UFC London Tom Aspinall vs. Marcin Tybura Betting Preview

Almost a year to the day of his shocking knee injury suffered at UFC London against perennial contender, Curtis Blaydes, the hotly-tipped, Tom Aspinall is slated to make his Octagon comeback in the capital this weekend – closing as a hard and fast betting favorite to topple Polish veteran, Marcin Tybura in his combat sports return.

Aspinall, the current number five ranked heavyweight contender, has been sidelined from active mixed martial arts competition for a year ahead his comeback this weekend, suffering a catastrophic knee injury in the opening seconds of his second consecutive headliner on UK soil last summer.

Blowing out his knee inside just 15-seconds of the opening frame, Atherton native, Aspinall saw his promotional-perfect Octagon run come to a halt against Blaydes, with the Illinois native prospering from the former’s misfortune.

This weekend, on home soil once again, will attempt to return to the winner’s enclosure at UFC London – headlining an albeit lacklustre card, taking on heavyweight staple, Tybura.

And over on Betway at the time of publication, Aspinall can be backed as high as a -500 betting favorite to defeat the former M-1 Global heavyweight titleholder, with Tybura a hefty betting underdog at +300.

12-3 as a professional, Team Kaobon staple, Aspinall, who has been tipped to follow in the footsteps of fellow UK favorites, Michael Bisping, and current welterweight champion, Leon Edwards to himself secure gold in the future, will look to reignite that title run this weekend at The O2 Arena.

An alum of Cage Warriors, prior to his injury TKO loss to Blaydes, Aspinall had enjoyed a roughshod run through the heavyweight ranks in the UFC, toppling the likes of former champion, Andrei Arlovski, as well as upcoming UFC Paris headliner, Sergei Spivak, and in his premiere main event clash, Alexander Volkov.

And linked with a future championship outing – potentially as soon as his next bout, should he return triumphantly against Tybura this weekend in London, Aspinall has been backed to potential earn himself a blockbuster title pairing with current champion, Jon Jones, ahead of the American’s title fight return against Stipe Miocic in November at UFC 295.

Also closing as an impressive betting favorite over at Betway to boot, Liverpool veteran, Molly McCann is currently sitting as a -200 favorite to defeat the +150 betting underdog, Julija Stoliarenko in her return to the Octagon.

Sidelined since featuring against the highly-touted, Erin Blanchfield at UFC 281 back in November of last year at Madison Square Garden, McCann looks to bounce back to the winner’s enclosure following a hugely one-sided first round kimura loss to the New Jersey native.

In another interesting line ahead of UFC London, Scottish grappling ace, Paul Craig can be backed as a +175 betting underdog ahead of his fight with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu counterpart, Andre Muniz – with the Brazilian sat as a -225 betting favorite.

The pairing with come as Craig’s first at the middleweight limit over the course of his professional career, following back-to-back losses against both Volkan Oezdemir, and at the beginning of the year, Johnny Walker at UFC 283 in Brazil.

Slated to make his return from a brutal knee injury this weekend in the main event of UFC Fight Night London, Atherton native, Tom Aspinall has touted himself as the next heavyweight champion following the reign of current gold holder and pound-for-pound number one, Jon Jones.

Aspinall, the current number five ranked heavyweight contender, has been sidelined since he headlined a UFC London back in July of last year, suffering a debilitating knee injury in a 15-second TKO loss to perennial contender, Curtis Blaydes.

Riding a run of five consecutive victories to kick start his Octagon tenure prior to his loss to Blaydes last year, Tom Aspinall had turned in notable stoppage wins over both Sergei Spivak, as well as Alexander Volkov – the latter of which in a headlining slot in the capital back in March of last year.

Tom Aspinall confident of striking UFC gold next

Booked to return this weekend against Polish heavyweight veteran, Marcin Tybura, Aspinall has tipped himself to become the next heavyweight gold holder.

“[Marcin Tybura] got me at the worst time he could ever get me because I am unbelievably hungry right now,” Tom Aspinall told UFC.com. “I am ready to show everybody that I am just the next heavyweight champion, honestly. I’m ready to show everybody what I’m all about.”

Later this year, the aforenoted, Jones, a former two-time light heavyweight champion, is slated to make his first attempted heavyweight title defense, taking on the returning former two-time champion, Stipe Miocic at UFC 295 in November at Madison Square Garden.

