UFC Fight Night

In tonight’s UFC main event Jessica Eye faces off against Cynthia Calvillo. Eye is hoping to make it two wins in a row since her devastating KO loss to Valentina Shevchenko. Calvillo will be making her flyweight debut after moving up from strawweight. Who’ll win? Let’s see what the LowKickMMA staff think…

Jordan Ellis: I have to give the edge to Jessica Eye in this fight. On paper, it seems pretty even in terms of skill but Eye is much bigger than her opponent. The former flyweight title challenger seems destined for a step up in weight after back-to-back weight misses, whereas Cynthia Calvillo is making her flyweight debut after stepping up. She will be the smaller fighter tonight and may struggle to impose her will on Eye who should dictate the fight.

Prediction: Jessica Eye

Abhinav Kini: I’m going to have to give the edge to Cynthia Calvillo on this one. While this could easily end up going the distance and resulting in a split or close decision verdict with either fighter winning, I just think Calvillo is the better overall martial artist who may even pull off a submission win. Jessica Eye also missed weight and while that can be an advantage for most, I think she also did more harm to her body given how she looked at the weigh-ins.

Prediction: Cynthia Calvillo

Ryan Galloway: In the main event of this weekend’s card, we will see the Cynthia Calvillo move up in weight to take on former title challenger Jessica Eye. This is a pretty simple matchup in my opinion. For Calvillo to get the win she is going to need to get it to the ground and find a submission. On the feet I believe Eye is the better striker and she is also the bigger girl. Her reach is going to allow her to keep distance and control the fight. I’m taking Eye to get the win by decision.

Prediction: Jessica Eye

Ryan Maccarthy: I have Cynthia Cavillo taking this by decision. I think she uses her wrestling background to her advantage to neutralize Eye. The pressure will be too much.

Prediction: Cynthia Calvillo

UFC 250

In the UFC 250 main event dual weight champion, Amanda Nunes defends her featherweight title against number one contender Felicia Spencer. Ahead of the fight check out the LowKickMMA staff predictions and let us know what you think.

Jordan Ellis: I’m picking Amanda Nunes to win this fight but how it actually plays out is down to Felicia Spencer. If the Canadian is good enough she will hang with Nunes for five rounds and make it an interesting fight but still ultimately lose the decision. If this moment has come a little too early for her, Nunes will show no mercy and get the stoppage in quick and impressive fashion.

Prediction: Amanda Nunes

Abhinav Kini: Felicia Spencer has a very tough task ahead of her, even with Amanda Nunes having an underwhelming last title defense. Spencer has shown to be durable and I can see her having some moments of success but ultimately this will be another title defense in my eyes thanks to the striking and all-round game of Nunes. “Lioness” by decision.

Prediction: Amanda Nunes

Ryan Galloway: I think Nunes is too much for Spencer and this will show on the night. For Spencer to win she only has one way of doing it and that’s getting the fight to the ground. Because of this, I think Nunes will be extremely prepared and dictate where the fight takes place. My prediction is she will find a finish on the feet in the first few rounds.

Prediction: Amanda Nunes

Ryan Maccarthy: Nunes is the best female fighter in MMA history. She’s the UFC champion at bantamweight and featherweight, and she has beaten everyone else who has ever held those titles. She’s the heavy favorite and rightfully so. Spencer is unproven having less than 10 fights in her career, but gave Cris Cyborg a tough fight. I don’t see this being like that however. Amanda Nunes by 2nd round KO.

Prediction: Amanda Nunes

UFC Fight Night

In the UFC on ESPN 9 main event, former welterweight champion Tyron Woodley returns to the cage for the first time since losing the title to Kamaru Usman. He’ll face off again Brazilian submission specialist Gilbert Burns in tonight’s main event. ‘Durinho’ is looking to build momentum for a title run after stopping Demian Maia at UFC Brasilia last time out.

LowKickMMA’s staff predictions: Woodley vs. Burns

Jordan Ellis: I think we will see Tyron Woodley get back to winning ways in this one. In my opinion, he’s fought and beat better fighters than Gilbert Burns. Woodley will at some point crack his opponent with a power shot and end the fight. If he doesn’t though it could be a long night if Burns is smart and using his wrestling and submission skills to grind out the win.

