Jorge Masvidal Jake Paul Logan Paul

Jorge Masvidal isn’t one to avoid picking a fight, and he wants to make that perfectly clear to the controversial personalities Jake and Logan Paul in the event that he competes in boxing in the future.

Masvidal hasn’t fought since UFC 261, suffering a brutal knockout and second-straight loss to welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. He’s voiced his intentions to return to the UFC later this year, possibly against Nick Diaz depending on what happens at UFC 266.

Masvidal picked his teammate and friend, Tyron Woodley to knock out Jake in their recent boxing match in Cleveland, OH. But, Woodley fell short in his boxing debut and lost to Jake by split-decision in a back-and-forth war inside the ring.

Masvidal possesses some of the best technical boxing in all of MMA and wants to send a clear message to the Paul brothers that there are levels to the fight game.

“I’m gonna beat up all the Pauls,” Masvidal said during a recent interview with ESPN’s Marc Raimondi. “If they put money in my pocket, that Logan Paul dude, Jake Paul, whoever Paul dudes – if they put money in my pocket, of course, I’d like to break some Disney characters’ faces. I’ve been fighting men who have been training since 7, 8 years old to do the same thing to me what I want to do to them. Fighting guys like (the Pauls) is a bonus.”

“UFC would have to sign off, but nothing is impossible. Dana [White] doesn’t like those guys and he knows I’ll go in there and put a hurting on those kids. Maybe he does send in the fucking assassin.”

Masvidal is coming off of his debut as a promoter for his newly-founded bare-knuckle fighting promotion; Gamebred Fighting Championships. Masvidal has talked about a possible run in boxing in the past and has praised some of the best in the sport, including Manny Pacquiao.

Logan, the eldest Paul brother, is 0-1 in his boxing career after losing to fellow YouTuber KSI in his debut. Jake is an undefeated 4-0 with knockouts over former UFC welterweight Ben Askren and former NBA star Nate Robinson.

Masvidal and Jake, in particular, don’t sound like they’re on good terms after the two went back-and-forth in recent media appearances.

Do you think Jorge Masvidal could beat Jake and Logan Paul?

Sean O'Malley Paddy Pimblett

UFC bantamweight contender Sean O’Malley doesn’t put much stock in rising star Paddy Pimblett‘s recent comments that were specifically critical of his grappling prowess in his fights. O’Malley, known for his elite striking inside of the octagon, didn’t seem fazed after hearing about Pimblett’s recent trash talk.

O’Malley is coming off arguably two of the most impressive performances of his young UFC career, with a knockout over Thomas Almeida and the battering he put on Kris Moutinho at UFC 264 en route to a fifth-round TKO. He has quickly become one of the UFC’s brightest young stars stemming from his time on Dana White‘s Contender Series.

O’Malley recently got word of some harsh words that Pimblett had for him during a recent interview with MMA on Point and felt compelled to respond to the notion that his grappling isn’t exactly up to par.

Yeah, I didn’t know he was talking shit about me. That’s not very nice,” O’Malley said on his podcast. “Maybe he just knows that talk bad about me, it’s publicity. He said I had bad grappling. I wonder why people just assume I have bad grappling. So it’s just weird that some people just assume that because I’m a good striker I must be a bad grappler.”

O’Malley went on to acknowledge that he’s had brief spurts of grappling during his fights in the UFC. While he’s mostly known as a knockout artist and a striking specialist, he still trains jiu-jitsu during training in Arizona.

Pimblett is riding high after his incredible UFC debut, knocking out Luigi Vendramini at UFC Vegas 36 just minutes into the fight. Pimblett is the former Cage Warriors featherweight champion and arguably the biggest signing in the sport of MMA this year.

While there doesn’t appear to be serious bad blood between the two mega personalities, it appears that the two of them have different opinions about the grappling aspect of MMA, and more specifically regarding O’Malley’s skillset.

Do you think Sean O’Malley is as bad as Paddy Pimblett makes it out to be?

Legendary UFC fighter Georges St-Pierre was impressed by Anderson Silva‘s boxing ability he showed against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

Silva impressed everyone when he was able to beat the former champion Chavez easily in his first fight back to boxing in 16 years. ‘The Spider’ had gone through a rough stretch at the end of his UFC career, seeing him lose seven fights out of his last nine. Silva was dominant for so long and many consider him to be the greatest Middleweight of all time. St-Pierre, another fighter considered to be the greatest of all time, praised Silva for how well he fought against Chavez.

