Jon Jones TKOs Stipe Miocic with Brutal Spinning Back Kick, Leaves Door Open for Aspinall Fight - UFC 309 Highlights

Jon Jones got the job done in convincing fashion at UFC 309 on Saturday night.

Returning to the Octagon for the first time since his title-winning performance against Ciryl Gane almost two years ago, ‘Bones’ looked as good as ever against the former two-time heavyweight titleholder Stipe Miocic.

From the get-go, Jones was in complete control of the bout, peppering Miocic with a series of kicks to the body and the lead leg. Jones nearly finished things in the opening round after securing a takedown and lighting up Miocic with a barrage of elbow strikes near the fence. Miocic did a good job of defending, but surviving the round was the best he could do from his back.

The second round wasn’t much more competitive than the first, but things came to a head in the third when Jones unleashed a nasty spinning back kick with less than a minute to go in the round. The kick immediately folded Miocic up against the fence and ‘Bones’ finished things with a few ground-and-pound strikes that forced referee Herb Dean to step in and call for the stoppage.

Official ResultJon Jones def. Stipe Miocic via TKO (spinning back kick to ground-and-pound) at 4:29 of Round 3.

Eduarda Moura Snaps Veronica Hardy's Four-Fight Win Streak, Earns Unanimous Decision Victory - UFC 309 Highlights

Eduarda Moura snapped Veronica Hardy’s four-fight win streak and moved herself to 11-1 with an impressive three-round showing to kick off UFC 309 in NYC.

Moura stuck Hardy with a big right hand early on, that immediately put the Venezuelan on her backfoot. Hardy struggled to close the distance but managed to land a nice body kick at the end of a combination. However, Moura quickly made her pay for it with another booming right hand that popped Hardy’s back.

In the final seconds of the first, Hardy attempted to close the distance and connect with another body kick, but Moura quickly responded with a takedown that put a pretty big stamp on the first five minutes.

In the opening seconds of the second stanza, Hardy landed a nice left hand — her best of the fight up to that point — but Moura quickly shut things down with another successful takedown attempt.

Hardy attempted to fight her way back up for a majority of the round but ultimately acquiesced to the position and rode out the clock.

Eduarda Moura

Likely down 2-0 going into the third, Hardy came out aggressive, but Moura once again caught her with a right-hand coming in. That prompted Hardy to start throwing kicks from the outside — including a punishing lead leg attack with a minute to go.

Hardy wasn’t able to muster much offense beyond that, bringing an end to their three-round affair with little fanfare.

Eduarda Moura

Official Result: Eduarda Moura def. Veronica Hardy via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)

Brandon Moreno vs. Amir Albazi - UFC Edmonton Highlights

Brandon Moreno delivered a masterful performance in his return to the Octagon at UFC Edmonton.

After suffering a couple of split decision losses in his last two outings, ‘The Assassin Baby’ returned to the win column in a most impressive fashion on Saturday night, busting up fellow top-five ranked contender Amir Albazi in the evening’s main event.

Brandon Moreno

Throughout the 25-minute affair, Moreno utilized his jab and calf kicks to kick Albazi at bay and wobbled the Iraqi standout with a slew of stinging overhand rights. In the third round, Moreno landed a head kick that had Albazi wobbled, but Moreno exercised caution and stopped himself from rushing in for a quick finish.

That allowed Albazi time to recover, but he was never able to match the speed or the output of the former flyweight world champion.

Brandon Moreno

With 30 seconds to go, Moreno pulled a move out of Max Holloway’s bag of tricks and pointed to the mat, challenging Albazi to stand in the center of the Octagon and trade with him. For the most part, Albazi obliged but was forced to back away when Moreno busted out the rolling thunder with only seconds left on the clock.

Brandon Moreno

Official Result: Brandon Moreno def. Amir Albazi via unanimous decision (49-46, 50-45, 50-45)

Caio Machado vs. Brendson Ribeiro - UFC Edmonton Highlights

Brendson Ribeiro edged Caio Machado in a three-round lightweight war at UFC Edmonton on Saturday night.

It was a battle for position in the early going with Ribeiro taking the center of the Octagon and leading the dance, but hesitant to let his hands go. Machado did an excellent job of keeping Ribeiro at bay with a variety of kicks to the head and body, but Ribeiro landed a clean right hand near the four-minute mark of the round that prompted Machado to retreat.

Caio Machado vs. Brendson Ribeiro - UFC Edmonton Highlights

It was without a doubt the best strike of the fight up to that point, but unlikely to steal the round as Machado was busier throughout the first five minutes.

Machado kickstarted the second with a stiff kick to the body and looked to get his hands going early. Unable to chase down his opponent halfway through the round, Ribeiro appeared to lose his patience and swung for the fences with a big overhand right that missed the mark. Machado made him pay for it with a solid straight left that landed clean.

Things got a little wild in the closing seconds of the round, but both fighters hit nothing but air as they briefly threw caution to the wind.

Desperate to land a knockout shot in the third, Ribeiro swung for the fences with a slew of overhand rights and finally connected with one as we approached 90 seconds left in the fight. Machado fired back with a shot of his own that briefly took Ribeiro off his feet, and the final round came to an end with both fighters looking to leave a lasting impression on the judges.