Prediction: Tyron Woodley

Abhinav Kini: This is a hard one. Gilbert Burns has been on a tear and should be very confident. Tyron Woodley, meanwhile, is the more complete fighter for me but hasn’t competed since March last year and is 38 now. I give the edge to Burns getting it done over five rounds.

Prediction: Gilbert Burns

Ryan Galloway: I see Woodley getting the finish early. While his last performance was lacklustre at best I believe Woodley still possesses the ability to beat the best guys on any given day. If Woodley can keep off the fence and negate the wrestling Burns is going to try and implement he should be able to find a home for that right hook on the feet. My final prediction is Woodley by TKO/KO inside the first 3 rounds.

Prediction: Tyron Woodley

Ryan Maccarthy: We haven’t seen the great Tyron Woodley in over a year so it’s going to be hard to tell what to expect. I believe he is the superior fighter here, although if Gilbert Burns can get him on the ground he could finish just about anyone in the world. Woodley’s power and speed, and high-level wrestling are going to come into play here. I see Woodley coming out on top via 3rd round TKO.

Prediction: Tyron Woodley

Overeem Harris

In the UFC on ESPN 8 main event, two top tier heavyweights will throw down inside the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.

Former UFC title challenger Alistair Overeem will be hoping to back from his fifth-round knockout loss against Jairzinho Rozenstruik last time out. He’ll face Walt Harris who returns to fight for the first time since tragically losing his stepdaughter late last year. ‘The Big Ticket’ is currently riding a two-fight win streak into the bout but hasn’t actually suffered a legitimate loss since falling short against Fabricio Werdum in October 2017.

Alistair Overeem vs. Walt Harris – LowKickMMA Staff Predictions

Jordan Ellis: I’m picking Walt Harris in this one. I’m impressed by his recent form and if he can land big early I think he’ll get the job done. However, if he is not able to close the show quickly I begin leaning towards Alistair Overeem who has all the tools to make this a difficult night for ‘The Big Ticket’.

Prediction: Walt Harris

Abhinav Kini: As much as it would be fitting and inspirational for Walt Harris to get the win, I just see Alistair Overeem being the superior fighter in just about every regard. There’s always the possibility of his chin getting cracked, but I see more chances in him getting the win via unanimous decision.

Prediction: Alistair Overeem

Ryan Galloway: I believe this is going to be a similar match up to the bout between Overeem and Rozenstruik and so Walt Harris is going to have to find that big knockout punch to close the show and get the victory. While it could happen I believe taking from Overeems last few performances he will be able to weather the storm early and get a decision win or late stoppage.

Prediction: Alistair Overeem

Who do you think will win when Alistair Overeem and Walt Harris square off later tonight?

UFC Fight Night

Light-heavyweight contenders Anthony Smith and Glover Teixeira will meet in the main event at the UFC Fight Night in Jacksonville, Florida tonight.

Smith is coming off the biggest win of his career over former title challenger Alexander Gustafsson. He’ll be hoping to claim another high-profile win against Teixeira and catapult himself towards another shot at long-time 205lb champion Jon Jones. Teixeira will be hoping to do the same for himself. The Brazilian is full of confidence heading into this one as he currently rides a 3-fight win steak.

UFC Fight Night Smith vs Teixeira – LowKickMMA Staff Picks

Jordan Ellis: Anthony Smith is on the verge of big things in the UFC and I just don’t see Glover Teixeira as the man to stop him from pushing on towards a second UFC title shot. I expect ‘Lionheart’ to be dominant in this fight and ultimately get the finish down the stretch. Teixeira’s best years are behind him and for me, this would be a monumental upset if he managed to claim a win.

Prediction: Anthony Smith

Abhinav Kini: Glover Teixeira has done well to be on a three-fight winning streak at 40. However, I just feel Anthony Smith will be too much for him to handle at this point, especially with the former coming off a huge win over Alexander Gustafsson. I see Smith getting the finish by knockout within 2-3 rounds

Prediction: Anthony Smith

Ryan Galloway: In the main event of UFC Jacksonville Anthony Smith will take on Glover Teixeira. In this matchup I think it’s hard to pick against Smith, his performance against Gustafsson showcased his ability both on the feet and during the grappling exchanges. I think Teixeira is getting up there in age and probably towards the end of his career, I just don’t see him being able to close the show the same way Smith is capable of so I predict Smith to find a stoppage probably around the third round.

Prediction: Anthony Smith
