:: Ok, this actually is TUF-related, and here’s what Igor Pokrajac thinks of Stephan Bonnar and training in Crotia (is it still “War Torn Croatia?”). [link]

:: Bellator moving on up? Coming soon: live airings on FX. [link]

:: UFC fighter Maiquel Falcao arrested on assault charges. [link]

:: This “Chronicles of Fedor” is even better than the Chronicles of Narnia. [link]

:: Great take on the economic effects of training for MMA. [link]

:: Oh crap, there’s a Strikeforce fight tonight? Forgot about that. Dan Henderson hasn’t. And he’s looking for a K.O. [link]

Speaking of Strikeforce, bet on Henderson (-260) here. And you’re liking Bonnar at -220 in the TUF finale as much as we are, place a bet here.

Tito Ortiz Says “It’s Awesome” Not Carrying PPV Card

Yes, if you’ve followed MMA for some time now, then we’re guessing the above headline may have evoked a general response with the words ‘since when?’ After all, Tito Ortiz has never exactly been one to shy away from the camera, microphone and or anything resembling a spotlight. Of course, that’s not to say the […]

Yes, if you’ve followed MMA for some time now, then we’re guessing the above headline may have evoked a general response with the words ‘since when?’ After all, Tito Ortiz has never exactly been one to shy away from the camera, microphone and or anything resembling a spotlight. Of course, that’s not to say the MMA world doesn’t owe a ton of debt to Ortiz, as like him or not, “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” was a driving force in making the sport what it is today.

Although Ortiz has struggled over the last few years with injuries and lacklustre performances, the UFC still promoted the former champ heavily, giving him main event tilts or coaching stints on TUF. So as we head into UFC 121 and Tito’s bout with Matt Hamill, it’s been kind of weird really, to see the light-heavyweight take somewhat of a back seat no? When asked at this week’s UFC 121 presser about not carrying a PPV card, Ortiz had this to say (thanks to MMA Bay for the footage):

“It takes a lot of pressure off; it’s awesome. I like to see Brock doing all the work, Cain doing all the work, but at the same time I still do the extra PR work the UFC lets me do. It’s Dana’s decision and at the end I’m thankful just to be on the card.”

Interesting. Really, aside from Tito’s recent remarks regarding deaf people (which soon required his apology), it’s been relatively quiet on the “Bad Boy” front. That may continue if he ends up losing to Hamill Saturday. To bet on the bout head here.

Randy Couture Still Unsure on MMA Future

Yesterday we passed along word from Dana White, who is apparently remaining firm, this time (nudge-nudge), on previous statements that the legend Chuck Liddell will not fight in the Octagon again. Of course, another of the sport’s biggest stars and pioneers, Mr. Randy Couture, is still going strong at 47, yet, nothing’s been lined up for […]

Yesterday we passed along word from Dana White, who is apparently remaining firm, this time (nudge-nudge), on previous statements that the legend Chuck Liddell will not fight in the Octagon again. Of course, another of the sport’s biggest stars and pioneers, Mr. Randy Couture, is still going strong at 47, yet, nothing’s been lined up for him  since he walked through James Toney (reading that still brings a Grinchish smile to hardcore MMA fans doesn’t it?).

As anyone blessed with electricity knows, Couture continues to land roles on the silver screen and recently added “The Expendables” to his Hollywood resume. More and more lately, it sounds like Couture is unsure of is what his future holds in fighting, and in a more recent report from Fighters Only Magazine, that apparently hasn’t changed.

“I don’t know what is gonna happen on the fight front. I have had my wars, done my thing. I’ve been having fun, I can still fight, but I am not sure I want to make another run at the title or anything like that.”

Couture also reportedly said that he’s been cast in the sequel of “The Expendables,” which begins shooting in March, and even added “I enjoy fighting, but it’s probably time to move on…” In a recent interview with MMA Weekly, “The Natural” stated he hasn’t been approached by the UFC for another fight, yet, while also adding that he’s never felt better as a fighter. Could it be that Couture’s days punching dudes in the face, for real-not acting, are done? Here’s hoping the answer’s no.

Dana White Still Saying No Way to Liddell / Ortiz 3

Over four months have gone by since Chuck Liddell was bombed out by Rich Franklin at UFC 115, and “The Iceman’s” retirement watch keeps on a rolling. Of course, it’s well documented that Dana White’s said the hall of famer’s days fighting in the Octagon are done, but that hasn’t resulted in Chuck making it official. But […]

But then again, we’ve been through this once before…

Chuck appeared in a recent episode of the current season of TUF, and once again spoke of his desire to throw down with Tito Ortiz for a third time, feeding the ongoing speculation that the former champ has no real desire to retire (yes, even though the episode was filmed weeks ago).  Now, while it’s completely understandable to say ‘what else is new’ right about it now, it does seem like this time Dana is sticking to his presidential guns. According to a report from MMA Weekly, here is some of what Mr. White had to say about this matter, while he was in England over the weekend.

“I don’t want Chuck to fight anymore,” White said. “Chuck’s one of my good friends, and I don’t want him to fight anymore.”… “Chuck’s been a warrior, he’s been a great champion, and a great friend and a great partner,” stated White. “I don’t want to see it anymore.”

Interesting; it is starting to seem like the Liddell era may soon be over officially, then again…we’ve been through this before. Of course Tito has his hands full this weekend with Matt Hamill, never mind a third fight with Chuck; to bet on the tilt head here.

Mike Pyle Says John Hathaway Never Had a Chance

While some fans on this side “of the pond” bemoaned last night’s UFC 120 card saying it was weak, for British fans, who, let’s not forget were the ones, you know, actually paying to attend the London event, it featured several of their beloved stars. Michael Bisping and Dan Hardy are already two of the country’s biggest names, love em or hate em, while  John Hathaway has been in hot pursuit (walking through Diego Sanchez certainly didn’t hurt).

Of course, while Bisping outscored Yoshihiro Akiyama for the UD win, the other two British studs didn’t fair too well. Hardy got KTFO by Carlos Condit, and Hathaway, well, the formerly undefeated welterweight ended up getting schooled by the veteran Mike Pyle big time. Hathaway was a heavy favorite to take out Pyle, and after hearing some of the Xtreme Couture fighter’s post fight comments, we’re thinking maybe that was bothering him just a wee little bit (comment via the official UFC site).

“Everything Hathaway’s good at I’m better and tonight I was able to prove that. I knew that coming into this fight my wrestling was better; I knew that my hands were better. I hurt him a few times in the fight; I had him hooked up in some things that nobody’s been hooked up in the UFC, beaten on in the UFC. From my shorts at the weigh-ins, to “Born in the USA” coming out, I just rubbed it in their face and on top of that I smashed their number one boy that they thought was unstoppable. He never had a chance tonight, not for one second.”

Wow. If you threw some money down on Pyle last night, enjoy.