Jones had struck vacant heavyweight gold back in March at UFC 285, submitting former interim heavyweight champion, Ciryl Gane with a first round guillotine choke submission win.

Justin Gaethje has something to prove in his return to the Octagon.

‘The Highlight’ heads to London for a co-main event showdown with rising lightweight contender Rafael Fiziev at UFC 286 on March 18. It’s been nearly a year since Gaethje suffered a first-round submission loss to then-lightweight champion Charles Oliveira. With it being his second failed attempt to capture UFC gold, Gaethje is eager to quiet his detractors and reward his supporters with a return to the win column.

Documenting his march to London in a video series on YouTube, Justin Gaethje briefly revealed that going into a fight after a loss is understandably difficult, but he’s determined to hush the haters that believe he’ll be nothing more than a gatekeeper for the division.

“Coming off a loss is always a little different to coming off a win, especially after a loss in a championship fight,” Gaethje said. “Lot to prove. There’s a lot of haters to shut up and a lot of believers to prove right. So it’s a fun ride, man, it’s been a fun ride since day one.”

With losses against both Charles Oliveira and Khabib Nurmagomedov in UFC title fights, it’s clear that Justin Gaethje’s Achilles heel is his wrestling. Fortunately, ‘The Highlight’ won’t have to worry much about that as his next opponent, Rafael Fiziev, has established himself as one of the division’s top strikers. Going 6-1 inside the Octagon, Fiziev has earned knockouts in 50% of those victories guaranteeing that fans will see fireworks when the two top lightweights square off in ‘The Big Smoke’ on March 18.

Debuting for the promotion in 2017, Justin Gaethje has gone 6-4 inside the Octagon. Prior to that, he earned 10 straight victories including an impressive run as the World Series of Fighting lightweight champion. He defended the title five times before signing with the UFC. In 2020, ‘The Highlight’ captured the UFC interim lightweight title, defeating Tony Ferguson at UFC 249. He came up short in a title unification bout with Khabib Nurmagomedov five months later.

Jordan Leavitt UFC London Paddy Pimblett Degenerates

Over seven months removed from his UFC London submission loss to polarizing lightweight contender, Paddy Pimblett, Syndicate MMA challenger, Jordan Leavitt has revealed he is still receiving hateful and abusive messages from fans of the Liverpool native, labelling the entire attendance at the O2 Arena in July as “degenerates”.

Leavitt, who slumped to 10-2 as a professional with his eventual third round rear-naked choke submission loss to former Cage Warriors featherweight champion Pimblett, is slated to return at UFC Vegas 70 next weekend against Victor Martinez.

Prior to his submission loss to the outspoken Liverpool native, Leavitt had landed consecutive wins over both Matt Sayles, and Trey Ogden, having previously landed a slam KO win over Matt Wiman in his UFC debut.

Jordan Leavitt reveals he is still receiving hate messages following his loss to Paddy Pimblett

Set to make his return against Martinez before the close of this month, Leavitt reflected on the media and fan response from his loss to Pimblett last summer, explaining how he still receives trolling and hateful messages from the latter.

“London sucks,” Jordan Leavitt told LowKick MMA reporter, Alex Behunin. “I’m never leaving the country (United States) again, America is the greatest country in the damn world. Throughout all of history – I don’t need to visit anywhere else to know that for truth. But, I’m kind of, you know – I’m really annoyed that I lost, I’m still embarrassed. I still have Paddy (Pimblett) fans that message crap to me. And I know if I block them – if I show them that they won, so I can’t block them, they’re never going to go away, and I hate you, I hate you so much.”

“… I’m annoyed by the loss, I learned a lot,” Jordan Leavitt explained. “But I’m never going to fight in front of a crowd as hostile as that. And in conclusion, people who get drunk like that before 9pm are degenerates. It was an entire arena of degenerates.”

“I learned a lot of that part of the fight game – about the social media game, the journalism game, the interview game,” Jordan Leavitt explained. “I’m jaded – I’m a little jaded. And I gotta highlight this kids, so you care about me again. And only my boy Alex cares.”

In his sole other professional loss, Leavitt suffered a defeat against Peruvian grappler, Claudio Puelles – and has managed to land an impressive six separate career submission victories.

