UFC 278

UFC 278 is finally upon us, and we at LowKickMMA are here to give you our top 3 bets for this PPV event.

Kamaru Usman and Leon Edwards clash in an electric main event whilst former champ Luke Rockhold squares off with Paulo Costa in the co-main. A future Hall of Famer in Jose Aldo will share the cage with rising contender Merab Dvalishvili, and an undefeated heavyweight prospect named Alexandr Romanov faces a big litmus test as he takes on Marcin Tybura.

Join us at LowKickMMA as we break down three of our best bets for UFC 278!

Paulo Costa by KO/TKO

Our first pick will be for Brazilain powerhouse Paulo Costa to KO/TKO former UFC champ Luke Rockhold. The reasoning behind the bet is simple. Paulo Costa is a freak athlete with tons of power. Luke Rockhold is now 37 years old, and has been knocked out in three of his last four.

We’re taking Costa by KO/TKO, which is priced at 1.61 on Betway.

Jose Aldo ML

It’s very rare that a fighter with such skill and prestige as Jose Aldo is an underdog. However, the reasoning behind it in this case is understandable, as the King of Rio is taking on tenatious up-and-comer Merab Dvalishvili. The surging Georgian is one of the best wrestlers in the division, which, when paired with an inexhaustible gas tank, makes him a major threat to every fighter in the top 15.

But Jose Aldo has made a career off of defeating pressure-based wrestlers. The former 145lb champion has overcome the likes of Chad Mendes and Frankie Edgar, two of the best to do it, in their primes no less. If Aldo can keep the fight standing, there is no reason to think that he won’t just light Merab up on the feet.

This bet could be a bit dicey, but Aldo has all the tools necessary to win this fight. We will take his ML which Betway have priced at 2.10.

Parlay – Romanov ML, Woodson ML, Albazi ML

Our final bet is a parlay between three favorites on this card.

First is Alexandr Romanov, an undefeated 16-0 Moldovan UFC heavyweight who takes on Marcin Tybura. Romanov’s wrestling and top control is of an elite caliber, and he will likely dominate this fight from the get go. Look for an early ground and pound finish from ‘King Kong.’

Second is Sean Woodson. ‘The Sniper’ lives up to his nickname every time he steps in the octagon. His long arms allow him to utilise his excellent long-range boxing game, which will cause his opponent, Luis Saldaña, non stop trouble.

To round out our parlay, we are backing Amir Albazi to defeat Francisco Figueiredo. Albazi is one of top prospects in the division, and whilst his opponent may have a famous surname, he is not the fighter his brother is. Albazi should have the advantage in this fight wherever it goes.

A parlay consisting of these three UFC fighters can be found at 1.92 odds on Betway.

Jorge Masvidal predicts UFC 278 main event between Kamaru Usman and Leon Edwards: “It’s not like Usman is perfect”

UFC welterweight, Jorge Masvidal shares his thoughts on this weekend’s main event between Kamaru Usman and Leon Edwards.

Reigning welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman is set to make his sixth title defense when he takes on Leon Edwards, nearly seven years on from their first meeting back in 2015.

Both have gone undefeated since their first fight, beating names such as Colby Covington, Nate Diaz, Gilbert Burns, and Rafael dos Anjos between them.

While the bookmakers have Usman as a sizeable favorite at -400, Edwards is expected to present Usman with some problems, with some believing there will be a new champion come Sunday morning.

Jorge Masvidal weighs in

‘BMF’ champion, Jorge Masvidal, recently shared his thoughts on the main event, feeling Usman’s wrestling may be the deciding factor, but giving Edwards a fighting chance

“I think Kamaru wins. I don’t think he stops him or nothing, I just think he wins. I think he finds a way to get him, take him down, control him, throw a couple strikes, take him down, you know?” Jorge Masvidal told MMAFighting.

“I could see Leon winning, you know, cause it’s a fight, anybody could win, I could see him catch him with a head kick or a knee or something and stopping him because it’s not like Usman is perfect. Nobody is perfect in this sport. He could easily get caught and get put away. But I’m leaning towards Usman.”

Masvidal has history with both fighters, having fought Usman twice in two failed attempts to win the welterweight title. In the first, Masvidal would step in on late notice to face Usman, a bout he would lose by a wide decision. The rematch however would be an ugly affair for ‘Gamebred’, as he would be knocked out cold by Usman in the second round.

As for Edwards, Masvidal would send shockwaves around the MMA world when after defeating Darren Till in London, he would have a backstage fight with Edwards.

Masvidal would approach Edwards with his hand behind his back before punching the Jamaican multiple time in the face, then birthing the now infamous ‘thee piece and a soda’ phrase.

UFC president, Dana White labels Luke Rockhold’s recent criticisms of the healthcare provided by the UFC as ‘f***ing gibberish.’

This Saturday will mark former UFC middleweight champion, Luke Rockhold, after three years away from competition.

Rockhold has been unforgiving during his fight week media duties. The former Strikeforce champion has sounded off on reporters, his opponent, and even the UFC itself. The 37-year-old was extremely critical of the UFC, lambasting the promotion for their treatment of fighters, stating that fighters’ healthcare “needs to be taken care of.”

“These guys don’t know what they’re doing, and they’re letting Dana just run the show and suppress the sport,” Rockhold said. “They need to grow. This whole f*cking thing needs to grow together. Our lives are on the f*cking line. Healthcare needs to be taken care of. Our f*cking health needs to be taken care of. Mine has not been taken care of.”

Dana White responds to Luke Rockhold

It wouldn’t take long for Dana White to respond to Rockhold’s complaints and the ever-outspoken White did not hold back.

“That’s something we’ve been working on since day one,” White told TSN. “While they’re fighting here, these guys are very well taken care of, and so is Luke Rockhold.”

White would label Rockhold’s rant as ‘gibberish’ and ‘bulls**t’, this is not the only time that White has gone off on people who have questioned the promotions business practices. The long-time promoter has sounded off on reporters and fighters alike.

“Luke Rockhold was above and beyond taken care of with the issues that he had here,” White said. “I don’t give a sh*t what health insurance plan you have, they would have never covered the things that we covered for Luke Rockhold when he was going through his stuff. Everything he said was absolute f*cking gibberish and absolute bullsh*t.” (H/T MMAJunkie)
