Stephen Thompson thinks his path back to a title fight is easier now that Kamaru Usman is the UFC welterweight champion.
The reason for this is due to him losing twice to former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. Thompson dropped a unanimous decision to Darren Till in May 2018 in the main event of UFC Liverpool event. Before this controversial loss,
Thompson had suffered just one loss in his last ten fights as he suffered a majority-decision loss against Woodley at UFC 209 in March 2017. He also went to a draw with Woodley.
While speaking with the media to promote his upcoming fight former UFC Lightweight champion Anthony Pettis in the headliner of UFC on ESPN+ 6, Thompson made some interesting comments.
That was the fact that since his history with Woodley, a third shot at the title would’ve been tough to convince UFC brass to do. However, now with Usman as champion, it’s easier.
“With a new champion, with a new guy standing there with a belt around his waist, I think it does make it easier for me or a quicker path to that title fight again,” Thompson told MMAWeekly. “Now Usman is a different animal. He’s a grinder. He’s got cardio for days. He can fight five, five-minute rounds like it was nothing.Stephen Thompson UFC 217 Media Day
“He is another guy to prepare for but I do think it does make it a little bit easier for a guy like me who has fought for the title twice against the same guy and nobody really wanted to see that third fight again. Now there’s a new title holder, it would be easier for me to get that title shot I believe.”

Conor McGregor reveals the one condition that he would accept a co-headliner spot at a UFC pay-per-view event.
McGregor lost to UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in the headliner of UFC 229 from Las Vegas, Nevada. Following the fight, the former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion made it clear that he’s going to fight again. Since then, it has been delayed due to him being suspended by the NSAC.
He’s been linked to a showdown against former title contender Donald Cerrone for a showdown on July 6th as part of International Fight week in Las Vegas, Nevada at the T-Mobile Arena.
However, it appears that fight may take place at a later date. One reason this fight and McGregor’s return has been delayed is due to the UFC offering them the co-headliner spot.
While speaking with fans in Chicago over the weekend (video courtesy of Mike Pendleton and BJPenn.com), McGregor revealed that he would be fine with serving as the co-main event. The catch is the UFC must give him his rightful shares in the company.
“I’m ready to fight,” McGregor said (H/T to MMAFighting). “I’ve said that, no problem. If the UFC wants me to slide into that co-main event and help, what that is, me sliding into the co-main event, it’s boosting their brand over fighter rhetoric that they have. There’s no problem with that. But if they want me to push that – and I have no problem pushing that – give me my rightful shares in the UFC company. That’s all I ask. You can put me on the first fight of ESPN+, no problem. So let’s see how it goes.”

The official UFC 237 poster has been released by the Las Vegas-based promotion. And it’s a good one to end the year off right.
For years now, posters have been something that fight fans look forward to seeing. The reason for that is due to it being the first major promotional material sent out by the promotion.

A strawweight title bout between champion Rose Namajunas and challenger Jessica Andrade will headline this show.
The UFC 237 pay-per-view event is set to take place on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Arena da Baixada in Curitiba, Brazil. The main card will air on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET. The preliminary card will air on ESPN at 8 p.m. ET and the the UFC’s streaming service, Fight Pass.The promotion will be announcing more bouts in the coming weeks. Here’s the updated card:
