Israel Adesanya

Reigning UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya has already spent two rounds inside the Octagon against recent headliner, Paulo Costa as well as eight separate rounds with Marvin Vettori in one-sided victories. And has concluded that both middleweight contenders are less than desirable off the back of their acclaimed UFC Vegas 41 headliner last year.

Adesanya, a staple of City Kickboxing, is targeted to make his Octagon return on February 12. at UFC 271 in his middleweight title rematch against former undisputed kingpin, Robert Whittaker — off the back of a second career decision victory over the aforenoted, Vettori in June of this year at UFC 262.

Taking main event status at UFC Vegas 41 last weekend despite a turbulent fight week which witnessed several alterations to the originally agreed upon weight limit, Costa met with Kings MMA trainee, Vettori in an eventual light heavyweight showdown.

Headlining the 14-fight card at the UFC Apex facility, Costa and Vettori went the allotted 25-minute distance in their light heavyweight matchup, with Vettori taking home a unanimous decision (48-46, 48-46, 48-46) victory over the Brazilian — who was deducted a point in the second round due to an unintentional eye poke.

Israel Adesanya concludes that both Paulo Costa and Marvin Vettori are sh*t off the back of UFC Vegas 41

Sharing his thoughts on the light heavyweight main event between his past title rivals, Adesanya pretended to fall asleep at one stage during the main event bout while viewing — before remarking, “I told you they’re both sh*t” in reference to Costa and Vettori.

[Costa] did right,” Israel Adesanya said. “Inside leg kicks, I wish he did that more, I wish he stayed with the inside leg kicks because that was working. He tried to hip feint at one point but it was like, this close. It’s like, bro, this what ‘Twist’ (coach Tristam Apikotoa) says, people try to copy what we do but they don’t understand the levels or the uses of what we’re doing. They just think, ‘That looks pretty. Everyone’s using that.’ They try to copy it, but it’s not the same.” (H/T MMA Fighting)

Prior to June’s second career win over Vettori, Adesanya lodged the second successful title defense of his middleweight reign with an eye-catching high kick and strikes knockout win over the above mentioned Belo Horizonte native, Costa at UFC 253 in September of last year on ‘Fight Island’.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk

Joanna Jedrzejczyk has spoken out for the first time since she was pulled from the strawweight rankings due to inactivity.

The former champion hasn’t fought since March 2020 when she went five hard rounds with Zhang Weili and was unlucky to come away with a split decision defeat in what was the Fight of the Year.

On Monday, rumours began to swirl about Jedrzejczyk’s UFC future when people noticed she had been removed from the rankings pool. MMA reporter Mike Bohn later confirmed that the Polish striker is still on the UFC roster but has been pulled from the rankings due to inactivity. He also noted that Jedrzejczyk is expected to make her return to the Octagon in the first quarter of 2022.

“Joanna Jedrzejczyk’s removal from the UFC rankings is due to inactivity, I’m told,” Bohn tweeted. “She’s still on the roster and will be reinserted when she returns to competition. Likely around March 2022.“

Jedrzejczyk was sitting in the #2 spot in the official strawweight rankings, only beneath the former champion and her one-time foe Weili at the time of her removal. Another former champion, Carla Esparza has now taken her spot and deservedly so after putting together five straight wins at 115lbs.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk Is Unfazed By Her Removal From The Rankings

The former strawweight queen has since taken to social media to react to her removal from the rankings and to promise her fans that she will be back in action “soon”.

“@mickmaynard2 This one was special for you this morning Be prepared for strong (real hard) negotiations,” Jedrzejczyk wrote on her Instagram story alongside a video of her lifting weights.

“Guys! Please do not care about rankings Rankings don’t compete I’ll be back soon… promise What’s meant to be will always find its way,” she added.

Do you think it was fair for the UFC to remove Joanna Jedrzejczyk from the strawweight rankings due to inactivity?

Former Strikeforce champion Josh Thomson claims Nate Diaz will be leaving the UFC after his next fight.

The fan favourite hasn’t fought since dropping to a decision defeat against Leon Edwards at UFC 263 in June. Diaz was outgunned for large portions of the history-making five-round fight but almost sprung an upset in the dying embers of the bout. Diaz had ‘Rocky’ on wobbly legs in the final frame but was unable to capitalize fully before the round and fight came to an end.

A fight between Diaz and Vicente Luque has been on the table for some time now but is yet to be signed. MMA manager Ali Abdelaziz revealed that Diaz has a contract issue with the UFC which is holding up negotiations.

Dana White later confirmed rumours that Diaz has just one fight on his UFC contract and claimed he was working to book the Stockton, California native in what could be his final fight for the promotion.

