UFC on ESPN+ 5 took place from the O2 Arena in London, England earlier today (Sat. March 16, 2019).

In the main event of the night, former UFC welterweight title challenger Darren Till made his return to the cage. He stepped in to welcome back Jorge Masvidal after over a year away from competition. Despite all the hype behind “The Gorilla” in his hometown, it was “Gamebred” who left victorious.

After overcoming a fast-paced attack from Till early on, Masvidal caught Till in the second round with a hellacious left hand. The punch knocked Till out cold for the first time in his career. Check out how the mixed martial arts (MMA) community reacted to the shocking stoppage on Twitter here:

Liverpool’s Darren Till will meet Jorge Masvidal in the main event of the evening in a pivotal welterweight showdown at UFC on ESPN+ 5.

Till (17-1-1) will look to rebound from the first loss of his career after suffering a beat down from then-welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. As for Masvidal (32-13). A true veteran of the sport, “Gamebred” earned his stripes street fighting on the mean streets of Miami, Florida. Although he is coming off of two straight losses, Masvidal is always dangerous.

Round One

Masvidal rushes the center and kicks Till’s groin on accident. Till floors Masvidal with a straight left hand. Till looks to take control on top but Masvidal gets back to his feet. He cracks Till with a right hand. Masvidal throws a hard kick to the body of Till, the Brit takes Masvidal down. A couple of hard leg kicks landed by the American. Till looks to be measuring Masvidal. He lands a left hand and forces Masvidal back up against the fence. Masvidal throws a looping right hand. Till follows with a winging left hook. The American moves forward and lands a one-two. Till throws a left hand. He lands a hard leg kick as the round ends.

Round Two

Till puts pressure on Masvidal right away here in round two. Masvidal counters with a right hand that catches Till’s attention. The American scores a takedown and looks for a takedown but Till defends nicely and gets back to his feet. Till muscles out and takes control of the cage. Both men miss leg kicks. Till doubles up the jab and Masvidal answers with a solid body kick. Masvidal dips and lands a sweeping left hand that sends Till’s unconscious body to the canvas. Masvidal lands another right hand on the way down for good measure.

Leon Edwards will meet Gunnar Nelson in the co-main event of the evening in an important welterweight bout on UFC on ESPN+ 5.

The UK’s Edwards (16-3) has been on a tear in the 170-pound division. “Rocky” has rattled off six straight wins. He most recently defeated Donald Cerrone last June. As for Nelson (17-3-1). After a controversial loss to Santiago Ponzinibbio in July of 2017, “Gunni” bounced back with a submission victory over Alex Oliveira at UFC 231 last December.

Round One

Edwards takes the center of the Octagon as Nelson bounces in his traditional karate style. Nelson lands a hard body kick and clinches Edwards against the cage. Edwards tries to escape but Nelson slams him back down to the canvas. Nelson looks to trap Edwards’ legs but Edwards fights his way back up. The British fighter manages to trip Nelson and he looks to take Nelson’s back. However, the cage is in his way. Less than two minutes to go and it is more of a chess match at this point. Both men are fighting for wrist control, but Edwards is the one threatening. Not much action going on, but Nelson does manage to get back to his feet. The round ends with the men looking at each other.

Round Two

Edwards quickly rushes to the center of the cage and throws a leg kick. Nelson throws a range finding jab. He times a leaping straight left hand but misses the mark. Edwards connects on a one-two as Nelson comes in for a takedown. Edwards lands a knee to the body of Nelson and escapes throwing an elbow. Nelson clinches and presses the British fighter against the cage. He cracks Edwards with a right hand on the break. Nelson leaps in with a right hand but Edwards uses his footwork well there. Nelson, however, lands a hard knee to the body. He lunges in with a back and and clinches Edwards again. He clips Edwards with a right hand on the break. Edwards blasts Nelson with a left elbow. Nelson drops. He pounces and drops bombs on Nelson. The fight could be stopped. Somehow Nelson survives the round ends.

Round Three

They touch gloves to start. Both men seem to have a slower pace here to start. Nelson shoots a deep takedown. Edwards has done a great job defending takedowns all night. They break and, again, Nelson looks for a punch, but Edwards was not there. Nelson drops his hands and closes the distance but Edwards quickly gains double underhooks and defends. He spins and threatens Nelson with a takedown. He lets Nelson up. Nelson lands a leaping right hand, Edwards drops. Nelson ends up in top control but he only has 40 seconds to work. He is landing some punches but he likely needs more. Edwards is holding on. The fight ends.

