He danced.

He taunted.

He landed with pinpoint accuracy at will.

If it sounds like I’m describing Stockton bad boy Nate Diaz, think again.

In his bout against Jeremy Stephens at UFC on Fuel 3, Donald Cerrone looked an awful lot like the man who last defeated him, the aforementioned Mr. Nathan Diaz.

Cerrone bobbed, weaved, skipped and taunted en route to a dominating unanimous decision victory, and all things considered, this fight looked awfully similar for Cerrone, albeit for opposite reasons.

At UFC 141 in December, Nate Diaz did exactly the same to him, and the Stockon native broke “The Cowboy’s” heart, face and fighter of the year campaign in the process.

So what does this say?

It says, first and foremost, Cerrone bettered himself through the loss to Diaz, so kudos to him for that.

More importantly, though, Cerrone’s bout against Stephens proved just how good Diaz really is.

If we had any doubt about the legitimacy of Diaz’ upcoming title fight, that doubt is now gone.

Cerrone was dominant in all aspects of the game against Stephens, and for somebody who had never seen a fight before, “The Cowboy” looked like a world beater.

But that isn’t the case, as Diaz so effectively proved in their December 2011 matchup.

Diaz dismantled Cerrone like nobody had before him, landing pinpoint punches and bloodying the face and spirit of his foe.

An aggressive fighter by nature, Cerrone was unable to mount any sort of offense, as Diaz’ attack left him completely on his heels and overwhelmed.

Cerrone has great striking, great wrestling, great cardio and great jiu-jitsu.  There is not an area of the fight where you can always say, “Oh yeah, just get him there and he’ll struggle” because he’s that well rounded.

Diaz, however, made it look as though Cerrone was an amateur and had never fought before, a testament to just how good he really is.

If you need further proof of Nate Diaz’ legitimacy in the UFC lightweight division (and you shouldn’t after the Miller win, but I digress), look at how dominant Cerrone was tonight and remember how Diaz made him look like a child.

That is simply all you need to see.

UFC on Fuel cards don’t get as much attention as their pay-per-view or FOX brethren, but that doesn’t mean they don’t provide several hours worth of top-shelf entertainment.

Tuesday night’s card from Fairfax, VA was no different. From the opening-fight knockout by Tom Lawlor all the way to the action-packed main event with a breakout performance by “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung, the show delivered in spades.

If you missed it, well, that’s your fault. But let’s take a look at the biggest winners and losers from the show anyway.

UFC on Fuel Results: What We Learned from Dustin Poirier vs. Chan Sung Jung

A pivotal featherweight fight headlined the UFC’s third installment on Fuel TV. Fast-rising Dustin Poirier brought a five-fight winning streak into the cage to meet “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung. The winner is poised to make a run at the UFC featherweight belt, currently possessed by Jose Aldo.

Here’s what we learned from the bout.

What We’ll Remember about This Fight

The pace. The 145-pound fighters battled hard from the very start. Jung came out aggressive and pushed Poirier to his breaking point. It was the most complete performance of the Korean’s UFC career.

What We Learned about Poirier

He still has a lot to learn. At just 23 years old, the Louisiana native has a long career ahead of him, and this setback will help him grow as a fighter. With his winning streak a thing of the past, Poirier’s resiliency will be tested.

What We Learned about Jung

He’s a contender. By dispatching of Poirier, Jung proved that his destruction of Mark Hominick was not a fluke. The technical aspects of his game have come full circle and he’s much more than just a brawler. He showcased a varied attack that included takedowns, flying knees and numerous submission attempts. Jung now has taken home four “of the Night” bonuses in his last three appearances.

What’s Next for Poirier

Despite the loss, the youngster doesn’t dramatically drop down the ladder. A fight with Brazilian Diego Nunes would put one of the two back on track toward contention.

What’s Next for Jung

With his last three wins, and the improved technical aspect of his game, a title shot against the Jose Aldo vs. Erik Koch winner is the right move.

UFC on Fuel Results: What We Learned from Jorge Lopez vs Amir Sadollah

It wasn’t the stand-up war we expected, but Amir Sadollah and Jorge Lopez ended up giving the fans a close, grueling battle.

Lopez instigated the clinch almost immediately in all three rounds and worked to wear down Sadollah against the age, but Sadollah wasn’t going to make it easy on him.

Sadollah was able to land a few more shots and stop the ground game of Lopez for the majority of the bout to earn a very close decision win, but it was a much tougher fight than most people expected.

What we’ll remember about this fight:

Amir Sadollah may have stolen one.

This fight was ridiculously close headed to the judges, and it honestly could have gone either way.