“Bro, it was one of his best performances in life — I would say among the rest of his elite performances that he did in MMA. To me, the way he beat César Chávez, it was incredible. And I was under the impression before the fight that César Chávez would dominate him because of his boxing experience. Man, he took everybody by surprise. It was very inspiring to him perform that way. It was very, very inspiring. And what a great ending for Anderson Silva right now. I hope if he comes back into these kinds of fights, it will be something worth it. Not only about money, but in terms of legacy — something that, it will make him shine, make him look good. Because, man, if you check his last (UFC) performance against Uriah Hall, it was kind of disappointing, it was kind of sad. But what a way to come back. What a way to get back on top. Man, that was amazing.” (h/t mmafighting)

St-Pierre and Silva’s mutual respect has gone back many years as they were both dominant during the same years in separate divisions. Silva will continue his boxing career against Tito Ortiz on September 11th. That being the same card event headlined by Vitor Belfort’s return to the boxing ring against Evander Holyfield (Oscar De La Hoya had to drop out due to COVID). It will be interesting seeing where Silva takes his boxing career after the Ortiz fight. There have been rumors of ‘The Spider’ fighting either Jake or Logan Paul in a boxing match.

Do you agree with Georges St-Pierre? Is Anderson Silva’s career resurgence inspiring?

B.J. Penn Lays Out His Legacy, Doesn’t Know If He Or Khabib Is The Lightweight GOAT

When discussing the potential greatest lightweight mixed martial artist of all time, two names appear to separate themselves from the chasing pack; the retired duo of Khabib ‘The Eagle’ Nurmagomedov and B.J. ‘The Prodigy’ Penn.

Recently, Khabib, who retired with three successful defences of the undisputed UFC lightweight title as well as an unbested 29-0 professional record, gave his thoughts on who he believes is the second greatest lightweight of all time, naming Hawaiian veteran, Penn

I think the impersonation of the lightweight division was B.J. Penn for a long time,” Khabib said. “I can explain. Despite of (sic) many defeats, he won the lightweight title, defended it and move up to the welterweights, and won the belt there. Then he had lost to one of the best fighters ever, Georges St-Pierre. B.J. Penn, I think we can put him out there.
Given the Dagestani’s undefeated career run as well as a trio of impressive submission stoppages over Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier, Justin Gaethje to close out his career and lodge three consecutive title defenses, Penn named the sambo specialist alongside fellow former UFC champion, Benson Henderson as he gave his talk on GOAT conversation at 155lbs.

I enjoy watching Khabib (Nurmagomedov) fight, I cannot see Khabib saying he is (the) number one lightweight of all time because that does not seem like his style,” Penn posted on Instagram. “I will give my opinion on what I thought of Khabib’s career. Me, Khabib and Benson (Henderson) all had three (successful) title defences (in the UFC). Me and Khabib had three finishes in the three title defenses. I did finish Joe Stevenson to win the UFC lightweight belt and Khabib won unanimous decision over (Al) Iaquinta to win the lightweight belt. That’s four finishes me and three finishes him in title fights. These are just numbers not important to fighting. I do feel that it is the champion’s duty to the sport and fellow fighters to make sure the next world champion is the greatest world champion to step into the ring. I do believe Khabib walked away too early in that respect.

Penn went on to explain that he’s not sure who is the greatest lightweight fighter of all time, but noted his moves and subsequent success at welterweight, middleweight, and at heavyweight.

There are fighters and sportsmen,” Penn posted. “All I ever wanted to do was fight everyone. I was 25 and in my fighting prime when I went up to 170lbs and won the (UFC) belt from Matt Hughes. I cannot blame Khabib for not going up and fighting (Kamaru) Usman for the belt and then sparking a greater conversation of who the best of the two fighters who won the 170 and 155(lbs) belt. The fighters today get fame and don’t want to lose. I will fight anytime until the day I die. I went to Japan and Hawaii and fought in K-1 and Rumble on the Rock at 170, 185, and heavyweight. After years of fighting top fighters and champions I went back to the UFC and took the lightweight belt and the rest is MMA history. I don’t know who is the GOAT lightweight, I was just here to fight.” (H/T MMA Mania)

Throughout his 13 fight run in the UFC, Khabib notably dispatched the likes of Gleison Tibau, Pat Healy, former lightweight champion, Rafael dos Anjos, Michael Johnson, Edson Barboza, Al Iaquinta, as well as the aforenoted trio of McGregor, Poirier, and Gaethje.

