While he was respectful in his public tweet regarding his recent UFC release, Robert Whiteford opened up while speaking with veteran MMA journalist Ariel Helwani on Monday’s edition of “The MMA Hour” at MMAFighting.com.

Whiteford wrote the following on social media shortly after his UFC release became public this past Saturday.

“Released [from the] UFC this morning. Truly grateful for the opportunities [and] memories. It was a blast.”

On Monday’s edition of “The MMA Hour,” Whiteford spoke at length about his UFC departure.

“Ah, sh*t happens, doesn’t it,” said Whiteford. “F*ck, what can you do? Life goes on.”

Whiteford continued, “Very surprised, but are you ever surprised with anything UFC does these days? Not really. But really, they do strange things, day in, day out, whether it’s for good or for bad. You take everything with a pinch of salt with the UFC. That’s the way I look at it.”

“I was away for the weekend with my girlfriend,” said Whiteford. “She booked it for my birthday. My manager phone called me on Saturday morning whilst I was away for the weekend. I couldn’t believe it. I felt like ringing his neck,” he admitted. “The main reason is I’ve lost two in a row. You can’t really argue with that,” he continued. “There’s a lot of people been cut for two in a row and there’s been people cut for less than two fights in a row. You can’t really grumble with it.”

When talking about his most recent performance inside the Octagon, Whiteford admitted he has had better days.

“My last fight was sh*t, top to bottom,” Whiteford said. “As I said before, some times it’s just not your night to fight. I made that walkout to the Octagon. My ‘Flower of Scotland’ traditional homecoming music, it cut short. I entered the Octagon. Bruce Buffer announced my name, it cut out short. Things just weren’t adding up. Some times it just doesn’t go your way. I got f–ked over by a judge who scored it 30-27 Martins. I don’t know what planet he was on. Maybe he was trying some of the Amsterdam local brew. But I believe that things happen for a reason in this world. When bad luck comes, it usually comes in threes. That judge was just my third bad luck on the night.”

Frankie Edgar Reacts To Jose Aldo’s Trash-Talk Ahead Of Their UFC 200 Showdown

As their interim featherweight title fight at the landmark UFC 200 event in July draws closer, Jose Aldo has surprised some in the MMA community with the way he has been talking about his opponent, Frankie Edgar.

Aldo out-pointed Edgar in their previous fight for the 145-pound title back in early 2013, and according to the Brazilian, Edgar has not evolved much in the three years that have passed since their initial meeting.

After hearing Aldo’s brash comments, Frankie Edgar spoke with MMAFighting.com and pointed out his belief that Aldo is doing what many in the UFC have been doing since seeing the success Conor McGregor has had, which is bringing trash-talk into the build-up of their fiights.

“You’re seeing it across the board in all weight classes,” Edgar said. “Guys are getting more vocal. They’re just seeing what it’s done for Conor, so they’re trying to kind of make their voice heard. I think that’s what Aldo is doing. Arguably, you could say I haven’t lost a round since me and Aldo fought. He’s just been in some either pretty boring (fights), or wars since our fight. So, I think I’m the one who looks like he’s evolved more than Aldo has. So yeah, I don’t know. I think he’s just talking the fight up.”

Edgar continued, “This guy is like I said. People are trying to talk. He’s just not that great at doing it, you know?” Edgar said.

“He’s just trying to create buzz, and I get what he’s trying to do, but we all know he doesn’t fight injured. The guy pulls out of fights every other fight, so he definitely doesn’t fight injured. So we can just throw that one away. And everybody talks about how our fight was close. He wants to sit there and have this false sense of security? Maybe that’s why he’s trying to talk like this, because he’s dealing with this knockout loss. But, by all means, go ahead and go in there super confident.”

Aldo-Edgar II is scheduled for the landmark UFC 200 event, which features Daniel Cormier vs. Jon Jones II for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship in the main event. UFC 200 is scheduled for Saturday, July 9, 2016 at the brand new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

BJ Penn Talks About Being Pulled From UFC 199, Hopes For Short USADA Suspension

UFC legend BJ Penn spoke with KHON2 News in Hawaii (see above) about being flagged by USADA for use of an IV ahead of his scheduled Octagon comeback bout against Cole Miller at UFC 199, a fight that was officially cancelled earlier this week.

“I wasn’t aware that I couldn’t take an IV 365 days a year,” said Penn. “I got an IV back in March and USADA came to do a test. We did the test and they asked me, when was the last time I got an IV. I told them ‘the week before’ and that’s it. We’re not being investigated for any banned substances or nothing like that. It’s just [that] I disclosed to USADA that I did an IV without getting permission from them first and they penalized me for it.”

As Penn explained, he doesn’t feel like this hiccup with USADA will put his UFC return on hold for too long.

“I don’t think it should be so long. I don’t think it should be too long because, I mean ignorance of the rule is no excuse but it has nothing to do with banned substances. We’re not doing anything with any performance enhancement. I think they’ve just gotta lay down the punishment for whatever they feel.”

Penn concluded, “It’s gotta just be a speed bump. I went way too far to say I’m exhausted at this point. Really it’s been amazing how my fights have just been getting pushed back but I guess this is just one more road bump. I’m the best I’ve ever been. I’m doing great in the gym. I feel awesome. I don’t think Greg Jackson would let me quit at this point.”
