A highly anticipated middleweight showdown went down earlier today (February 27, 2016) as former long-time champion Anderson Silva returned to action to meet British star Michael “The Count” Bisping.
Fans were undoubtedly given a treat, as the two men went to war for five rounds.
There was even some controversy when Silva landed a brutal flying knee that dropped “The Count” as the bell rang to end the third round. “The Spider” began to celebrate as if he had won the fight, but referee Herb Dean didn’t stop the contest.
Bisping would go on to score a huge upset win with a unanimous decision in front of his home country, truly a special moment for “The Count”.
Check out how twitter reacted to the bout below:
This is the first time I’ve ever pulled for Bisping and it definitely won’t be my last. What a true warrior. #respect#ufclondon

UFC London went down this evening (Saturday February 27, 2016) featuring a middleweight main event between Anderson Silva and Michael Bisping…
Another UFC fight weekend in the books, and this time it was UFC Fight Night 84 on offer. The promotion returned to England’s capital city with an exciting line-up of local talent on the prelims, and one of the most well known and decorated fighters in the sport’s history in the main event.
Anderson Silva vs. Michael Bisping was the main attraction of the night, but also appearing on the card was a co-main middleweight scrap between Gegard Mousasi and Thales Leites. Brad Pickett and Francisco Rivera represented the bantamweights, and giant welterweight prospect from Tristar Tom Breese faced Keita Nakamura.

Anderson Silva vs. Michael Bisping: Mike Drahota: There’s no doubt that Silva certainly deserves a spot among the fight game’s greats for his record-setting title reign and unparalleled knockout prowess in the Octagon. There’s no doubt that Silva certainly deserves a spot among the fight game’s greats for his record-setting title reign and unparalleled knockout prowess in the Octagon. However, weighing in his recent drug test failures and suspensions, his injury, and th fact that he doesn’t have an official win since 2012, I was actually leaning towards Bisping. That changed when the two were face-to-face, as Silva undoubtedly got the better of the loudmouth ‘Count,’ who seemingly reverted back to his more brash heel ways for this bout. While the Cypriot has looked very serviceable during his recent two-fight win streak, Silva seems motivated and angry like he was against Chael Sonnen, and that should spell trouble for Bisping. Silva via round two TKO.
Rory Kernaghan:
I can’t say it was difficult picking this fight at all. Outside his high pace and cardio-based gameplan, there’s unfortunately not much more I can say Michael Bisping offers Anderson Silva. The former middleweight champion has the footwork, the striking power and speed advantage, the height and reach advantage, and the Jiu-jitsu advantage. It would be foolish to think this fight would go any other way except ‘The Spider’s’ in such a pairing, Anderson Silva by knockout round one.
Mike Henken:
I completely understand that “The Spider” is not the same version of himself that once ruled the middleweight division for nearly seven years. Winless since 2012, Silva suffered a gruesome broken leg back in 2013, and is now returning after a yearlong layoff after testing positive for steroids in a fight that he didn’t look amazing in anyway. However, I just have a feeling in my gut that we may see some glimpses of vintage Silva and his elite level Muay Thai on display in London. Bisping has looked good on his recent two-fight win streak, and has always possessed solid footwork, crisp combos, and strong cardio. At the end of the day, however, I see the man many consider the greatest of all-time getting it done early. Silva by second round TKO.
Gegard Mousasi vs. Thales Leites:
Mike Drahota:
The middleweight co-main event may not have anywhere near the amount of attention the main event is generating, but it’s nonetheless a pivotal affair for both ranked fighters. Mousasi should look to keep this one standing and use his laser-precise jab to pick Leites apart on the feet, but if the Brazilian learned anything from his split decision loss to Bisping, he’ll look to drag this fight to the ground and utilize his world champion-level BJJ skills. I feel like he’ll be able to at some point, and while it may not lead to a stoppage, I still feel Leites gets the win. I’m taking Leites by unanimous decision.
Rory Kernaghan:
Gegard Mousasi and Thales Leites is a great match for the grappling fans, but one I feel will play out on the feet. With the Brazilian looking to showcase his striking a lot more in his latest fights, I feel he’ll look to capitalize on the openings that Mousasi has shown in his recent outings ‘The Dreamcatcher’ has experienced mixed results since joining the UFC, but this could well motivate him to pull a performance out of the bag here. It’s a tough one but I’m going to pick Leites by decision.
Mike Henken:
This is an interesting clash between two dangerous fighters who are both coming off of losses. Mousasi hasn’t lived up to his hype in the UFC in my opinion, but I still feel as if he has a lot of a potential to do so. An experienced kickboxer, “The Dreamcatcher” has a wide array of striking attacks in his arsenal to go along with a slick and sneaky submission game. Leites, on the other hand, is a strong Brazilian Jiu-jitsu artist with serious power in his hands. I don’t see “The Dreamcatcher” getting submitted here, and if he can avoid the big shots standing, it’s his fight to lose. Expect Mousasi to pick apart Leites on the outside to earn a decision victory.