Paddy Pimblett to have ankle surgery in March, UFC London appearance now in question

Paddy Pimblett ankle UFC London

Paddy Pimblett‘s appearance at this year’s UFC London event is now in question after he recently disclosed on his youtube channel that ankle surgery is needed due to injuries sustained during his last outing at UFC 282.

‘The Baddy’ has said that sometime in March is when he’s having the surgery, which obviously conflicts with the timing of UFC London, as UFC 286 is currently scheduled to go down on the 18th of March.

UFC 286 will feature the trilogy fight between Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman for the undisputed welterweight championship. It’s supposed to have a co-main event of Justin Gaethje vs. Rafael Fiziev, which would undoubtedly deliver fireworks and almost unmatchable intensity and explosivity. As of right now, UFC 286 is still several months away, so the order of fights could change, and bouts can also fall off or be added at any time.

Paddy Pimblett’s ankle surgery to delay the return of ‘The Baddy’

On a six-fight winning streak, with four of those victories coming from inside the UFC, Paddy Pimblett is one of the most sensational stars to grace the octagon in quite some time. He’s got the notable look, the gift of gab, and the big winning streak. However, his last performance against Jared Gordon at UFC 282 left many wondering if he has the actual skills to continue his Conor Mcgregor-Esque run and attain championship status.

The fight between Gordon and Pimblett was uncomfortably close. It resulted in a decision victory for ‘The Baddy’, but this left many angered. In fact, many called it a downright robbery, and lots of fans felt Pimblett got exposed in his last outing. One thing is for certain, though, and that’s the fact that Paddy Pimblett did not leave that fight unscathed: suffering a major ankle injury that will now require surgery.

News of this was first released by Pimblett himself on his own youtube channel, where he has a recurring VLOG series that showcases his adventures as a martial arts superstar. In a recent episode, the camera shows Pimblett lightly grappling with some of the youth at his gym before the scene cuts and shows ‘The Baddy’ and crew at the doctors. An x-ray is on a flatscreen TV, and a doctor is explaining it while pointing to several red flags hidden inside the x-ray.

A small amount of cartilage lost and built-up fluid is what is primarily mentioned by the doctor. Soon, text appears on screen: giving the news that Paddy Pimblett will indeed require surgery in March.

A high-stakes lightweight fight between former interim division champion, the #3 ranked contender, Justin Gaethje, and surging challenger, the #6 rated, Rafael Fiziev is close to being finalized for UFC 286 on March 18. from The O2 Arena in London, England.

Gaethje, a former interim 155lbs champion under the banner of the UFC, headlined UFC 274 most recently back in May of last year in Phoenix, Arizona – suffering a first round rear-naked choke loss to former undisputed champion, Charles Oliveira.

For Fiziev, the streaking Tiger Muay Thai staple recorded his sixth consecutive victory under the UFC banner back in July of last year in a main event slot against former undisputed champion, Rafael dos Anjos, securing a fifth round KO win.

London. Justin Gaethje (@Justin_Gaethje) vs. Rafael Fiziev (@RafaelFiziev) is nearly finalized for UFC 286 on March 18. Nos. 3 and 6 at lightweight to meet. What a fight.”

Justin Gaethje defeated Tony Ferguson in 2020 to win interim lightweight gold

Clinching the interim UFC lightweight title back in 2020, Gaethje snapped the division-best winning spree of fellow former interim gold holder, Tony Ferguson at 12 straight fights – courtesy of a fifth round TKO win.

Failing to successfully unify the lightweight titles against the now-retired, Khabib Nurmagomedov in September of that year in Abu Dhabi, UAE, Gaethje returned to defeat Michael Chandler at UFC 268 in November 2021 before his title challenge loss to Oliveira last May.

Prior to his UFC debut back in 2017, Gaethje was a former WSOF (now PFL) lightweight champion, and has landed other Octagon wins over the likes of Donald Cerrone, and Edson Barboza to boot.

Embarking on an impressive winning spree since dropping his UFC debut loss to Magomed Mustafaev, Fiziev has landed victories over the quarter of Renato Moicano, Bobby Green, Brad Riddell, and the aforenoted, dos Anjos in the last two years.

UFC 286 takes place on March 18. from The O2 Arena in London, England – with an official main event bout for the card yet to be determined by the organization.