Former two-weight champion, Penn ended his UFC run with an unfortunate string of seven consecutive defeats, however, during the Hawaiian’s pomp, he bested the likes of Din Thomas, Caol Uno, Matt Serra, Takanori Gomi, Matt Hughes (x2), Duane Ludwig, Renzo Gracie, Jens Pulver, Joe Stevenson, Sean Sherk, Kenny Florian, and Diego Sanchez.

Michael Bisping Encourages Conor McGregor To Take ‘Tune-Up Fight’ With Nate Diaz Next

Expected to remain sidelined until this time next year, former UFC lightweight and featherweight kingpin, Conor McGregor has been encouraged by former middleweight titleholder, Michael Bisping to return to the Octagon opposite two-time opponent, Nate Diaz for their trilogy rubber match — before even entertaining a fourth showdown with Dustin Poirier.

McGregor, who headlined UFC 264 in July — suffered a first round doctor’s stoppage TKO loss against former interim lightweight gold holder, Poirier, having fractured his left tibia in the opening round against the Lafayette native.

In the time since, the Dubliner has suggested an immediate tetralogy against Poirier as well as a potential return to the welterweight limit for his next outing, however, the aforenoted UFC color commentator and Hall of Fame inductee, has suggested McGregor land on a trilogy pairing with Stockton native, Diaz.

Hopefully, we see that fight,” Bisping said, referring to McGregor vs. Diaz on his podcast, Believe You Me with co-host, comedian, Luis J. Gomez. “I’m not sure if he (McGregor) wants to come back, Conor I’m talking about, after what’s probably going to be about a year’s lay-off and fighting Dustin (Poirier) for the third time. You kind of want to get your whistle wet. Find your mojo, blow off that ring rust. Nate (Diaz) would be the guy.

Bisping has claimed that if McGregor defeats Diaz, who appears to be targeting a UFC 269 return against Vicente Luque in December, then a fourth pairing with Poirier could follow.

Then, if Conor beats Nate, then he fights Dustin (Poirier), because, you know, they are going to do a fourth fight. The fourth fight will be absolutely massive, but I think if I was Conor’s manager, if I was advising him, I would say, ‘take a tune-up fight’, you know what I mean?” (H/T Bloody Elbow)

Whilst McGregor and Diaz have traded barbs recently on their respective Twitter accounts, the latter is unlikely to sit and wait for the Dubliner’s return for his next Octagon bout — with a matchup opposite the aforenoted, Luque floated before the close of this year.

The pair are currently level at one win apiece from their pair of main event clashes at UFC 196 and UFC 202, with Diaz taking a submission win and McGregor a close majority decision rematch win, respectively.

The Triller Fight Club event featuring Vitor Belfort vs. Evander Holyfield and Anderson Silva vs. Tito Ortiz has been relocated.

Belfort was originally set to face Oscar De La Hoya in the main event of the evening and the card was set for Los Angeles until De La Hoya contracted COVID-19 and withdrew from the fight.

Holyfield quickly answered the call to step in on one weeks’ notice to face ‘The Phenom’. The 58-year-old has been preparing for a comeback fight for more than a year now. Holyfield has often been linked to a third fight with Mike Tyson, but a deal for the eagerly anticipated trilogy bout has proved tough to finalize.

The California State Athletic Commission refused to sanction a boxing match between Holyfield and Belfort, forcing Triller to find a new home for their September 11 event. On Sunday, Triller announced the card will now take place in Hollywood, Florida.

“EVANDER HOLYFIELD returns to the ring on September 11th, live from Florida to fight VITOR BELFORT. Buy PPV at http://trillerfightclub.com Fight Card: Evander Holyfield vs Vitor Belfort Tito Ortiz vs Anderson Silva David Haye vs Joe Fournier Andy Vences vs Jono Carroll”