Another UFC fight weekend is finally upon us, as we look forward to the return of former middleweight champion Anderson Silva against outspoken veteran Michael Bisping…
UFC Fight Night 84 goes down in the English capital of London this coming Saturday February 27, and is highlighted by a feature middleweight showdown. The main of UFC London pits former middleweight champion Anderson Silva against Michael Bisping, and they’ve shared quite the theatrical rivalry. In an odd twist of fortune though, their battle has gone by on the quiet so far, mostly due to the drama and headline news surrounding Conor McGregor and UFC 196.
As far as the rest of the UFC Fight Night 84 card is concerend, it’s got some serious chops. Tristar prospect Tom Breese faces Keita Nakamura, the co-main event sees Gegard Mousasi vs. Thales Leites, Francisco Rivera meets Brad Pickett in a bantamweight bout, and Makwan Amirkhani faces Mike Wilkinson on Fight Pass.
Thjere’s a host of other exciting scraps featuring local (ish) fighters, who’ll all be hitting the scales at 11 AM ET today. Join us here for the live streaming UFC Fight Night 84 weigh-ins, or check in right after for the updated results!

With the anticipated return of Anderson “The Spider” Silva (33-6) this Saturday all the focus has been on the main event. While the promotion leading up the event have been largely on the co-main and main event fighters, a fighter to look out for on Saturday is Makwan Amirkhani (12-2) when he faces Mike Wilkinson (9-1).
“Mr. Finland” created a lot of hype for himself after his debut in the UFC. He TKO’d Andy Ogle in just 8 seconds in the first round last January. He went on to submit Masio Fullen last June when he fought in Germany. That fight also lasted in just the first round. In Amirkhani’s two fights, he has only been inside the cage for 1 minute and 49 seconds.
He is a tall fighter for the UFC Featherweight division, standing at 5-foot-10 inches tall with a 72-inch reach. He grew up as a wrestler in both Greco-roman and Freestyle before making the move to MMA.
Although impressive with his abilities inside the cage, Makwan Amirkhani is just as impressive for his talk outside the cage and his charismatic persona.
In an interview with Fox Sports, he was asked if there was anything impressive about his upcoming opponent Wilkinson.
“Yeah probably his girlfriend. Nothing else.”
According to Bloody Elbow, he said that Wilkinson has “one week left, so he better enjoy it with his family, before I come to London and make everybody cry there.”
He also lets people know that he is better looking than everyone else in the UFC. Fox Sports also asked him what it was like to train in Stockholm before his debut against Andy Ogle.
“Everything is much better. I’m more dangerous and powerful, faster more handsome because I’m hanging out with my friends ins Sweden, and it’s like normal for them to look good, so I have to keep up with that.”
The 27 year-old has a large social media presence as well through his Instagram account. He posted a video of himself eating an apple before his UFC debut fight against Ogle that went viral. Take a look:
Amirkhani was asked about the apple in the post-fight press conference at UFC on Fox: Gustafsson vs. Johnson and said that girls would send him friend requests, compliment his smile, and the way he eat the apple.
Surely enough, the Kurd-born fighter has taken the MMA community by storm with his mix of charm outside the cage and deadly skills inside. He will gain an even bigger presence now that the featherweight trains at SBG Ireland with the likes of Conor McGregor, Artem Lobov, and Gunnar Nelson.
Makwan Amirkhani has all the essentials needed to become a mainstream fighter. He is poised to become a star in the UFC if he can continue to win and climb up the ladder of the featherweight division.
Amirkhani will headline the preliminary card of UFC Fight Night: Silva vs. Bisping this Saturday on UFC Fight Pass.
