Budlight produced a commercial to hype up their sponsored event with the UFC in New Orleans called Battle on the Bayou. The event is expected to be headlined by Alan Belcher vs. Jason McDonald, but outside of a cage, most casual fans wouldn’t recognize those two guys, so Budlight decided to cast two of the most recognizable faces in the UFC.
Jones seems like a natural with acting and delivering scripted lines on camera, maybe because he’s a fake ass white boy, but that’s not our opinion, we just heard that from someone. White is good with his head movement and expressions. Check it out below.
UFC 130 delivered a few special moments, including a tremendous knock out (Superman Punch) of Stefan Struve by Travis Browne and a great Memorial Day Weekend Win for Brian Stann who KO’d Jorge Santiago in.
UFC 130 delivered a few special moments, including a tremendous knock out (Superman Punch) of Stefan Struve by Travis Browne and a great Memorial Day Weekend Win for Brian Stann who KO’d Jorge Santiago in the 2nd round. The fights also offered some interesting news bits… like that we should all take better notice of Rick Story as he earned a 6th win to his fight streak in the Welterweight division. And even though Frank Mir clearly dominated Roy Nelson in their 3 rounds, it was still Mir who suffered a broken jaw and was off to the hospital while Nelson joyfully blamed Dan Hardy for his poor “british wrestling” that may have lost him the fight. Lastly, we heard pending the outcome of his hand injury that Quinton “Rampage” Jackson will receive the title-shot against Jon Jones.
And with the fight card’s culmination we also see that despite any injuries and losses suffered, all the fighters still managed to get out to their after parties and have a good time.
While the debating and moaning is underway in regards to the fact that Georges St. Pierre once again fought to a victory, sans no stoppage, news is beginning to surface regarding the eye injury he incurred. While the debating and moaning is underway in regards to the fact that Georges St. Pierre once again fought to a victory, sans no stoppage, news is beginning to surface regarding the eye injury he incurred. While his trainer Greg Jackson has pointed to the injury as a reason that, you know, it’s kind of hard to stop one of the world’s best welterweights when you’re not seeing too well, there are still some who are likely questioning that excuse. Now Cage Potato has this clip up which clearly shows Jake Shields’ finger introducing itself to GSP’s eye socket, but yeah, there are still going to be some who just aren’t down with anything short of a KTFO finish.
The good news for GSP fans, and the UFC, is that it’s looking like the champion’s eye injury isn’t too serious. A couple of updates have appeared on St. Pierre’s Twitter account, where apparently the P4P contender has stated within the last 24 hours that he’s alright.
Hey guys just want to say that I am ok. I’ll need to see a doctor in the next days! Yesterday I was told it was not a retina problem
Hopefully this means that GSP won’t have too long of an extended layoff and he’ll have another bout lined up soon, although, decision after decision complaints or not, the fact remains he’s running out of dudes to fight. We touched on the possibility of Nick Diaz yesterday, but the UFC might also wait and see what goes down with Anderson Silva vs. Yushin Okami in August. Superfight NYE?
If you didn’t think last night’s UFC 129 card lived up to the hype, then perhaps it’s time to do some serious thinking as to why you watch MMA…Yes, GSP once again failed to finish an opponent, but it’s easy to criticize when there’s zero chance that Jake Shields will crawl through your TV and […]
If you didn’t think last night’s UFC 129 card lived up to the hype, then perhaps it’s time to do some serious thinking as to why you watch MMA…Yes, GSP once again failed to finish an opponent, but it’s easy to criticize when there’s zero chance that Jake Shields will crawl through your TV and choke you senseless. And if Lyoto Machida’s ‘holy effin hell’’ KO of Randy Couture didn’t blow your mind, not to mention several other ‘I’m still shuddering’ stoppages, then there’s no sense talking any further.
Now, regardless of the fact that St. Pierre obviously didn’t get the stoppage, he did defeat yet another top ranked fighter. So with Shields out of the way, and hopefully GSP won’t be out long with his eye injury, what the hell is next? Is the welterweight division finally cleaned out without a dust bunny in site? Well, now that Strikeforce is the property of Zuffa, UFC Prez Dana White has apparently conceded that a fight with a certain Mr. Nick Diaz, could be possible…(Thanks to MMA Weekly for the quotes).
“I imagine I could do whatever I wanted to do if I really wanted to, but we have a contract with Showtime and he’s a Showtime fighter. I don’t know we’re going to have to see how this whole thing works out. That’s an interesting fight,” White said about Diaz coming over to face St-Pierre…. “I can do what I want to do.”
Yup, that’s some sweet news, although there is all this business about Diaz doing some boxing on the side to make some extra scratch. Either way, the fact that GSP vs. Diaz is now a real possibility is pretty damn cool.
So far 2011 has continued to build on 2010 for MMA fans; there’s been a ton of great fights put together, the UFC finally introduced the bantamweight and featherweight divisions, and from a pure fan’s perspective, Zuffa’s acquisition of Strikeforce should produce even more great tilts. Yes, we’ve all been…gaining…(we’d use ‘winning’ if not for […]

Well, at this week’s pre UFC 129 festivities (another card that is cause for celebration), Dana White has apparently announced that five round, non-title fights are headed to the UFC. Yup, that’s right, and after you’re finished shouting ‘eff yeah’, finish it off with an ‘it’s about effin time.’ Apparently one of the deciding factors in this decision was the recent draw between BJ Penn and Jon Fitch, which if there ever was an example of the need for two more rounds, there it was. MMA Fighting quoted the boss man saying:
“I hate draws worse than anything,” White said…”You sit there and watch a game for hours and nobody wins?” he said. “I don’t get it. That’s one thing I hate about fights, too. Draws suck.”
Yes, yes they do. The story also states that the UFC had looked at making the upcoming Brock Lesnar, Junior Dos Santos a five rounder, but eventually decided against it, as both men had already begun their preparations. Too bad, but we appreciate the UFC acknowledging that the fight should have two extra frames, and even more importantly, taking action to remove another item from our bitch list.
Yesterday we discussed the fact that not only is the name Jake Shields still relatively new to a lot of ‘ultimate fighting’ fans, and thus, he’s not widely expected to dethrone Georges St. Pierre, many of the sport’s more ardent observers don’t expect the submission wiz to win either. Case in point? Just shift your eyeballs to the right of your screen right now and take a peek at the betting lines we have up…The mighty GSP is the favorite and then some.
So, who is picking Shields to win? Well, a certain ex-light-heavyweight champ named Chuck Liddell is just one example. Now, keep in mind that Liddell and Shields go way back and that the former Strikeforce champ used to train with “The Iceman,” so either bias is raising its ugly head here, Liddell is making an informed assessment, or, yeah, maybe it’s a bit of both ….Speaking to MMA Fighting, here’s what Liddell had to say about the upcoming UFC 129 main event.
“I’m siding with Jake,” Liddell said. “Jake’s going to have to take him down. I’m expecting him to be in great shape for the fight. He’ll be in great shape for GSP. But yeah, I expect him to take him down and finish him.”
Now if Chuck had predicted Shields to win via highlight reel head kick or something similar, it’s likely the word ‘biased’ would be getting muttered repeatedly right about now. Will Shields, in fact, be able to take down a dude who had few issues countering renowned wrestlers like Josh Koscheck and Jon Fitch? Guess we’ll find out Saturday.
To bet a little dough on this weekend’s action head here.
