There’s a lot of negativity floating around the MMA landscape right now. Maybe it’s Nick Diaz getting busted for smoking pot, maybe it’s Carlos Condit’s very controversial actions that led him to beat Nick Diaz. Fighters are leaving their long-time managers and coaches as well.
Me, I’ve always been a positive person. So here’s a little positivity for you: I think the upcoming “UFC on Fuel TV” card is going to be a bona fide sleeper hit, both because it’s a smaller show on a smaller network and also because it features a wide range of excellent UFC talent.
Here’s five reasons why you shouldn’t sleep on UFC on FUEL TV 1:
Come next Wednesday, Diego Sanchez will be taking on “The Juggernaut” Jake Ellenberger in what is likely a No. 1 contender battle for the welterweight strap, which will be hosted by the UFC’s first endeavor on FUEL TV.Sanchez earned his top-spot in the…
Come next Wednesday, Diego Sanchez will be taking on “The Juggernaut” Jake Ellenberger in what is likely a No. 1 contender battle for the welterweight strap, which will be hosted by the UFC’s first endeavor on FUEL TV.
Sanchez earned his top-spot in the division with impressive decision victories over former contenders Paulo Thiago and Martin Kampmann.
The victory over the Dane was especially important, as both men garnered high praise for their all-out war, which had left Sanchez battered and visibly worse for the wear.
After three hard-fought rounds, Sanchez earned the contentious decision win, though many felt that Kampmann was robbed of the decision. Should Sanchez come out victorious, and Kampmann as well in his next tilt, how will a second bout between the two fan favorites pan out?

Next Wednesday, Jake Ellenberger will take his likely final step toward his shot at the welterweight title when he takes on perennial contender Diego Sanchez at UFC on FUEL TV 1.
The duo will meet in Ellenberger’s hometown of Omaha, Neb., at the Omaha Civic Auditorium before an adoring crowd that will likely be pro-“Juggernaut.”
The welterweight heavy-hitter is rife with talent and with a victory will prove that he has the right stuff to contend for the title in the near future.

UFC on Fuel TV features a welterweight clash between Jake Ellenberger and Diego Sanchez that is sure to entertain. The night will also feature a future force in the heavyweight division—Stipe Miocic.
Miocic, a Cleveland-based fighter of Croatian decent, has more in common with Mirko Cro Cop than similar shorts and Croatian heritage. Miocic is a fearsome striker.
Sporting a perfect 7-0 record in MMA, Miocic has compiled five wins by knockout on the regional circuit. Miocic is a finisher and has only been to the third round once, in his UFC debut victory over iron-chinned Joey Beltran.
A former Division I wrestler, Golden Gloves boxing champion and collegiate baseball player, Miocic represents the new breed of MMA fighter. An overall athlete who is well-rounded and can win a fight anywhere the fight takes place.
At 6’4″ and 236 pounds, Miocic strikes a resemblance to current heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos in terms of build and style. A similar career arc may not be out of the question either.
At UFC on Fuel, Miocic will attempt to keep his unbeaten record intact when he takes on fellow heavyweight prospect Philip De Fries. De Fries, an English fighter, will most definitely attempt to take the fight to the ground and put his excellent submission skills to use.
De Fries is also undefeated with a record of 8-0 with seven submission victories.
In a division largely devoid of many new talented prospects, the winner of the De Fries-Miocic fight should emerge as the brightest prospect in the division, and Miocic should come out victorious.
In a grappler-heavy division, Miocic’s take-down defense will need to be on full display. With a decisive victory over De Fries, Miocic will show that he is going to be a force in the UFC heavyweight division.

The first-ever UFC on FUEL fight card features a Diego Sanchez vs. Jake Ellenberger main event on Feb. 15 at the CenturyLink Center Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska.
Sanchez fought once in 2011, beating Martin Kampmann by unanimous decision at UFC on Versus 3. Meanwhile, Ellenberger is coming off a first-round TKO over Jake Shields last September at UFC Fight Night 25.

A battle between undefeated heavyweights Stipe Miocic and Philip De Fries has recently been booked for the UFC’s upcoming debut on FUELTV, which transpires February 15th at the CenturyLink and Cornmeal Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
After starting off his professional career with five straight (T)KO victories, all coming within the first two rounds, Croatian-born Stipe Miocic scored a second round leglock submission over Bobby Brents to earn himself a call from the UFC. In his debut, Miocic would handle tough veteran Joey Beltran with a deft combination of leg kicks and takedowns en route to a unanimous decision victory. Though his choice to sport the same checkerboard trunks as the legendary Mirko Cro Cop would earn him the ire of many keyboard warriors across the nation, a win over De Fries, specifically a head kick KO, would certainly give him some breathing room. De Fries, on the other hand, had finished all of his opponents (excluding a No Contest against Dave Wilson) via submission before making his UFC debut, where he scored his own unanimous decision win over Rob Broughton at UFC 138.

After original opponent Eric Koch was forced to withdraw from their bout citing an unknown injury, featherweight wrecking machine Dustin Poirier was in need of an opponent to continue the four fight win streak he had built up starting back at WEC 52, which had included brilliant wins over Pablo Garza and Josh Grispi. It has been reported that fellow UFC on FOX victor Ricardo Lamas has stepped up to the challenge and will meet Poirier at UFC 143, which goes down February 4th from the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas and features an interim welterweight championship bout between Nick Diaz and Carlos Condit.
Lamas has built up a two fight streak of his own in his time under the Zuffa banner, following up a head kick TKO over Matt Grice with the aforementioned UFC on FOX win over Cub Swanson via second round arm triangle.
