UFC on ESPN+ 2 went down from the Centro de Formação Olímpica do Nordeste in Fortaleza, Brazil last night (Sat. February 2, 2019).

In the main event of the night, Marlon Moraes silenced all doubt that he should receive the next shot at the UFC bantamweight championship. Moraes defeated Raphael Assuncao via first-round submission after dropping his fellow Brazilian with some heavy shots. After the fight, Moraes said he’s not sure champion TJ Dillashaw deserves to fight him.

He might just fight somebody else and let Dillashaw mess around with the “little boys” at 125 pounds. The mixed martial arts (MMA) community certainly had a lot to say about Moraes’ spectacular victory. Check out how they reacted on Twitter here:

While lesser known fighters like Anthony Hernandez and Ricardo Ramos scatter the card for the hardcore supporters.

Still, the six-fight main card on tap for this evening is a solid offering for the streaming service. And if it comes close to reaching the numbers that ESPN+ 1 garnered it will be considered a smashing success.

While the co-main event will go along way in helping clear up the 145-pound division, the main event should yield a new No. 1 contender to the bantamweight strap as Raphael Assuncao and Marlon Moraes will meet again.

At 36 years old Assuncao is riding a four-fight winning streak. He most recently defeated Rob Font at UFC 226 last July. He will look to make it 2-0 vs his Brazilian counterpart.

Moraes has gone 3-1 since signing with the UFC. His only loss in that stretch was his promotional debut to Assuncao. Moraes gets a rare opportunity to get one back in MMA.

Jose Aldo is still a very bad man.

He reminded everyone exactly that tonight (Sat. February 2, 2019) in Fortaleza, Brazil. Aldo defeated Renato Moicano in their co-main event meeting at UFC on ESPN+ 2. Aldo and Moicano engaged in a bit of a feeling out process in the first round. However, Moicano looked to be landing the better of the shots.

The second round was a completely different story. Aldo came out aggressive, finding a home for his body strikes immediately. Aldo’s body attack was just too much for Moicano to take. The referee called a stop to the action in just 44 seconds. Check out the highlights here:

Aldo has now won back-to-back fights inside the Octagon. That’s Aldo’s first back-to-back win streak since 2014. The Brazilian aims to retire from mixed martial arts (MMA) this year, and hopes to fight the last two fights on his UFC deal in Brazil.

As for Moicano, this is certainly a learning experience for the 29-year-old. His defeat to Aldo snapped a two-fight win streak against names like Cub Swanson and Calvin Kattar. Despite the defeat to one of the greatest featherweights of all time, Moicano still has a very bright future at 145 pounds.

José Aldo and Renato Moicano will square off in the co-main vent of the evenings. Needless to say, the winner of this fight has the inside track for an early title shot this year.

While it seems Aldo should easily be 35, or 36 years old with all his experience, in fact, the former featherweight champ is only 32 years old. That is only three years older than Moicano. Aldo most recently defeated Jeremy Stephens at UFC on FOX 30 last July.

Moicano holds a record of 13-1-1. His only blemish is to former title challenger Brian Ortega. Having beaten Cub Swanson at UFC 227 his last time out, a win over Aldo should solidify his position at the top of the division.

Round One

The fighters touch gloves. Moicano takes center Octagon. Both men taking their time to start seemingly sizing each other up. Aldo pumps the jab as Moicano throws a spinning back kick that misses. Aldo throws a big overhand right hand that misses. Aldo lands a leg kick followed by a left hand. Moicano answers with a leg kick of his own. Again both men taking their time in their movements early on. Moicano throws a lazy head kick that just misses the mark. Moicano throws a one-two combo. Aldo whiffs a leg kick. The fighters briefly engage in a firefight with Moicano getting the better. Moicano circles right and lands a left. The round ends.

Round Two

The second frame starts with Moicano taking center Octagon again. Aldo lands a big left hand that hurts Moicano, he rushes in and lands another left hand. He follows it up with a right to the body and a knee. He blasts him with an uppercut and a right hand. Moicano is down. The fight is over.

A feature welterweight bout between Demian Maia and Lyman Good will keep the action going.

Maia has long been one of the best BJJ practitioners in the sport. However, his back is somewhat against the wall as he is on a three-fight skid.

As for Good. He is riding high off of a big KO win over Ben Saunders at UFC 230. A victory over a high profile fighter such as Maia would be quite the feather in the cap of the former Bellator welterweight champ.

Round One

Maia starts off throwing a bunch of right-hand faints. Maia has Good backed up to the cage. He shoots a double and wrestles Good to the ground. Maia is like glue once he gets ahold of his opponent. Maia gets the back of Good and locks in a standing body triangle while looking for the RNC. Good is defending for the time being. Maia is peppering Good with punches. Good is pressing against the cage to help carry Maia’s weight. Maia sinks in the choke deeper and gets Good to tap standing up.
