When you look at Paige VanZant, “fighter” is not the first thing that comes to mind.

VanZant, who took time off to compete on “Dancing With The Stars” earlier this year, returns to the Octagon Saturday night vs. Bec Rawlings at UFC on FOX 21. The bout will be part of the FOX main card.

For the Team Alpha Male fighter, something about MMA and what it does to the human spirit is why she decided to forgo movie roles and other adventures and get back to the sport.

“I feel like I’m at home in the Octagon. I missed it a lot. I missed fighting and competing against someone. It’s really like nothing else,” she said during a recent appearance on UFC Tonight. “I want to say violence. Being in the gym. Fighters are just different. I fit in with fighters.”

The decision to appear on the reality series, which she finished second on, has helped VanZant reach a new group of MMA fans.

“The demographic of fans that I got. I have a lot of older fans and a lot more women who are fans now. My grandpa and all his friends,” she said. “That brought all those people over to the UFC and hopefully they’ll be watching this weekend.”

Former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis once sat atop the MMA world.

He was featured on a box of Wheaties and pushed as the “next big thing.”

Now, “Showtime” is competing at featherweight and will make his debut there this Saturday night at UFC on FOX 21 vs. Charles Oliveira.

For Pettis, the decision to switch weight classes has also come with other changes to his routine.

“I haven’t even watched tape on this guy,” he said, during an interview on UFC Tonight. “I didn’t want to concern myself with him. I did that for my last few fights and it made me second guess myself. Now I just concentrate on what I have to do. I actually watched my own fights to get ready.”

While still training with Duke Roufus, Pettis branched out once again for this fight and has been working with Greg Jackson. He trained with former rival Donald Cerrone before his recent loss to Edson Barboza, which marked his third straight decision setback.

“I still train with Duke Roufus. I’ve gone to Jackson’s for sparring and bodies, and Greg Jackson is a wizard for game plans,” he said. “I still have my daughter at home. But I only go to Jackson’s for a few weeks at a time. I get some different sparring partners and it clears my mind.”

Carlos Condit Believes Win Over Maia Makes Him No. 1 Contender

Carlos Condit has experienced the thrill of wearing UFC gold.

Condit, a former interim UFC welterweight champion, will meet Demian Maia Saturday night in the main event of UFC on FOX 21 from Vancouver.

For “The Natural Born Killer,” a win over the red-hot Maia should be enough to warrant his shot at the belt again. Condit lost a split decision to then-champion Robbie Lawler earlier this year.

“I felt like I deserved it after the Lawler fight,” said Condit, during an appearance on UFC Tonight. “To beat a guy who’s on a run like Maia has been on, would get me the shot.”

Condit admitted that retirement was discussed between himself, his family and his coaches, but ultimately, the passion to compete returned.

“I’ve been at this for a long time and I got to look at some other things I can do to make a living,” he said. “I can’t fight forever. But I still have a little bit of time left. I love what I do, so I decided to give it a little more time.”

Following a disappointing split decision loss to Robbie Lawler at UFC 195, Condit had briefly considered retirement. Now re-energised after nine months off, Condit’s hopes for another title run lay past a very dangerous fight.

‘Dangerous’ Demian Maia

Maia’s recent form at welterweight has been excellent. Recently submitting Matt Brown at UFC 198, the Brazilian is currently unbeaten in five. Losing his last fight and taking some time off has lead to many picking against Condit in Vancouver. ‘NBK’ recently promised blood and violence in his UFC return, but Maia is great at smothering exciting fighters.

Despite all these factors, here’s five reasons Carlos Condit will smash Demian Maia…

Paige VanZant-Bec Rawlings Is The “People’s Main Event” Saturday (Editorial)

Demian Maia-Carlos Condit could be a ridiculous five-round battle between two of the very best in the welterweight division.

And seeing how Anthony Pettis fares for the first time at featherweight is an exciting prospect.

But the fight that could generate the most feedback is the “People’s Main Event” between Paige VanZant and Bec Rawlings this Saturday night at UFC on FOX 21.

Needless to say, the females have made it a point to go above and beyond when it comes to exchanging inside the Octagon. Card after card, fight after fight, the “ladies” have really delivered some exceptional battles.

For VanZant, this marks her first appearance back fighting since competing on “Dancing with the Stars.” The 22-year-old Team Alpha Male prospect lost to Rose Namajunas last December in her first UFC main event, falling for the first time in four Octagon fights.

Still, many believe she is a future champion in this sport.

Rawlings is the “veteran” of this fight, as the 27-year-old has competed 11 times, including her last three with the UFC. That includes back-to-back wins over Seo Hee Ham and Lisa Ellis.

The Aussie has also shared the cage with the likes of former UFC champion Carla Esparza, Mizuki Inoue and Heather Jo Clark.

Will these two touch gloves to start? Doubtful, but they will most definitely exchange leather until one of them wilts or the final bell sounds.