In the end, Sadollah did just enough to earn the win and get back on track in the welterweight division.

What we learned about Jorge Lopez

Lopez isn’t a Wanderlei Silva clone.

Lopez was compared to his trainer a lot heading into this fight, but he was very patient on his feet and used his clinch game to try to wear down Sadollah, who has had problems with grapplers in the past.

Obviously Sadollah got the better of him this time, but Lopez showed up with a smart gameplan and executed it decently well.

What we learned about Amir Sadollah

Sadollah has been outmuscled by my opponents in the past, and it looks like he’s been working hard to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

Sadollah was constantly working to get off the cage and get into a dominant position, and when he was able to get some space his striking looked as good as ever.

What’s next for Lopez

Lopez is now 0-2 in an extremely deep welterweight division, but he obviously has the UFC’s faith since they gave him a co-main event spot in just his second fight in the Octagon.

A bout against Dan Stittgen, who lost his UFC debut earlier this year, would be a loser leaves the Octagon fight for both men.

What’s next for Sadollah

Sadollah needed this win to retain any sense of relevance in the welterweight division, and he barely pulled it off.

Sadollah is still an asset to the UFC, as both a fighter and a personality, so expect him to get another televised bout against another mid-tier fighter in his next one.

A fight between Sadollah and Yoshihiro Akiyama would be a really fun battle and would give both guys a decent name for their resume with a win.

UFC on Fuel Results: What We Learned from Jeff Hougland vs. Yves Jabouin

Jeff Hougland was pulled from a high-profile bout against top bantamweight Renan Barao to take this fight against Yves Jabouin, and he desperately needed to put on a good performance to prove he was worth the opportunities put in front of him.

Instead, it was Jabouin who looked like the man inching closer to a title shot, picking apart Hougland with an impressive striking attack and an improved ground game.

The win is the third straight for “The Tiger” and it now looks as though Jabouin is slowly working towards a title shot.

What we’ll remember about this fight

The spinning back kick of Yves Jabouin is a terrifying technique.

Hougland was never completely in the fight, and a lot of that was due to the body shots landed by his opponent, as Jabouin was able to keep him on the outside and pick him apart on the feet.

Overall, this was a very impressive win for Jabouin.

What we learned about Jeff Hougland

Joe Silva may have thought otherwise, but Jeff Hougland is nowhere near ready to fight the best in the bantamweight division.

Hougland was completely outclassed on the feet by Jabouin, and he will need to make some major adjustments before he steps into the cage against the top tier of 135 lb fighters.

What we learned about Yves Jabouin

Yves Jabouin is ready to make some noise in the bantamweight division.

After two close decision wins in his last two bouts, Jabouin made sure there was no question that he deserved the win tonight, as he dominated Hougland from bell to bell.

The bantamweight division doesn’t have a ton of top contenders, so expect Jabouin to get a decent opponent in his next fight.

What’s next for Hougland

Hougland will need to bounce back after this one, and a fight against highly-touted prospect Nick Denis would be perfect.

What’s next for Jabouin

Jabouin was originally set to fight Mike Easton on this card, and that matchup has fight of the night written all over it. Let’s reschedule that one.

It was do or die for two UFC middleweight fan favorites, and Tom Lawlor made sure he kept his job with a quick knockout win over Jason MacDonald.

Lawlor landed a nice left hand that put MacDonald in trouble and the follow up right sent “The Athlete” crashing down to the canvas.

The win may have saved Lawlor’s UFC career, while MacDonald is likely done with MMA after his second consecutive loss.

What we’ll remember about this fight:

There’s not much to remember other than Lawlor’s knockout.

“Filthy” isn’t known for his hands, but it was a smart move to avoid the ground game that MacDonald possesses, and he did exactly what he needed to do to earn the victory.

What we learned about Tom Lawlor

Lawlor has some power.

The knockout was the first of Lawlor’s UFC career. He got it at a crucial time and will have a lot of momentum to build off of for his next bout.

What we learned about Jason MacDonald

MacDonald has always been a threat on the ground, but his stand-up has killed his development as a fighter.

The gameplan had to be to get Lawlor to the mat and finish him there, but Lawlor got his punches off too quickly and MacDonald had no chance to work his game.

What’s next for Lawlor

Lawlor is still a long ways from middleweight title contention, so he’ll be fighting some middle of the pack fighters for his next few bouts.

Dongi Yang lost earlier tonight, and he’d make a good opponent for Lawlor in his next fight.

What’s next for MacDonald

Retirement. MacDonald has been on his way out for a while now, and he has had a career that he can be proud of.

Hopefully he walks away with his head held high and doesn’t subject himself to any more punishment.