“Yeah, he’s got one more fight,” White said. “We’re working on a fight for him. Tony wasn’t one of those guys we were working on but we’re working on a fight for Nate now. He’s got one fight left.”

Former Nate Diaz Opponent Claims He Will Leave The UFC

According to Bellator commentator and popular podcaster, Thomson, his former foe is dead set on leaving the UFC when his contract expires.

“I want you guys all to know this. He [Nate Diaz] is leaving the UFC.” Thomson said on his ‘Weighing In’ podcast with John McCarthy.“He’s fighting Jake Paul. They’re going to fight. That fight’s gonna happen.”

White seemed relaxed about Diaz’s contract situation during a recent chat with TSN. The UFC boss said that if Diaz thinks he can still compete with the best in the world he’ll sign a new multi-fight deal to fight in the UFC.

“That’s up to him,” White said when about Diaz’s future. “I mean that is a decision he needs to make. Listen, for a lot of these guys… There’s no secret about it. If you believe that you are one of the best in the world and if you believe that you can win a world title here, or hang with the top five. Then this is where you should be. The minute you start doubting that is the case, you’ve got to start looking at other options.” (Transcribed by BJPENN.com)

Do you think Josh Thomson is right? Will Nate Diaz leave the UFC when his contract is up?

Hasbulla

Internet sensation Hasbulla Magomedov AKA ‘Mini Khabib’ is expected to be in attendance at UFC 267 in Abu Dhabi to support his countryman, Islam Makhachev who squares off against Dan Hooker on the card.

MMA reporter Dan Segura announced on Monday that Hasbulla will be in attendance at UFC 267.

Hasbulla is expected to attend #UFC267 in support of Islam Makhachev. Confirmed with PFL’s Movlid Khaybulaev,” Segura wrote on social media.

The 18-year-old viral sensation has childlike characteristics such as stunted growth and a high voice which is believed to be caused by a form of dwarfism. Hasbulla has become a social media celebrity off the back of a mock press conference ahead of his proposed fight with Abdu Rozik.

It appears unlikely that the teenager will actually ever fight which will be music to the ears of the head of Russia’s Dwarf Athletic Association, Uliana Podpalnaya, who called the potential mixed martial arts fight between Magomedov and Rozik “unethical”.

Hasbulla has become particularly popular in the world of MMA for his various call-out videos. Former UFC dual-weight champion Henry Cejudo appears to be his preferred opponent because they are a “similar size”. Cejudo played along with the joke and has been interacting with Hasbulla online.

Will you be excited to see Hasbulla in attendance at UFC 267?

Ilia Topuria

The battle of two undefeated featherweights Movsar Evloev and Ilia Topuria has been canceled after Evloev was forced to withdraw from the bout due to a positive COVID-19 test.

Soon after news of Evloev’s withdrawal became known, Topuria was immediately hot on the trail in pursuit of a replacement.

“Bad news! @MovsarUFC is out. We already knew that this was gonna happen. @Dynamitedan808, are you up for a fight? Let me know ASAP and if you are down, hope to see you January 22. Let’s go!”

Dan Ige is currently ranked #9 in the division while Topuria is unranked, so the callout certainly makes sense for Topuria, who is coming off a vicious KO win over Ryan Hall at UFC 264.

The 24-year-old was ranked 15th at featherweight not too long ago and is 3-0 in the UFC. He made his debut on short notice back on Fight Island in October of 2020 as he beat Youssef Zalal by decision. In his next fight, he scored another highlight-reel vicious KO over Damon Jackson last December.

Movsar Evloev (15-0) last fought back at UFC 263 as he beat Hakeem Dawdou by decision it was his fifth fight inside the Octagon. The 27-year-old gas beat Nik Lentz by split decision, Mike Grundy, Enrique Barzola, and Seung Woo Choi, all by decision in the UFC. He’s currently the 13th-ranked featherweight and is the former M-1 bantamweight champion.

There is no word on if Topuria will remain on the card as he wishes or if this fight will be rescheduled.

With this cancellation the updated UFC 270 lineup is as follows:

  • UFC Heavyweight Championship Bout: Francis Ngannou (c) vs. Ciryl Gane
  • UFC Flyweight Championship Bout: Brandon Moreno (c) vs. Deiveson Figueiredo
  • Derek Brunson vs. Jared Cannonier
  • Greg Hardy vs. Aleksi Oleinik
  • Wellington Turman vs. Rodolfo Vieira
  • Michel Pereira vs. Andre Fialho
  • Poliana Botelho vs. Ji Yeon Kim
  • Said Nurmagomedov vs. Cody Stamann
  • Trevin Giles vs. Michael Morales
  • Matt Frevola vs. Genaro Valdez
  • Raoni Barcelos vs. Victor Henry
  • Kay Hansen vs. Jasmine Jasudavicius
  • Tony Gravely vs. Saimon Oliveira

UFC 267

After a month of less than impressive fight cards, the UFC is finally back to its brilliant best on October 30 with UFC 267 which boasts two title fights and a bumper undercard that will all be free to watch this weekend.

