Mark Hunt has come to the save of the UFC and their main event for the upcoming UFC Moscow event.

If you recall, former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum was initially set to fight Alexey Oleynik in the main event of UFC Moscow but plans changed once it was revealed that he had to be pulled from the bout after failing a USADA drug test.

Now, Hunt is slated to take on the fellow heavyweight at this event after the fight was reported back in May by ESPN but the UFC UFC officially announced the fight Thursday morning through the power of social media.

Hunt has hit some rough times as of late by going 1-2-1 in his last four bouts including suffering losses to Brock Lesnar, which was later ruled a no-contest, Alistair Overeem, and Curtis Blaydes while his only victory coming over Derrick Lewis last June in New Zealand. Hunt has fought some of the greatest fighters in the history of the sport including former champion Frank Mir, Derrick Lewis and Roy Nelson throughout his tenure with the promotion.

On the flip side, Oleynik is coming off of an Ezekiel choke victory over Junior Albini at UFC 224 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and before that, he had won two of his previous three fights.

UFC Moscow (UFC Fight Night 136) is set to take place on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Olimpiyskiy Arena in Moscow, Russia with the main card airing on FOX Sports 1 at while the preliminary card will be split broadcasted on FOX Sports 1 and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass. Andrei Arlovski has his next fight booked and it will go down at UFC Moscow.

The former UFC heavyweight champion is slated to meet Shamil Abdurakhimov in a heavyweight bout at this upcoming event. The fight was first reported by MMAjunkie and later announced by Arlovski’s management on Instagram.

Arlovski is slated to make some history when he steps into the Octagon under the UFC banner for this bout as it will mark his 27th UFC heavyweight appearance.

As a result, this will tie fellow former UFC heavyweight champion  Frank Mir for the most fights in divisional history.

The only difference is the fact that he has the chance to separate from Mir for the most wins in the history of the weight class, with both currently at 16. Mir is currently under contract with the Viacom-owned promotion, Bellator MMA.

On the flip side, the Russian fighter has won three of his past four fights. By accepting this fight, he is slated to try to score the biggest win of his pro-MMA career against the former UFC heavyweight champion.

Report: Mark Hunt To Replace Fabricio Werdum At UFC Moscow

It appears as if UFC Moscow has a new main event:

The post Report: Mark Hunt To Replace Fabricio Werdum At UFC Moscow appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Earlier this week, it was reported that former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum would be taking on Alexey Oleynik in the main event of UFC Moscow, which will represent the UFC’s first trip to Russia and take place on September 15 at the Olympic Stadium.

Then, however, news broke that Werdum had been flagged by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) for a potential anti-doping violation, forcing the promotion to move on without him.

And it looks like the UFC has done just that, as multiple reports have surfaced indicating that a bout between veteran Mark Hunt and Oleynik is now in the works to headline the event.

The news was first reported by MMATeamDagestan on Twitter and later confirmed by MMAFighting.com’s Ariel Helwani.

The 44-year-old Hunt has hit some rough times as of late, going 1-2-1 in his last four bouts. During that stretch, he’s suffered losses to Brock Lesnar, which was later ruled a no-contest, Alistair Overeem, and Curtis Blaydes, with the victory coming over Derrick Lewis last June in New Zealand.

Oleynik, meanwhile, is coming off of an Ezekiel choke victory over Junior Albini at UFC 224 earlier this month in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Prior to that, he had won two of his previous three fights.