Former light heavyweight title challenger Volkan Oezdemir will face off with fast-rising Dominick Reyes in a featured main card bout at UFC on ESPN+ 5.

After starting his UFC career with three quick wins, Oezdemir (15-3) has hit the skids. He has lost his last two fights, most recently losing to Anthony Smith last October. As for Reyes (10-0). The 29-year-old former IT coordinator has really made his presence known in the UFC. He will look for his fourth straight UFC victory in London.

Round One

Oezdemir takes the center of the Octagon to start. Reyes circles left. He throws a head kick that lands partly. Oezdimr pumps the jab. Reyes lands a straight left and throws a leg kick that takes Oezdimr off his feet. He gets up quickly and starts to stalk Reyes. He lands a right hand as Reyes moves out of the way. Reyes throws a leg kick that catches Oezdimer in the groin. The referee stops the fight. The fight resumes with Oezdimer hunting Reyes with swooping right hands. He clips Reyes with one. Reyes drops and Oezdimer looks to pounce but Reyes scrambles up to his feet. Oezdimer slips to get inside and lands a takedown on Reyes. He looks to push him against the cage but Reyes walks up the fence and gets back to his feet. Both fighters seem to be reading each other with 60 seconds left in the opening round. Oezdimer unloads with punches as he backs Reyes up against the cage. Reyes endures and circles out to the center of the Octagon. The round ends.

Round Two

The fighters touch gloves to start the second frame. Oezdimer uncorks a sweeping right hand but Reyes blocks it. Reyes throws a leg kick then goes high. He goes back to the leg attack again, this time Reyes puts some power behind the kick. Oezdimer is doing a decent job closing the distance but he is eating some shots on the way in. Reyes shoots a takedown but Oezdimer defends. Reyes clips Oezdimer with a right hook. Oezdimer comes back with a right of his own and follows it with a knee up the middle. Reyes looks for another takedown but, again, Oezdimer defends. The men trade leg kicks. 45 seconds left in the second round. Reyes looks like he is having a hard time breathing. Nice inside low kick landed by Oezdimer. He pressures forward and looks for a takedown as the round ends.

Rround Three

Oezdimer takes to the center to start the final round. Reyes throws a lazy leg kick as Oezdimer shoots a takedown. The fighters scramble back to their feet. The pace has slowed substantially here in round three. Oezdimer moves forward and launches a right hand, Reyes answers with one of his own. Oezdimer fires off a head kick. He presses Reyes against the cage as to waste time. Less than two minutes to go. Reyes backs Oezdimer up and lands a hard body kick, he lands a right hook to the body as well. Reyes is moving forward and creating offense late in round three. He pops off a leg kick. They trade punches. Both men go out with a flurry.

British prospect Nathaniel Wood met Jose Alberto Quinonez in a featured main-card bantamweight bout at UFC on ESPN+ 5.

The 25-year-old Wood (15-3) will make his third walk to the Octagon on Saturday. He most recently defeated Andre Ewell at UFC 232 last December. As for Quinonez (7-2). After losing his first official UFC fight, he has rattled off four straight wins. A win over the highly touted Wood could elevate Quinonez’ stock considerably.

Round One

Quinonez lands a leg kick to start. Wood comes back with one of his own and lands a right hand. Quinonez looks for a takedown as he clinches Wood around the body. He drags Wood to the canvas and circles Wood. Wood hits a switch and gets back to his feet. Nicely done by the Brit. He throws a push kick that backs Quinonez up. Wood is throwing the left low leg kick quite often here early on. Quinonez fires one a leg kick off. Wood lands a straight right hand, he follows that with a jab that drops Quinonez. Wood looks for the darce choke, Quinonez spins out and gets to his feet. Quinonez throws a head kick. Wood connects on a leg kick. The fighters trade leg kicks and Wood cracks Quinonez with a right hand. Quinonez comes back with a one-two. Wood shoots a takedown as the round ends.

Round Two

Wood throws a leg kick that takes Quinonez off his feet briefly to start round two. Quinonez gets back up and eats a right hand. He grabs Wood and looks for a trip. Quinonez is pressing Wood up against the cage but Wood throws an elbow and breaks free. Again, Wood is relentless with the leg kicks. He is firing one after another. Wood misses a left hook and Quinonez dips under to grab the British fighter. Wood scrambles and takes Quinonez down. He spins to the back and locks in a choke. He sinks in his hooks and that’s a wrap.