In the main event of the evening, Jan Blachowicz will aim to make a second successful defence of his light-heavyweight title. Glover Teixeira is the man tasked with stopping the streaking European, in his second shot at 205lb UFC gold.

Before that, Petr Yan will look to quickly become a champion once again after losing his bantamweight title earlier this year due to being disqualified from his UFC 259 fight against Aljamain Sterling. ‘The Funk Master’ was unable to make his rematch booking with Yan, so in steps Cory Sandhagen for a shot at arguably the best 135lb fighter on the planet and the chance to win the interim bantamweight title.

Away from the title fights, we have a three-round bout between two of the best lightweight on the planet in Dan Hooker and Islam Makhachev. Khamzat Chimaev also makes his eagerly anticipated return to action when he takes on Li Jingliang.

Join LowKickMMA as we preview, predict, and hopefully win some money betting on the UFC 267 main card.

If you’re going to follow our picks, be sure to check out odds trading to ensure you always get the best payout.

Jan Blachowicz vs. Glover Teixeira

According to the bookmakers, Jan Blachowicz has a relatively easy light-heavyweight defence at UFC 267. The Polish knockout artist is priced at -300 to retain his title against +240 underdog Glover Teixeira. While we agree Blachowicz is likely to defend his title we also find these odds somewhat disrespectful to the Brazilian who has more than earned his second shot at UFC gold. Teixeira has won five successive fights, beating the likes of Thiago Santos and Anthony Smith on his way back to title contention. He won’t be a pushover. However, we simply cannot bet against the champ right now. Blachowicz is in the form of his life and will definitely be going on our parlay. Although you might want to look into alternatives rather than straight betting on this fight as -300 offers no value for bettors.

Petr Yan vs. Cory Sandhagen

This is another fight we think the bookmakers are off on to some degree. Petr Yan is arguably the best bantamweight fighter on the planet right now. The Russian was well on his way to beating Aljamain Sterling before he was unfortunately disqualified from the bout and therefore lost his title. However, Cory Sandhagen is for our money the toughest opponent he could currently face. Stylistically he could prove a nightmare of the former champ and we’re sure plenty of people will be fancying him to cause the upset at +220. However, we won’t be doing that. Although the -222 odds are a little short we still think Yan is a good bet at UFC 267. We expect him to prove he is still the best at 135lbs by making a statement against arguably his toughest opponent to date.

Dan Hooker vs. Islam Makhachev

Once again, the bookies are getting carried away with the hype. Islam Makhachev has been impressive for the majority of his UFC career, but Dan Hooker is a couple of levels above any opponent the Russian has ever faced, and in no way, shape, or form should he be a monumental +450 underdog going into this one. Not long ago Hooker pushed Dustin Poirier hard for five rounds. Makhachev, although likened to Khabib Nurmagomedov by many, has not yet proven he is of that caliber and it’s hard to justify betting on him at -600. For that reason, we’ll be having a dabble on Hooker who might just derail the latest Dagestani hype train at UFC 267.

Alexander Volkov vs. Marcin Tybura

This is a pretty straightforward fight for us. Alexander Volkov is the -330 favourite and justifiably so. The Russian has mixed it at a higher level and beaten people who are superior fighters to the +250 underdog Marcin Tybura. Volkov isn’t known as a big puncher but we wouldn’t be surprised to see him stop Tybura this weekend.

Khamzat Chimaev vs. Li Jingliang

This is a great piece of matchmaking by the UFC. Khamzat Chimaev has wanted to rush through the ranks, but Li Jingliang is the right opponent at the right time. Chimaev is a pretty big favourite at -450 and again, it’s probably not worth betting on that price. However, we expect him to be pushed in this fight by the +350 underdog, maybe even stretched for the full three rounds. Perhaps Chimaev by decision is the way to go if you want to bet on this one.

Magomed Ankalaev vs. Volkan Oezdemir

This one has got banger written all over it. Magomed Ankalaev is the new breed of light-heavyweight and highly fancied by the bookies at odds of -350 against Volkan Oezdemir who you can get at +275. This is undoubtedly the toughest test of Ankalaev’s career and we won’t be betting on him at those odds. However, Oezdemir hasn’t fought since suffering a brutal KO loss in June 2020. It’s hard to make a pick on this one so we might just sit back, relax and enjoy the carnage that these two will almost certainly bring at UFC 267.

Who will you be betting on at UFC 267?
