Dana White has a location. He just needs to send it.

The UFC president has long maintained that the highly-anticipated Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Tony Ferguson fight scheduled for UFC 249 on April 18 would still go ahead despite the coronavirus pandemic.

And as of Monday, there is a location for the fight. However, White isn’t ready to reveal details just yet.

He did confirm, however, that it would take place behind closed doors with no fans in attendance:

“I do (know where it is),” White said in an Instagram Live session with Yahoo’s Kevin Iole (via MMA Junkie). “But I’m not ready to tell you yet. I know lots of things. … There’s not going to be any fans there. It’s going to be a closed event.”

With Nurmagomedov recently returning to Russia to complete his training camp, fans have speculated that the fight could take place there. The United Arab Emirates — as suggested by Nurmagomedov’s father Abdulmanap — is also an option.

While most combat sports fans will be happy that a dream fight between Nurmagomedov and Ferguson could finally happen next month, there will be natural criticism coming White’s way at trying to book the fight amid the current global situation.

But as far as the UFC head honcho is concerned, anyone involved at UFC 249 is doing so on their own volition. And health and safety is something the promotion had covered way before the coronavirus:

“Everybody who is going to be involved in this thing is going to be because they want to be, not because they have to be or they have to do anything,” White said. “Believe me: We didn’t just start thinking about safety when the coronavirus popped up. Health and safety, these are things that normal businesses that are out there right now don’t necessarily have to think about on a daily basis. Healthy and safety is something we’ve been doing long before the coronavirus and we’ll be doing it long after the coronavirus is gone. This is just normal (expletive) for us.”

UPDATE:

White confirmed to ESPN that it will be a full line-up of the UFC 249 card and that the event is 99.9 percent done.

Judging in mixed martial arts has been a huge topic this year as former referee ‘Big’ John McCarthy gave his thoughts on the matter.

UFC 247 last month was a prime example of controversial and poor judging while the UFC 248 headliner between Israel Adesanya and Yoel Romero earlier this month also stirred up plenty of debate when it came to scoring fights.

Although McCarthy acknowledges judging is not easy, especially when the crowd can so easily influence them, the now-Bellator commentator explained how effectiveness should be the main criterion when it comes to scoring a fight.

“The biggest thing we have to have is the judges understanding the criteria that is given to them and how to use it and then understanding in a fight what is effective,” McCarthy told MMA Junkie Radio. “It’s not what is flashy. It’s not the guy that’s moving forward. It is what is the most effective element in that round. Who’s the guy that created the most dangerous situations for their opponent?

“It doesn’t matter if he’s chasing him down. It matters if he is doing the most effective damage during that round. That’s what the judges are looking for.”

McCarthy then brought up the example of Adesanya vs. Romero which saw “The Last Stylebender” come out on top via unanimous decision.

The first round of that middleweight title fight notably saw minimal action with Adesanya advancing more and attempting more strikes. However, Romero landed a huge right hand that ultimately won him the first round on all three judges’ scorecards.

Although McCarthy personally would have scored that round a 10-10, he can see why the judges gave it to Romero:

“Personally, I knew at the end of that (first) round, I knew that every judge, my son was one of those judges, I knew everyone was going to go with Yoel Romero because he landed the one big right hand,” McCarthy said. “You saw Israel rubbing his left eye, blinking his left eye because a knuckle caught him or something, but it showed that that punch had an effect. That’s what I’m talking about: Who affected the other the most?

“I wanted to give it a 10-10 because neither, in my opinion, neither guy deserved to win that round. You didn’t do enough to win that round. You didn’t do enough for me to say you actually get an advantage over your opponent now, having one point higher on the scorecard, but I knew when the round was over, they’re all going to give it to Yoel, and I probably would have to because that’s what the criteria tells me.”

What do you make of McCarthy’s comments? And did you score the first round to Romero as well?

Expect more crazy finishes and exciting fights as welterweight Niko Price will remain with the UFC for the foreseeable future.

Price recently announced on Twitter that he had signed a new four-fight deal with the Las Vegas-based promotion:

“BREAKING NEWS!!! I forgot to mention I signed a new 4 fight contract ?? I’m so blessed and thankful for the @ufc ! I’ll be sure to keep it entertaining for you guys! #ufc #newcontract #LetsGo #glorytogod.”

Price signed with the UFC in 2016 and has gone 6-3-1 since. “Hybrid” solidified himself as one of the most exciting and unpredictable fighters in that run with all of his wins coming by way of knockout or submission.

Some of his most impressive victories have come off his back with hammerfists and up kicks, the latter of which came against James Vick late last year. The fights are exciting even when he’s not winning as all 10 UFC fights involving him have failed to go the distance as well.

Price was scheduled to face Muslim Salikhov next at UFC Portland on April 11. However, the event was indefinitely postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic. No new date has been announced as of yet.

Are you glad to see Price get a new UFC deal?

Women’s bantamweight contender Ketlen Vieira is in favor of canceling UFC 250.

UFC 250 is scheduled to take place May 9 in Sao Paulo, Brazil and will be headlined by a bantamweight title fight between Henry Cejudo and Jose Aldo.

However, there is uncertainty as to whether the card will take place given the coronavirus pandemic. Brazil has over 600 cases of the novel coronavirus with 22 out of 25 confirmed deaths coming from Sao Paulo, making it the most affected city in the nation.

Vieira — who is set to face Marion Reneau on the card — believes the event should be called off given the severity of the pandemic.

“I don’t think there will be an event in Sao Paulo, because deaths have been confirmed,” Vieira told Ag Fight (via Bloody Elbow). “We’re just waiting for the UFC to tell us something. Cancelling it would be the right thing for the UFC to do. In order to fight, I need to prepare. How can I fight if I can’t prepare? Especially in our sport, where there’s contact and I can’t touch anyone.

“There’s been no preparation because they cancelled everything. They thought it would be for the best if there were no training sessions. Nobody is training, we’re trapped home. I don’t go out for anything. I was only running and I don’t even know if I’ll be able to do that this week. We’re not allowed to go out.”

Although the UFC canceled three of its upcoming events, Dana White has planned for UFC 249 to take place outside the United States on April 18 despite growing safety concerns.

White will likely want UFC 250 to go ahead as well but for Vieira, health is paramount:

“I’m not afraid of the event getting cancelled,” she added. “I think my health and everyone else’s comes first in a situation like this. I have no problem with it being cancelled.”

What do you think of Vieira’s comments? Do you think UFC 250 will end up getting called off?
