Stephen Thompson Says He’s On A Different Level Than Darren Till

It appears as if Stephen Thompson has something to prove:

No. 1-ranked UFC welterweight contender Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson, who’s challenged divisional champion Tyron Woodley twice to date, was hoping to receive a chance to fight for the interim 170-pound title, but he’ll instead be taking on 25-year-old rising star Darren Till in the main event of this Sunday’s (May 27, 2018) UFC Fight Night 130 from Till’s home of Liverpool, England.

And while some have questioned whether or not the fight made sense for Thompson given him and Till’s respective spots in the rankings, ‘Wonderboy’ recently said that he’ll be looking to prove why he’s ranked at the top:

“That’s what I’m out there to prove to the fans and everybody around the world. There are levels to this,” Thompson told Damon Martin of MMAWeekly. “I’m going to go out there and I’m going to do work. You’re going to see the level of that No. 1 and No. 8. UFC’s giving him a chance so I know he’s going to be coming prepared. Anybody in the UFC has a chance to knock you out. So I’m not going to take this guy lightly.

“I’m going to prove to everybody this is why I’m No. 1 and there are levels to this game.”

In terms of the fight itself, many are expecting a striking contest due to the fact that Thompson comes from a karate and kick boxing background and Till comes from a Muay Thai background, but ‘Wonderboy’ didn’t seem like he’d be surprised if Till attempted to wrestle him:

“I know that pretty much everybody I face is going to wind up wanting to take me down eventually,” he said. “I know in some of Till’s earlier fights, he has tried to take people down. I know he prefers to stand up, which is something I want to do.

“He wants to prove he’s the better striker than me and that puts a smile on my face. I hope that’s his plan.”

UFC Fight Night 130 will take place from the Echo Arena and be aired live on FOX Sports 1.

Dana White To Meet With Conor McGregor In Liverpool

Dana White and Conor McGregor will finally meet face-to-face following the Irishman’s tirade last month in Brooklyn:

The post Dana White To Meet With Conor McGregor In Liverpool appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Last month, Conor McGregor lit up the mixed martial arts world when he arrived in New York and stormed a media day prior to UFC 223, which took place on April 7 at the Barclays Center. Ultimately, McGregor and a group of teammates and friends arrived and began throwing objects at a bus filled with fighters.

Multiple fighters were left injured and McGregor was forced to turn himself into police and spend a night in a Brooklyn jail. Following the event, UFC President Dana White obviously wasn’t too happy, calling McGregor’s actions ‘disgusting’.

The Irishman will now appear in court next month, but his fighting future remains unclear. Speaking to that, White said that he’ll be meeting with the former two-division world champion later this week in Liverpool prior to UFC Fight Night 130:

“Obviously he has to deal with that in June,” White said Wednesday during a “SportsCenter” appearance on ESPN. “I’m flying to Liverpool this weekend for a fight there, and he and I are going to meet in Liverpool.”

And while White will speak to McGregor about fighting, the UFC boss confirmed that he will play no role in the legal side of the situation:

“We’re going to sit down and talk about his future and what’s next,” White said. “But obviously I have nothing to do with the legal issues. He has to figure that out on his own.”

McGregor hasn’t competed in the UFC since November 2016 when he viciously knocked out Eddie Alvarez in the main event of UFC 205 from Madison Square Garden in New York City to become the promotion’s 155-pound champion. He then suffered a 10th round TKO defeat to Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match last August from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Darren Till: I’ll Knock Out Wonderboy By Second Round

Darren Till thinks “Wonderboy” never wanted to fight him:

The post Darren Till: I’ll Knock Out Wonderboy By Second Round appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

UFC welterweight contenders Darren Till and Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson will square off in the main event of UFC Liverpool on May 27.

Till is supremely confident that he will defeat two-time former title challenger Thompson, whom he says was forced “kicking and screaming” into taking the fight after publicly declaring he wanted a bigger name.

Till believes his 35-year-old opponent, who came up short twice against Tyron Woodley for the welterweight title, didn’t have any interest in taking the fight with him, which will ultimately play to his advantage Till told MMANytt:

“I think ’cause [Wonderboy] didn’t want to take this fight he’s been talking a bit more out of tame lately. Not bad, ’cause you know, he’s not a shit talker, he’s not a bad person he’s a nice guy. But just ’cause I feel like he was forced into this fight he didn’t want to take it. But he’s still comin’, and he’s comin’ to beat me on home turf and we’ll see, mate.”

“I truly believe I’m gonna stop him in the second. It wouldn’t surprise me if the first. I truly believe I’m gonna stop Stephen Thompson. He might say otherwise, you know, get off me high horse, ‘kid, you’re not experienced like I am’. He can say what he wants to say.”

Till is coming off of the biggest win in his MMA career after stopping Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in the first round of their UFC Poland match-up last October, and is looking to seize that momentum with a following upset over “Wonderboy.”

Like Thompson, “Cowboy” is 35, which Till says will also be to his advantage come fight night, as the Englishman is 10 years younger than his more experienced opponent. Regardless of the experience and name recognition that age brings, Till believes there’s no way any 35-year-old can hang with him:

“There’s no 35-year-old man out there who can f-ckin’ last more than three rounds with a guy like me right now.”

Will Till make good on his brash prediction and actually knock out “Wonderboy”?
