Brock Lesnar appeared on ESPN’s SportsCenter on Tuesday night for Jonathan Coachman’s weekly segment focusing on WWE.

When asked about the most difficult accomplishment of his life, Lesnar says it was winning the NCAA championship. That one took a long time to train for, since he was wrestling from the age of 5. That said, none of his accolades have been easy.

Regarding Ronda Rousey’s admission that she was suicidal after getting knocked out by Holly Holm, Lesnar said he’s a big fan of Rousey but you have to learn that you must lose before you can win, you have to be able to get back on the horse. One fight isn’t going to make or break her career. They talked about Rousey possibly wrestling for WWE and Lesnar said she can do whatever she wants. Right now, Rousey has a lot on her plate with her MMA & movie careers. At some point, she’ll have to take a step back and decide what she really wants to do.

Alistair Overeem Talks Re-Signing With UFC, Says He’ll Be Champion This Year

overeem

Alistair Overeem revealed this week that he has signed a new contract with the UFC, and will be headlining their May 8th show in the Netherlands. On Monday, Overeem appeared on The MMA Hour to discuss his new deal, and his plans for the future. Overeem revealed that he had no plans on leaving the Zuffa-owned UFC.

“I didn’t talk to anybody else,” he said on The MMA Hour. “But I can tell you this, also — the UFC is where the best fighters are at, and I consider myself the best fighter. I belong in the UFC. That’s how simple it is. […] The UFC is the prime fight promotion in the world.”

“The UFC has been very cordial, very gentlemanly towards me, and I’m very happy. I’m very excited, and I feel very appreciated. These were all factors.”

Overeem predicts UFC gold in his future. He says he plans on getting a title shot after his May 8th fight, against a to-be-announced opponent.

“End of 2016, I will be champion,” he said. “That is how I envision it. May 8, whoever they put in front of me, I’m going to finish that person, and then it’s going to be a title shot. I don’t know when that’s going to happen, whether it’s going to be after the summer, could be the end of the year. I don’t know who’s going to have the title, Stipe or Werdum, both who are great fighters. Both are tough as nails. One is a little bit more attack — Stipe — and Werdum is a little bit more tricky.

“I feel like I can take them both on, and take them both out. So whoever is going to be put in front of me now for May, we’re going to go from there and by the end of the year title, either Werdum or Stipe.”

Inside the Octagon, Glaico Franca and James Vick are unbeaten, winning all five of their combined fights.

The lightweights will now square off this April at UFC 197, officials announced recently. The event includes UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier vs. Jon Jones and UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson vs. Henry Cejudo.

Franca (13-3) is 10-1 over his last 11 and on a three-fight win streak. That includes a rear-naked submission win over Fernando Bruno back at UFC 190 in his debut with the promotion. He has finished a dozen of his 13 career wins.

Vick (8-0) debuted with the UFC back in 2013 and scored a guillotine choke on Ramsey Nijem in just 58 seconds to make a splash. He has followed that up with wins over Valmir Lazaro, Nick Hein and Jake Matthews.

In 2012, Vick appeared on the first – and only – live season of The Ultimate Fighter. He won his first three fights, including a knockout of Daron Cruickshank, before falling to eventual winner Michael Chiesa in the semifinals.

The rest of the UFC 197 fight card includes Yair Rodriguez-Andre Fili, Robert Whittaker-Rafael Natal, Marcos Rogerio de Lima-Clint Hester and Jessica Aguilar-Juliana Lima.

Tonight at UFC 268, Rose Namajunas defends her strawweight championship agaisnt Zhang Weili. In this story from 2017, she went one on one with a much larger, more decorated opponent: Jon “Bones” Jones…well, sort of. The following story is presented to you in its original, unaltered form, courtesy of the MMA News Archives.

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has a huge match on the horizon, as he’ll take on Daniel Cormier in April.

However, another opponent stepped up to the challenge on Tuesday in the form of Rose Namajunas.

Yes, the one-time UFC strawweight contender rolled with “Bones” during a training session in New Mexico at Jackson-Wink MMA. And you better believe that Namajunas pulled no punches vs. the former No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter.

Namajunas is coming off a devastating victory over Paige VanZant and has now won two in a row since a loss to Carla Esparza back in 2014 for the inaugural 115-pound title. She is set for a rematch with Tecia Torres this April. Torres won the first meeting via decision three years ago.

She later added a video of the two rolling, with Jones flexing his might by picking up Namajunas.

Had fun getting my ass kicked today thanks everyone @jacksonwink_mma @jonnybones ??? #ufconfox
