John Dodson Doubts Decision: Lineker Looked Like Frankenstein

Former two-time flyweight title challenger John “The Magician” Dodson attempted to establish himself as a legitimate threat to the 135-pound throne in the main event of last night’s (October 1, 2016) UFC Fight Night 96 from Portland, taking on No. 3-ranked John “Hands of Stone” Lineker.

The two men went to battle for 25 minutes in a closely-fought war, but it was Lineker who came out on top with a split-decision victory. Dodson, however, didn’t agree with the decision, and he believes the damage he dished out should’ve been enough to land him the nod:

“I still look handsome as hell,” Dodson told MMAjunkie. “He came out looking like Frankenstein, so I don’t know what’s up.”

“The Magician” event went as far as to compare the fight to UFC 195’s welterweight title fight between Robbie Lawler and Carlos Condit. The fight was an instant classic that many felt as if Condit had won, although the judges gave Lawler the decision:

“I did the whole Carlos Condit-Robbie Lawler thing, and sure enough, they gave it to Robbie Lawler again,” Dodson said.

Dodson did indeed appear to get the better of the striking advantages, however, Lineker’s forward pressure as opposed to Dodson’s counter punching may have led the judges to sway towards “Hands of Stone”.

“I was like, ‘What the hell are y’all thinking?’” Dodson said. “I didn’t know you could make someone miss so many times and still be on the losing end.”

How did you score the fight?

John Lineker Thinks He’s Earned Shot At Dominick Cruz

Despite missing weight for a record setting fifth time, No. 3-ranked UFC bantamweight contender John “Hands of Stone” Lineker extended his win streak to six in the main event of last night’s (October 1, 2016) UFC Fight Night 96 with a split-decision victory over former two-time flyweight title challenger John Dodson. With his latest victory, Lineker is eyeing another big name fight, and it appears as if he has his eyes set on the division’s ring leader Dominick Cruz:

“Im a fighter, I will fight anyone UFC puts in front of me, but I think I deserve Dominick Cruz. It’s time for me, I have four consecutive wins. It’s my turn now.,” said “Hands of Stone” during his post-fight interview.

Cruz is coming off of a dominant decision victory over bitter rival Urijah Faber last June, and has yet to sign on for his next fight. The list of possible opponents for “The Dominator” includes former champion TJ Dillashaw, who Cruz beat last January, Cody Garbrandt, and now Lineker, although it’s currently unclear which man is leading the race.

If Lineker isn’t given a title shot, perhaps a bout with No. 4-ranked Bryan Caraway would make sense. Caraway, who’s coming off of a victory over the previously surging Aljamain Sterling, took to his official twitter to call out “Hands of Stone”:

Former Bellator lightweight champion Will Brooks was looking to extend his perceived rise up the deep UFC 155-pound ranks when he met Alex Oliveira in the co-main event of last night’s (Sat., October 1, 2016) UFC Fight Night 96 from Moda Center in Portland Oregon.

Instead, he suffered his first UFC loss to a fighter who missed weight by a lofty 5.5 pounds, succumbing to a brutal third-round TKO from the Brazilian “Cowboy” after breaking his rib in the first round. After the disappointing loss, Brooks discussed the injury on Twitter, noting that he couldn’t feel bad for himself and would be back:

He also released a photo of himself in the hospital, noting that he ‘needed a beer’ after the injury caused him to noticeably grimace on multiple occurrences during the later portions of the fight:

The rib appeared to be hurt when Brooks absorbed a brutal elbow from Oliveira in the first round, and it certainly played a big part into his subsequent decline and loss. However, there are many crying that he was hurt by an opponent in a fight, an obvious byproduct of the sport he was competing in.

Regardless, Brooks has his first UFC loss in only second fight, albeit to an opponent who was more of a welterweight than a lightweight at weigh-ins and fight time.

Brooks will definitely be back after he heals, yet his UFC career is off to a rocky start. Do you think he’ll be able to turn things around in the world’s toughest MMA promotion?
