Former heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier is expecting super fight after super fight when the UFC resumes its schedule.
Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the UFC had to pause its events much like every other sports league in the world — though the Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Tony Ferguson fight still looks like it’s happening next month.
That means many fighters are in limbo when it comes to their next fight, including Cormier. “DC” was expected to challenge Stipe Miocic for the heavyweight title in a trilogy fight which was pegged for the summer. But now, there is uncertainty surrounding it.
Whenever things do eventually simmer down, however, Cormier believes the UFC will have no choice but to put out stacked cards to make up for their loss of revenue. And he is particularly looking forward to it:
“There’s nothing right now. We’re essentially in a holding pattern,” Cormier said on Michael Bisping’s podcast recently (via Sherdog). “The UFC is on pause. Not even the UFC, the whole world is on pause right now. All sports, everything that entertains. So it’s just a wait and see.
“But you know what you can look forward to as an athlete is knowing that when the UFC returns, you’re going to be a part of some massive fight cards. Because all these fights have to happen, and as long as the UFC is on pause, the UFC is not making any money. So when the UFC comes back, they have to make all that money that’s supposed to be made over the course of the year, so they’re going to put on massive fight cards every single week until the end of the year and I cannot wait to be a part of it.
“Super fight after super fight after super fight, super fight card after super fight card, super card, super card. It’s gonna be like the UFC back in the day when there was one every couple of months and you got massive cards every time.”
That would certainly make up for a couple of months without mixed martial arts action.

Conor McGregor continues to call for Ireland to follow all the measures necessary to combat the coronavirus.
McGregor only recently sent out a message urging everyone in Ireland to follow social distancing and remain in quarantine.
The former two-weight UFC champion did so again on Tuesday with a video message as he called for a full lockdown of the nation.
You can watch it below:
“… While we are currently debating a full lockdown, I feel that we must,” McGregor said. “Any time spent debating this is needless time from the clock. I know a good, tough fight when I see one and we have one on our hands now. I want to call on my people, the great people of Ireland — this fight needs us all. We are all in the red corner awaiting the bell. So let’s gather together and ring the bell ourselves including the people of the rest of the world. True lockdown must begin and it must begin now. A lockdown together, a lockdown united. We must close our airports, we must close all non-essential business, we must cut all non-essential travel.
“… We must prepare and deploy all our units to all and any known built-up areas across our country. President [Michael D.] Higgins you must give these great men and women the power to enforce this task if necessary. However, I know that when the true seriousness of this is understood as it is becoming now our great nation will oblige and impeccably do so. It is time for full lockdown and we are ready. Powers that be, I am calling to you all, the fate of our great Ireland depends on it. This is my proposal and I pray that we can make this happen.
“We need to take the same measures of some of the heavier affected countries and we must do it in quicker time. We have the advantage here in that we can see this coming. We can see this coming but if we do not act on our advantage, then we cannot expect different results. We are not adhering to social distancing, at least not to the extent to halt exponential growth. A lockdown would facilitate this. It will reduce transmissions, it will take the pressure off our frontline staff and will allow us to identify all of our cases. These methods are stringent but necessary and have worked in China and Hong Kong. Ireland, we have got this. Not only do we have the formula, we have it ahead of time. Let’s go Ireland, let’s go rest of the world. Lockdown united. Together we stand. God bless us all.”
Given how some are choosing to ignore the suggestions enforced, it’s certainly a good thing to have someone as influential as McGregor call for a lockdown.

after having the cast on her arm removed.
The 25-year-old hasn’t fought since beating Rachael Ostovich by submission in January 2019. A pre-existing arm injury was made worse during the fight and has kept her out ever since. Multiple comeback attempts have been made but VanZant has suffered setbacks with the injury which has resulted in extra surgeries.
‘PVZ’ was supposed to make her long-awaited comeback earlier this month at UFC Brasilia against Amanda Ribas. Unfortunately, she was forced out of the fight again due to the persistent arm injury. Announcing her withdrawal on social media, VanZant said.
“I am not going anywhere, I am only 25 years old and I am a gangster fighter. I will be making my UFC return in May. God just wanted me to have a little more patience. Send me some good vibes #fanzants I could use some love.”
Just a couple of weeks on from her supposed fight date, VanZant is now ready to get back at it again. Today she has had her cast removed and told her followers on social media she’s ready to fight as soon as possible.
“CAST IS OFF 100%!!!! LET’S FREAKING GO!!!! Training is in full effect (in my garage with my husband) lol First thing first, let’s heal the world, after that I’m coming to fight. ??”
The unranked flyweight fighter is entering the final fight of her UFC contract. After which she has expressed a desire to explore free-agency and could well join husband Austin Vanderford in signing with Bellator. However, amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, it remains unclear when VanZant or any other fighter will be able to get a fight date.
