedly assaulted a man with a boomerang yesterday.

About 1.30pm (Thursday 16 November 2017), a 40-year-old man and a 29-year-old man became involved in an altercation outside a hotel on George Street, Sydney.

The incident escalated when the 40-year-old man allegedly threw a bag containing the boomerang at the other man, which hit him in the neck.

Officers from Sydney City Local Area Command were later alerted to the incident and commenced investigations.

Following inquiries, a 40-year-old man was issued with a Field Court Attendance Notice for common assault.

He is expected to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday 13 December 2017.

Neither man required medical treatment following the incident.

Werdum’s possible punishment for the incident, which began when Covington allegedly starting mouthing off by repeating his oft-cited slurs against Brazilians and kicked Werdum in the leg, is currently unknown. UFC featherweight Dan Hooker caught the incident on tape on his phone and posted it on Twitter.

Covington also began filming the incident on his phone towards the end of the snafu, where he was heard calling Brazilians “filthy” animals and hurling a homophobic slur on his own video.

But with this incident now involving an actual arrest following his highly-publicized UFC 216 media lunch standoff with Tony Ferguson where he threw several homophobic slurs of his own (for which he has yet to be punished), Werdum certainly isn’t doing himself  – or the UFC – any favors.

The promotion has stated they are looking into the incident to determine if violated the UFC Athlete Code of Conduct, and with charges now filed, there’s a good chance that it did.

The early betting odds for the new main event of UFC Fight Night 122 have been released.

One of the biggest news stories last week was the revelation that former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva was pulled from his bout against Kelvin Gastelum at the upcoming event after he was flagged due to a potential U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) violation.

The promotion then was searching to find a replacement for Silva, and they found former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping. There are some questions regarding if a three-week turnaround will be too much for Bisping and the early odds seem to suggest so.

The fight will mean that Bisping is fighting on two different continents in two UFC main events in just a 21-day span. Bisping has opened as a +120 underdog to -161 favorite Gastelum, according to William Hill, which posted the first line for the fight (via bestfightodds.com).

By breaking this down, if you place a winning $100 bet on Bisping would result in a profit of $120. If you place a winning bet on Gastelum would net a profit of $62.11. That gives an implied winning probability of 45.5 percent for Bisping and 61.7 percent for Gastelum.

UFC Fight Night 122 is set to take place on November 25, 2017, at Mercedes Benz Arena in Shanghai, China. The main card will air on the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass, while the preliminary card will also air on Fight Pass.
