Anderson Silva criticizes former UFC welterweight and middleweight champion Georges St-Pierre in his latest rant about why they should fight. The future UFC Hall of Famer is slated to meet prospect Israel Adesanya in a middleweight contest at the upcoming UFC 234 event.

While doing a recent interview with the media, Silva made his feelings known about GSP and how a fight with Conor McGregor is more likely to happen.

“I believe Georges St-Pierre does not take the real challenge,” Silva said to MMAJunkie. “He just tries to do something easy for yourself, but this is Georges St-Pierre. He’s so smart. That’s the game, that’s the business. He’s a businessman.

For me, I prefer to take real challenge. Don’t put nothing in the mind of my fans, (saying) ‘maybe yes, maybe not.’ That’s why I accepted the fight with (Daniel) Cormier in two days (at UFC 200). That’s the difference it’s not about fighters it’s about martial arts. I like challenge and I try to do my best every time.”

The reason that Silva took this UFC 234 fight is all due to the hopes that he has for fighting for the UFC middleweight title again. The UFC and its President Dana White promised him just that. Despite his advancing age, Silva is keeping out hope that he can wear gold one more time.

“I believe in a perfect world, of course, Anderson Silva fights for the belt and takes the belt, then drop the mic. But I need to focus on this fight first. That’s the second step. Let’s go see, because the future is very short.”

The UFC 234 pay-per-view event is set to take place on Saturday, February 10, 2019 at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia.

Conor McGregor vows to stay motivated for his comeback to the UFC but is also planning to launch rockets in next year. The former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion has a way with words.

McGregor lost to UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in the headliner of UFC 229 from Las Vegas, Nevada. Following the fight, McGregor made it clear that he’s going to fight again.

The former champ recently took to his official Twitter account where he noted that he plans to launch rockets in 2019 while sharing photos of him training.

Waiting Game

McGregor is currently temporarily suspended by the NSAC and is awaiting to get his punishment for the UFC 229 brawl. UFC President Dana White has gone on record by stating that McGregor fighting Dustin Poirier would be a logical move.

Both Conor and Khabib have been granted a continuance in this Nevada commission case that stems from this latest incident. It’s expected to play out next month, which should be interesting. The belief is that McGregor won’t be given a suspension but rather a fine.

Things could be different for the UFC lightweight champion considering that he started and did most of the bad behavior it in. Thus, it could have an impact o the lightweight division.

The welterweight division has been a pleasure to watch this year. With intriguing matchups and contenders galore, 2019 should continue the trend.

Colby Covington has been front and center in the welterweight title picture this year. He captured the interim title at UFC 225 when he defeated Rafael dos Anjos. However, he was stripped of the title before he could defend it.

Another contender that emerged seemingly from nowhere this year is Ben Askren.

Askren was retired when he was traded from ONE Championship to the UFC for Demetrious Johnson earlier this year. Since officially joining the world leader in MMA, Askren has taken his unique brand of trash talking to the next level. Effectively picking fights with every fighter not named Tyron Woodley.

Still, Covington isn’t taking “Funky” Ben seriously. On a recent episode of the
Ariel Helwani MMA Show Covington explained how he thinks a fight with Askren is not very likely.

Colby’s Reasoning

“Ben Askren, the only thing we have in common…I have a real belt, he has some belts from back in the day that don’t even matter anymore. But let’s be honest, no commission would approve this fight. He is not even ranked in the top 100,” Covington said.

“It would be a slaughter and it wouldn’t be competitive. If that 36-year old virgin builds himself up and becomes a draw, then no problem. I will send him back to the back of the line just like everybody else,’ he concluded.

Askren is set to fight Robbie Lawler at UFC 235. Covington is in limbo as Kamru Usman recently showed off a signed contract to fight the champion. However, Woodley seems disintersted in the Usman fight.

As for Covington vs. Askren, well thats a grudge match that is at the top of my “yes please” wish list for 2019.

Top UFC featherweight Brian Ortega suffered a brutal beating at the hands of champ Max Holloway in the main event of December 8’s UFC 231 from Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

It was so one-sided that Ortega absorbed a UFC record 290 significant strikes from Holloway. Ortega was more than tough, answering the bell for each round. Yet when his eye swole shut due to endless punches from “Blessed,” it was finally called after the fourth round.

“T-City” agreed with the stoppage after the loss. He admitted he was willing to die in the Octagon in that. He did suffer a broken nose and thumb in the fight. It became hard to watch at times as the punches mounted.

But the popular contender is close to fully healed just over a week after his first-ever MMA loss. Ortega posted on Instagram (via ESPN’s Chamatkar Sandhu) a photo of himself nearly back to normal:

Indeed he is akin to the comic book superhero with the mutant healing factor. To absorb a record amount of significant strikes and look like you were hardly in a fight nine days later is unheard of.

He may have lost to rising pound-for-pound great Holloway, yet his toughness cannot be denied. Based on what we see here, Ortega will be back in action a lot sooner than later.
